Yes, believe it or not, I finally have a plus size fashion post up for you. Better late than never I think. This is one that I have meant to post for a bit, but never had time. It feels really important to me to share this one with you, just because of how much trouble I have had finding a jumpsuit that fits.
If you too are a jumpsuit lover and over 5’4″, you probably realize how challenging find one that fits can be. I am 5′ 8″, and while I don’t think of that as exceptionally tall, most of my height seems to be in the area that affects jumpsuit fit the most. Add in being extra curvy, and it’s not easy to find a jumpsuit that works for your body. I have even tried a fair share of jumpsuits on, and shared them here on the blog.
Before we take a look at the actual jumpsuit, let me start in my usual way and share my sizing info. If you are new to the blog, I try to do this with outfit posts because I think it can be helpful for you to judge whether the items will fit you, and what size might fit you best. I typically wear a size 20W or 2X at most plus size stores like Lane Bryant or Torrid. As I said previously I am 5′ 8″. My measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 43″ Hips: 54″. And I wear a 40DDD bra.
I am wearing my usual size for Torrid, being a 2. And I have it paired with some Sketchers Rumblers Wedge Heel Sandals. If you are looking for a comfortable heeled sandal, look no further.
Here is what you really need to know about this jumpsuit. It is meant to be worn off the shoulders, however as you can see it can easily be adjusted to wear over the shoulders without looking odd. And since it has a flounce ruffle all the way around, you can still get some arm coverage if that is what you are looking for.
Yes, it has pockets. I am not typically a pockets fan, and I know that makes me the odd person out. But this jumpsuit has pockets actually made in a way that I don’t mind.
And most important to me was the fit. As I mentioned before I have a really difficult time finding jumpsuits in recent years that actually fits my height. Since most of my height is in the stride, and I have a booty, most jumpsuits end up giving me a frontal wedgie. Not really a good look or comfortable. This jumpsuit however is a perfect fit.
In addition, I love all the details. The print is bright and colorful. I love and off the shoulder look. And the flounce ruffle gives it a slightly more feminine edge. Even the empire waist is a perfect fit for me. And to top it off, the fabric itself is very soft and comfortable to wear.
Now, I recognize that this may not be everyone’s taste. And since they are out of some of the sizes, I did want to point out a few of the other jumpsuits Torrid has that may interest you. While I have not tried these on myself, the way these are structured looks promising for my fellow tall girls out there.
I know I have continued to be away for a while, and it’s really just more of the same kind of stuff going on in life that has kept me away from the blog. Don’t give up on me, I promise I will have my shit together soon. I am hoping my upcoming vacation will give me a renewed sense of energy and clarity.
But we aren’t here about that right now. I recently attended my first local LGBTQ charity event, outside of Pride of course, and I knew I wanted to share what the event was like with all of you. If you have followed this blog for any amount of time then you know that I am always down to support a good cause and any group that is about equality.
This was the Big Baskets of the Bluegrass Underwear Fashion Show & Charity Auction. The event was hosted by a local group called the KBB (Kentucky Bourbon Bears) and the Bar Complex. The charity they were raising money for was Arbor Youth Services. I took a lot of pictures at the event, as well as a selfie of what I wore, so I could share it all with you (just a reminder before you scroll down to the pictures they will be considered NSFW for most people). But before we move on to the pictures, I want to take a minute to share with you a little information about the event as well as each of the organizations and how you can be involved if you would like.
First lest talk about the KBB. According to their website:
The Kentucky Bourbon Bears, Inc. is a social organization whose purpose is to provide a brotherhood and place of acceptance. We are a network for gay and bisexual men who identify themselves as bears, bear admirers and friends of bears. Our members are from all walks of life, size, shape, age, color and social standing.
Our main goal is a drama-free, accepting brotherhood that opens our membership to all men of Kentucky and, through our diversity and differences, create a strong organization that is able to give back to the community in which we live.
The events co-sponsor, The Bar Complex, is Lexington’s most well-known gay and alternative bar. Don’t quote me on this, but I believe they are also the oldest one in town. They consist of three levels. On one level is lounge that offers various shows and events, then on the next level is their cabaret, and the top floor is the dance floor and light show. All three levels have their own bars. The Big Baskets of the Bluegrass was held on the ground level in the lounge.
Since this is my first year attending the event I am not sure if they raise money for the same charity every year or if they pick a different one. But what I do know is that this years charity was Arbor Youth Services. They are a great organization that helps children. Their main focus is on homeless and at risk children. They have an emergency shelter as well as several support services for these children in need. Since LGBTQ youth are the most at risk, this makes a lot of sense to be the charity the KBB chose to support. If you would like to support Arbor Youth Services, you can do so by either donating either money and items or by getting involved and giving of your time.
