Whether you are just super busy or just a chronic procrastinator, I know there will be lots of you out there who will be shopping for gifts at the last minute. No matter the reason you are still in need of gifts, I am here to help.
I have been working on an Amazon Idea List just for you last minute shoppers. So make sure to check out my Last Minute Christmas Gifts list. In addition to my list, take a look at the Last Minute Deals page, while you are on Amazon.
Zulily has a Holiday Shop posted, where many items can ship out fast. Those items guaranteed to arrive for Christmas will be marked with a little package symbol.
If you are specifically looking for plus size clothing, then take a look at Simply Be. They now offer two to three day tracked shipping when you upgrade to Express Shipping. And its free when you spend over $100. Most people should be able to order up to the 20th and receive their packages on time for Christmas.
Hautelook offered the following graphic for their cut off dates to get items for Christmas. The picture is clickable if you want to find out what is available on Hautelook.
You can get your Walgreen’s orders shipped to you in time for Christmas if you order by 3 p.m. on December 21st. They have a Holiday Shop page set up to make your Christmas shopping easy. And for you super late shoppers there is same day pick up on all photo gifts. How great of a gift would a mug or a puzzle with a family photo be? And if that isn’t your thing, you can always check where the item you are looking for is available in your town. Every item has a button that says find in store. Simply click that and it will tell you all the stores closest to you that stock the item you are looking for. No more driving all over town searching for it.
Tell me in the comments where your favorite place to do last minute shopping is.
This month is moving along so fast, I can’t believe it is almost over. Week three of All Dress April is already completed, and we have just a week and a half left.
If you missed previous weeks, don’t forget to check out week one and week two before you leave.
This week is unfortunately a little light on the outfits, as you may already know I missed a couple of days due to life circumstances. And I am unfortunately out of any backup photos.
This is the Cold Shoulder Jersey Maxi Dress from Torrid. I am wearing it in gray, which I got last year. They no longer have this color, but I have linked to it in the black color they have this year. I also saw it in olive green earlier this, and was a little sad that I missed out. I keep hoping that Torrid will bring that one back.
My jewelry is from Earth Bound Trading Company, and the shoes are from Skechers.
I missed this day due to illness
For day 17 I had on this Luna Lace Dress from Kiyonna. I don’t know why, maybe its the simple elegance of this dress, but I always feel the need to put my hair in some sort of updo when I wear it.
Day 18 had me wearing a dress from ASOS Curve, and I think this is my favorite out of the newer dresses that I have purchased. This is the ASOS DESIGN Curve Bardot midi dress in floral print. They call it a midi, but to me it is a little long to consider a midi, I think of it as a maxi. I ordered this dress at the beginning of April, and at that time they had this dress in every size. However, as I am writing this, they seem to only have a couple of sizes left.
I have it paired with some green peep toe wedge heels that I got on Zulily several years ago.
I have it paired with a pair of rounded toe heels from Steve Madden. I have actually had these heels almost 20 years. I keep hoping they will come back because they are amazingly comfortable.
On day 20 I wore this Simply Be Lace Dress With Tipping. If you are following along on any of my social media, then you know this was not my favorite dress on me. I love the dress itself, but think it would look better on a different body type. I want to be clear though, this isn’t me saying there is anything wrong with the dress or my body. Don’t be surprised if there ends up being a blog post on this topic soon.
On day 21 I missed again. I was off gallivanting around a college campus with my niece all day on her first college tour. Too much fast paced walking and climbing stairs for me to comfortably wear a dress. I had plans on wearing one when I got home, but the day went on for a longer than expected and I went to bed immediately.
That wraps up week three. Tell me in the comments what your favorite dress from this week was.
Week one of All Dress April has finally come to an end, so it must be time for a recap. These always seem to be some of my most popular posts, so I decided to make a couple of changes this year. Changes that I hope are for the better.
You all know that I live with a few chronic pain conditions, some of which are affected by the weather, especially in the winter and early spring. So in previous years this has left me not posting about one to two days a week. In an effort to not leave these spots open, and to be able to share more items with you, I will be sharing photos previously taken but not posted for one reason or another.
This is a Tiana B. dress in a mod 60’s style print. I really love this style, and this dress is so comfy and great for minimal effort days. I paired it with a pair of wide calf boot’s I got from Zulily’s Journey Collection. I have had both of these pieces for quite some time, so I don’t think either of these items are still currently available, but you can get the same style of dress from Tiana B. as well as dresses in similar prints.
This was a bad pain day for me, and so this was the first case of using a previously taken photo.