So while the KBB is focused on Gay and Bi men, the actual Big Baskets of the Bluegrass event included women. And the event itself wasn’t advertised as a body positive event, I know body positive when I see it. In fact it was also very body inclusive. There were both men and women who modeled in the show, as well as people of various ethnicities and colors. I won’t go so far as to say every body type was represented (because I think we all should realize bodies are really like snowflakes and they are all unique), but there was a true variety of shapes and sizes. The event itself was set up so you could show up early and take a look at all of the baskets up for auction. Then once the auction started each model came out wearing underwear/sleep wear/lingerie and would also show off a basket. When bidding you were not only bidding on the basket but also whatever the model was wearing. In addition to the auction they did have entertainment in the form of Drag Queen performances.
Not only was this for a good cause, but the event was just a great time. My friend and I that went together had such a good time that we already have plans to go next year. The evening in all was a success. The KBB managed to raise $4,400 for Arbor Youth Services and a good time was had by all.
I took a lot of pictures, I am not sharing them all just the ones I thought were the best of the evening.
Since this is still a blog about plus size fashion, you may be wondering what exactly someone wears to a charity auction and lingerie show. I am pretty sure the answer is anything you want. However, I did manage snap a selfie that evening so I could share what I wore.
I had been holding on to this cupcake print Rebdolls “Loaded Up” Crop Top for over a year now, just wondering what I should wear it to. Going to an event hosted by a gay and bi men’s club and it seeming so body positive appeared to be the perfect opportunity to me.
I paired with it a pink skater skirt from Torrid. While they don’t currently have this color, Torrid always has at least one skater skirt available. They have several at the moment like this Pink & Black Plaid Twill Skater Skirt. I also put on my favorite rainbow necklace made by the beautiful and talented Alyssa of butter n’ honey.
You can’t see them very well in this picture, I do have on a pair of white Skechers Rumblers. You can sort of see a glimpse of them in the lower right hand of the picture. If you haven’t tried these, they are the most comfortable wedges you will ever put on.
I know this post was a bit different from what I typically do, so make sure to let me know if you like this type of post or not. I always appreciate your feedback.
Its that time of year again, turkey and family followed by days of deals. This is always the time to get the best deals on Christmas gifts or just something special for yourself that you wouldn’t normally splurge on.
That’s right it is time for those Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Just like last year I will continue to add to the list over the next few days as I find things, but this is going to be the majority of it.
Yes some of the links are affiliate links, but not all of them. Each year I try to give you only a list of the stores I believe to be giving a great deal that you can not get the rest of the year from that store, or at least not most of the year. And just like previous years, this will consist of mainly plus size clothing sales, but it will also have some beauty and other types of products. And this year I have added a section for subscription boxes as well. I will make it easy and list in categories and then in alphabetical order. So, if you are looking for Torrid, look in the plus size fashion section and then look for the T’s. Store names will be clickable and all their sales will be listed below their names.

I ordered this dress a little over a month ago, and it was still plenty warm here at the time. But then a week after I got it we had a massive drop in temperature. I kept holding off on doing this post thinking I would do it in the spring, but then I thought this is actually something that I would wear in every season. I just would wear it very different in each of the seasons. So I thought I would do something different this time. In addition to talking about the fit and quality of the dress I will also be sharing how I would wear it and link to some items that I would pair it with.
For sizing reference, I typically wear a size 20W or 2X at most plus size stores like Lane Bryant and Torrid. My measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 43″ Hips: 54″ And I wear a 40DDD bra.
This dress sells for $18.00, and I am wearing it in a size 3X. It is available in sizes 1X to 7X. There are five color options, the color I have is called Cypress Green. I personally consider it to be olive-green or army green, whichever you want to call it. The other color options are black, navy, deep red and light heather grey.
The fabric is a jersey t-shirt fabric, but not the super thing kind. It is thick enough you are not going to see through it. The weight is wearable on its own anytime from late spring to early fall. And between the fabric thickness and the seeming, it does feel like a nice quality. The fit is perfect, and I thought the size chart was accurate.
This is an Amazon owned brand, so if anything is wrong it should be easily returnable. And of course it is available with free prime shipping. This particular Amazon clothing brand focuses on simple and chic basics. Things that are staples in most wardrobes in classic colors.
So I wanted to give you some ideas on how I would style this dress for each season. I am going to go one season at a time. And I tried to stay as much as possible to items you can buy on Amazon, but that wasn’t possible for everything.
Let’s start with summer because I feel that is this is the time of year most people would be interested in this dress, and I would go mostly simple with the accessories for it.
Moving into the fall I can see introducing some richer tones to warm your look up. The temperature can vary a lot in the fall depending on how early or late it is in the season, and of course where you live. So while I am not linking them here, I would also suggest you could easily add some tights to this look to add some more warmth.
My fall shoe of choice to pair with dress is this J. Adams Jones Combat Bootie. I actually own these boots, you may recently seen them in my Instagram feed. They are perfect for fall.
Don’t forget your jacket in the fall. This Suedette Biker Jacket from Simply Be will no doubt look stunning with this dress, and quite a few other outfits for that matter.