This dress is from the Avenue. It is their Metallic Floral Scuba Dress. It is a recent purchase, but unfortunately it sold out fast. I guess everyone loved it. It is definitely in a bodycon/wiggle style, but like most of the dresses from Avenue it is made to be more forgiving of any extra curves and rolls you may have in the middle. While they no longer have this exact dress, they do still have a similar dress. It is their Scroll Flocked Scuba Dress (limited sizes left in this dress).
The shoes I have paired with it are the Bandolino Women’s Mylah Peep-Toe Pump. These were actually the shoes I wore for my wedding, and I was kind of surprised to even find limited sizes of these still hanging around.
For day five I went with something more to the roots of All Dress April, meaning something vintage style. This dress is from Lindy Bop. It is their Alanis Swing Dress in Black Polka Dots. (Just a note the link is to the UK site, but you change it to your country of preference. If you are in the USA, you can order from the US site or the UK site. I prefer the UK site because the sizing is easier. Don’t forget to change the currency as well.)
I have it paired with a basic black crinoline. and pair of kitten heels I bought on eBay a long time ago. The shoes are no longer available in the kitten heel size, but you can steel find the pump version from many different sellers on eBay still.
This is the Truda Dress from IGIGI. It is a faux wrap dress. It is no longer available in this pattern, but the style is still available. If you follow me on my Instagram, then you already know that I don’t really care for the way this dress fits me. I love all of my other IGIGI dresses, but this one just doesn’t hang on me right, and I think it would suit a different body type better. It will most likely be going up on my Poshmark listings for sale relatively soon. So if you love this print and are also a size 20, make sure you are following me on there. If you are just joining Poshmark for the first time use my code KARENMSMITH77 and they will give you a $5 shopping credit.
The shoes are from Aerosoles, and I have had them for year. They are super comfortable as most Aerosoles are. But this particular style is not available any more.
So if you didn’t know, skirts are also acceptable for All Dress April. So that left me able to also participate in my friend Jamie’s (aka retrocutie) style challenge Band Tee Saturday. Graphic tees are also totally acceptable for her challenge. Make sure you check out her blog No Delusions Of Grandeur too.
So since so many people had expressed interest in Fashion Nova over the last couple of months, I wanted to bring you a look from them. So both my skirt and top are from Fashion Nova. I have on the Kiss Me On The Lips Sequin Tee and the Charmer Bandage Skirt in Light Pink. I am sure that a lot of you would like me to go into my thoughts on Fashion Nova right now, but I don’t think I could put everything I need to say here. But don’t worry I promise there will be a blog post coming within the month about Fashion Nova.
If you didn’t see something like this week make sure to keep checking back, there are still 23 more days to go, and that means 23 more looks. Tell me in the comments below what you like, what you didn’t like. I still have some wiggle room on filling request if there is something you guys want to see this month, so make sure to let me know that as well.
As you can probably already tell from the title, this is going to be a Valentine’s Day Lookbook. This is the first look book I have ever done, so go easy on me. I will probably do more in the future, but not on a regular schedule. And just in case anyone is not sure what the difference is between a lookbook and what I usually do is, a look book tends to feature multiple looks all set around one theme with limited info on the clothing. What I usually do is only more detailed info and only one or two looks.
What I really wanted to do here is make sure that I get you the basic info you need and offer a range of styles and prices for any budget. I wish I could have shown you more options, but I just didn’t have time to do it this year. I will as usual try to include info on the fit. For reference I typically wear a 20W or 2X at most traditional plus size clothing stores like Lane Bryant or Torrid. My measurements are Bust:49″ Waist: 42″ Hips: 54″. So I really hope you all enjoy the looks I put together, I would love to hear your feedback.
Dress: ESPRLIA Plus Size Retro Glam Lace Dress – Sold on Amazon for $52.99 regular price. Currently on sale for $23.99. Available in size 1X to 5X, I ordered a 3X (I felt their size chart was accurate). Available in three color combinations, this is the black lace and purple lining.
Shoes: My shoes are from Prima. I have had them for several years now. However I did find these Nina Women’s Bobbie LS Dress Sandal that are very similar. They come in two color options and the price starts at $31.38. Price depends on size and color picked.
Dress: I purchased this dress on Amazon. It is sold out through the seller I bought from. However I did find it available from another seller. The size charts are the same and everything. This Plus Size Lace Maxi Dress sells for $59.99 regular price. But it is on sale for $32.99 right now. Available in sizes 0X to 5X, I ordered in a 2X (I feel like this fit everywhere except where the band is at, it is quite snug there. I would not recommend this for anyone who puts their weight on in this area). Only available in black.
Shoes: The shoes I have on, you can’t really see them, but they are a pair of Nine West pumps from a couple of years ago. They are really similar to these Nine West Women’s Favorly Peep Toe D’orsay. They sell for $55.99, but there are limited sizes left.
Skirt: Pixie Dust Pleated Skirt – Sold by Society Plus for $39.99 at full price (they almost always have some sort of sale, like right now they have two different sales happening so make sure you use a coupon code). Available in sizes 14/16, 16/18, and 18/20 (I don’t understand the sizing choice, just make sure to check the size chart). I ordered the 18/20, I could have possibly gotten away with ordering the 16/18. If you wear a 22 at most places you could still possibly wear this if you happen to be a pear shape or hourglass. It is available in two color options, the one I am wearing is Magenta.
Top: The top is from a brand called C.O.C. I purchases it several years ago on Zulily.
Shoes: These are a pair of platform heels from Candy’s. I bought them about eight years ago, so obviously they no longer have them. And unfortunately I am not seeing anything similar.
Hair Accessory: I am wearing a Goody brand chiffon hair flower clip. I couldn’t find a link online, but most drugstores carry them and I found a similar one on Amazon. It’s the Wholesale Princess Chiffon Fabric Flower Hair Clip. They look spot on the same. They are available in twelve color options and sell for $2.49 + $3.49 shipping.
Skirt: 5-Layer Tutu Tulle Skirt Sold by Society Plus starting at $79.99 regular price (they always have sales going like now, they currently have two sales in progress as I type this. So be don’t forget to use a coupon code). Available in sizes 14/16 to 34/36. I can’t tell you what size I have because I bought mine back when they were still Cool Gal Blue and they offered these customized. I do know they are still the same design, but I don’t think they custom make them anymore. They are available in three lengths and eight colors.
Top: The Off The Shoulder Bardot Top in pink. I purchased this at Torrid last year and it is no longer available in this color. There are some other options available though. The same top is still available in black. You can find it on Torrid’s Website or on Amazon. You can also make one of the Foldover Collar Sweaters from Torrid work.
Shoes: My shoes are from Eva & Zoe. I bought these a couple of years ago at Off Broadway Shoes. I can’t find anything like them currently.
Belt: My belt is from city chic. They no longer have the exact one I am wearing in the picture, but they do have the Wide Metal Plate Belt. It looks just the same with the exception of the color is slightly different. This is a stretch belt all except the metal potion in the front. It closes in the back with a snap. It sells for $24.00.
Jewelry: I purchased my bib necklace at TJ Maxx a few months ago. I have no idea what the brand is or where to point you to for the exact one, but I found this Crystal Flowers Bib Necklace Set By Fashion Destination that is similar. It sells for $24.34 currently, but the regular price is $44.13.
In the comments below tell me what you are planning on wearing for Valentine’s Day.
I have for you another hidden gem of Amazon. I have done several of these now. My last one featured a Unicorn Skater Dress from CowCow, but you can find them all using the search feature in the archives.
This dress is available in six prints. It comes in sizes small through 5X. It sells for just $18.99 with free shipping.
I ordered mine on December 30, 16 and I received it on January 20, 17. So it took exactly three weeks to receive it. Though the estimated time was much longer.
The fit is great and comfortable. I typically wear a 20W or a 2X at most traditional plus size stores like Lane Bryant or Torrid. In this dress I ordered their 4X, though I could possibly have fit a 3X. I like form fitting, I just prefer it to not be super tight. For reference my measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 42″ Hips: 54″. Their size chart is in centimeters, but here is a centimeter to inches converter to help you figure out your size.
Depending on how tight you like your clothing and your body shape, the 5X fit up to a 24W.
I really love the cute owl print on this dress too. It is so different from anything I have in my closet already. The sleeves, I am not really sure what to call them. They aren’t quite full length, but they aren’t 3/4 length either. They seem to land in between. The split above the knee is quite unique as well. Not that having a split is unique, but the way they chose to do it is. Instead of it being a straight split, it is rather rounded.
Paired with it I have on my wide calf boots from the Journee’s Collection on Zulily. I also have on a pair Silver Hoop Earrings from Icing.
The fabric is of medium thickness. It is definitely not what I would choose for cold weather wear. By itself, it is probably right for mid spring/fall.
However you could easily extend the wear of this dress by pairing it with a simple cardigan like this You, Me, & A Cup of Tea Cardi in Dark Red from Society Plus. I think the red really pops against this dress.
Tell me in the comments how you would accessorize this dress. And don’t forget, I am open to any suggestions of brands or specific items you want me to check out on Amazon for this series.
I did receive this item at a discounted price for review purposes. However all opinions expressed are my own whether they positive or negative.
Okay, so its not actually a real kilt, but it has the look and feel of one. I was lucky enough to get one of the Outlander Fraser Tartan Plaid Skirts from Torrid. I would love to tell you that you could get one too, but at this moment they are sold and I have no idea if they are going to bring them back. I do think that its highly likely they will if enough people request it, especially considering quite a few of the pieces from this collection sold out within the first three days.
It doesn’t really stand out in the pictures like it does in person but there is a very distinct line of a berry or wine color running through the plaid pattern. So I paired the skirt with this BELLE + SKY Long-Sleeve Clip Dot Woven Blouse in Deep Ruby from JC Pennys. It is also currently out of stock, however you can sign up to be put on an email notification list for when its back in stock.
The top is pretty sheer, so under it I have on a Torrid Foxy Cami in merlot red. It matches pretty perfectly. They look like they belong together.
The wide calf boots in gray are from the Journee Collection that often sells on Zulily. If you don’t find them on there today, don’t give up. These sorts of boots and this collection sell on Zulily pretty often, but the collections only sell for three days at a time. So just check back often and sign up for their emails if you want a good deal on these sort of boots.
So in the comments below tell me if you managed to get one of these skirts, and what did you pair with them?
Last week Society Plus started their Black Friday Sale early and will be running it till the 27th of this month. If you caught my blog post with my Society Plus Black Friday Wish List then you already knew about this. Some items have long sold out, but I am still hopeful they will be restocked before the sale ends. And I do promise to keep you guys notified if that happens.
But I did get some of the pieces in from the list I created and I wanted to share with you what they look like. Have you always wanted that 90’s clueless look and felt like you just couldn’t achieve it because no one ever made it plus sizes? Well now they do. Thanks Society Plus!
The jacket is the Anastasia Lace Jacket. It zips up about 3/4 of the way up. Long sleeves and two zippered pockets in front.
As you can see there are also lace panels in the back of the jacket.
With the jacket I have on the Lakynn Faux Suede Scoop Crop Top and the Cher Plaid Mini Skirt in Gray/Charcoal. I ordered everything in an 18/20, which is my usual size. One tip, I suggest ordering up a size in the crop top if you have a large bust like me. These don’t have as much stretch as the crop tops from the summer. I am exchanging sizes for mine.
If you are wondering about the accessories, here is what I have on with it.
I lived on a tight budget for many years of my life. Honestly many of my younger years were spent in poverty. Family helped pay for my wardrobe for school. Purchasing items, even cheap items, would often be a struggle. So I understand for many people that when you buy a piece of clothing for your wardrobe you need it to be able to pair with multiple things to help get the most for your money. That is why I wanted to do some post like these. Not only is the top used in more than one outfit, but everything it is styled with was either thrifted, bought on clearance, or bought on sale.
The top I chose to create the looks with for this post is this top from Simply Be:
The original price was $22.99 and it is currently on sale for $16.49. I believe I paid $18.99 for it. It comes in three other color options: black, cobalt blue, and a color they call cassis(the color shown in the picture) but looks like eggplant to me. It comes in sizes 8 to 28, though some sizes are sold out in some colors. I normally wear a 20 at Lane Bryant and Torrid, and that is what I ordered in this top. It seems to fit true to size.
In look one, I have the top paired with a pair of J2 by JOUJOU Jeans I found on a TJ Maxx clearance rack for $10. They work great because they have a slight pink tint to them. My shoes I bought on Zulily quite some time ago. They are Top Moda brand. I got them for half price, which is $9.99 plus shipping. They are no longer available, however I found a pair on Amazon that is almost exactly the same.
If you happen to have Amazon Prime, since these have free Prime shipping they would come to about the same price as the ones I have. My necklace is one I got in a lot on ebay a long time ago. It was a massive lot of Icing jewelry. The price ended up break down to 50 cents each.
So lets add that up. $18.99 for the top, $9.99 for the jeans, $9.99 for the shoes, and $0.50 for the necklace. That brings the total to $39.47 for look one.
For look two I have it paired with a pair of culotte pants I got from Torrid back in the spring with Haute Cash. I paid $22.25 according to my receipt. They are all gone now, but I did find something similar on Amazon for a similar price if anyone wants something like it.
Along with it I have on a pair of Montego Bay Club Wedges I found on eBay last year for $1.99. I looked and couldn’t find anything close in price for you guys. But its one of those things you have to be on the lookout all the time to get good deals. My jewelry consisted of the same necklace from before and an added pair of hoop earrings that came from that same Icing lot. That make $1.00 my total cost for jewelry.
So lets add this up again. The top was $18.99, $22.25 for the pants, $1.99 for the shoes, and $1.00 for the jewelry. That makes the grand total $44.23 for look two.
Where the real savings come in is mixing and matching pieces so you don’t have to rebuy. So the real total for two outfits is $64.21. I don’t think I am sharing anything revolutionary here, but I do know some people find it harder to mix pieces with multiple items in their wardrobe. Perhaps it just becomes easier to do for some of us after you have done it for years out of necessity.
As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, I am trying to implement a plan that makes it easier for me to post on a more regular schedule thus keeping the blog active. I have been working a lot on the back end portion of that, but I am still trying to put out some posts each week.
But as I was thinking about what I wanted to post I realized that last year I had a lot of pictures laying around of various outfits I didn’t get to blog about. I really wanted to share them. And while a lot of things may no longer be available, some things still are. And even if they are not, someone may find inspiration in the outfits somehow.
I am not going to go into a lot of details on this post. But I will let you know where each piece came from, and anything that is still available I will make sure to link to the item. And please keep in mind, some of these items can still be found in resale places like eBay and the like.
Here is the collage of looks from this past year that I missed talking about. I am going to take these one at a time below and list where each item came from.
The top left and center picture are obviously the same look except I have on a jacket in this picture, so I am only using this one to cover everything.
The Jacket: This is from Torrid, it is their Military Style Jacket. They no longer have this exact one, but they have one that is very similar called their Fitted Military Jacket.
The Top: Also from Torrid, but nothing similar offered at the moment. Though they do occasionally bring this style back and I have seen similar at other stores.
The Leggings: Yet again from Torrid and no longer available. But Torrid does have a somewhat similar pair available called Plaid Skull Leggings.
The Top: Also from Torrid. While it was called something different when I got it, you can still get this top. It is now called the Cinch Lace Babydoll Top. Torrid is constantly rereleasing this top in various colors with new names. It is very comfortable and a pretty universally flattering shape. I have this top in at least three colors.
The Pants: Surprise, these are from Torrid. They are the Noir Collection All-Nighter Pant – Slim Fix Pixie Skinny. If you haven’t tried these before you really should. They are like if a pair of Yoga pants and pair of dress pants and pair of spanx had a threesome, and that somehow miraculously produced a child.
The Purse: Is from Steve Madden but is unfortunately no longer available.
The Shoes: They are Cherry Patent Leather Mary Janes from a brand called Madison Comfort. I bought mine on Zulily. I did a quick search and couldn’t fin a website for the company or anywhere else to find them other than used. This brand sells on Zulily pretty frequently, and they are really comfy and offer wide widths. If you are not already a member of Zulily, it cost nothing to sign up, they are just a flash sale sight. In my opinion one of the best especially for plus sizes. Plus sizes are always included every day. You can sign up here.
The Top and Shorts: Both of these items came from CATO’s. And while they are both sold out, they do have a somewhat similar pair of shorts in a different color. You can find those here.
The Shoe: If you have read any of my previous posts where I wore flip flops, you should know what brand these are by now. There are some rare exceptions to this, but for the most part my flip flops are almost always Flojos. They don’t seem to be selling this purple color anymore, which makes me sad. But you can still get this same style in other colors. They are the Cami Flat Sandal from Flojos .
Snapped this picture when I first got it in, and ended up wearing it to two cons this past summer.
It is not available at this time, however it has been brought back once already since the original release. Also you can check Torrid, Hot Topic, and Her Universe for other plus size Doctor Who themed clothing.
The Top: I got this corset style top, which is the black and red part you see peeking out, at the Avenue last year. They don’t seem to have anything similar this year. But if you wanted a similar look Torrid has this Lace Babydoll Bustier Top .
The Pants: I am wearing those same Noir Collection All-Nighter Pants that I had on with the red top.
The Boots: Again I know you can’t see them, but I have on another pair of something I bought on Zulily. They have great deals on wide calf boots (like seriously you can find some under $30). They even occasionally have double wide calf boots. The ones I have are from the Journey Collection. Check above for the link to sign up.
As always look forward to hearing your feedback and questions.