If you are always chilly or just the type that never feels an outfit is complete without accessories, then you may want to add a scarf to your fall look. I really like this Ted and Jack Fall Foliage Pattern Silk Feel Scarf for this particular look.
Now if you are like me, in the winter I am always freezing. There is nothing I can do to get warm enough, and I like to get cozy warm clothing as much as possible. So I wanted to share a way to really make this the most warm and toasty as possible.
To make this dress wearable in the winter I would start by adding some leggings. I really like the idea of these Torrid Faux Leather Leggings for a winter look with this dress.
To keep you extra warm and toasty I would try this Fur Gilet from Simply Be. I’m pretty sure this is just an open front vest.
And finally I would top off my winter look with this La Carrie Faux Fur Headband with Stretch. I don’t do well with a lot of hats, but I love this sort of headband for the winter and it really does keep you warm.
And finally when it warms back up for spring, I think a fun monotone look would be a lot of fun.
If you are seeing this on the day that it is published then today is my birthday. And I wanted to honor my fellow Scorpios. I thought why not do that by sharing a list of great gift ideas for the Scorpio in your life, or something you as a Scorpio might like to treat yourself to.
I personally am not into horoscopes, but have always loved my astrological sign and found the description accurate for me. So don’t be surprised if there are quite a few items that actually feature the Scorpio astrological symbol.
I have a pretty impressive mug collection and I think this would make the perfect birthday mug for any Scorpio. And of course these are available in other signs, there are links on the product page to each individual sign.
If your going to have a mug, you need something to put in it right? I personally love tea, and I am sure a fair amount of you do as well. Now the Scorpio one that I am linking to is showing as temporarily out of stock, but you can sign up for notifications when it comes back in stock. And of course you can get teas for all of the other signs.
My Zodiac Box Subscription
Maybe you want to get a gift for someone who loves their zodiac, but you don’t know what to get them. Why not try out a subscription box. Yep, there is a subscription box for even that. You just fill out a small form with which zodiac sign you want the box for and a couple of other questions and you are good to go. If you are not sure about this one, I will have a review of this product coming in the relatively close future.
So Scorpios don’t have a birthstone, that is a birth month thing. However, the majority of Scorpios are November babies. And back in the day Golden Topaz was the birthstone of November. But I thought this antique looking pendant necklace would be a big hit, even if it’s not your birthstone, with most Scorpios. And because its handmade you can customize the length of the chain to what is a comfortable fit for you.
If you like the idea of a necklace but you are more into delicate small sizes jewelry, this dainty piece from Torrid might be more your style. You can wear it alone or layer it up with another piece of jewelry to really personalize your style.
This one might seem an odd choice for this list to some of you, but I personally think it works on many levels. Scorpios are a water sign, and with the customization feature you could put a picture of your astrological sign, a picture of someone you love, or just something your passionate about. And this is really a gift that could work for anyone.
Personally, I always think soap makes a good gift. And these soaps have a lot of personality, plus they can be customized. You pick the color and the scent. Since they are customizable, I am sure that you could also ask for fragrance free. This seller also has the other zodiac signs.
There are tons of Scorpio themed rings on the market in all sorts of styles. From simple to bold, but this might be one of the most unique. If your buying for someone who really likes to make a statement with their jewelry this might be a winner.
Scorpio Zodiac Journal
If the Scorpio in your life is more of the creative type, then perhaps a journal might be more to their tastes.
If you looking for a gift for that person that wants to proclaim to the whole world they are a Scorpio and why, then this is the way to go It reads, ‘I Am A Scorpio I Was Born With My Heart On My Sleeve A Fire In My Soul And A Mouth I Can’t Control Tees’. This is available in multiple cuts and sizes.
Tell me in the comments if you are shopping for a Scorpio or if you already have. Or are you a Scorpio yourself? Don’t forget to leave a happy birthday wish or just a shout out to your favorite Scorpio.
Vacation was a bit of a struggle, and I didn’t get as many pictures taken as I had intended, but I did get did get some pictures of a few outfits. So I put a plus size vacation clothing look book together for you. Not everything is going to still be available from the original seller, but we will talk about that more as we come to it.
Our trip included stops in the following:
New Orleans, Louisiana
Orange Beach, Alabama
So I tried to pack a wardrobe that was stylish, comfortable, and cool. I included a couple of nicer outfits for dinner at nicer restaurants we had planned. But overwhelmingly I packed clothing that would keep me cool because everyone kept telling me how hot it was going to be. Ironically, as it turned, it was hotter where I live than at any of the place we visited. But I am still happy with what I packed.
This was from the first full day I was in New Orleans. It’s also probably the most put together I looked during my whole trip at any of the stops we made. I mean I actually did my hair this day, and my accessories go with my outfit. On vacation for me that is my typical, but this vacation was anything but typical.
The dress is from Torrid. It is their Olive V-Neck Tiered Challis Mini Dress. That particular dress is not available at the moment, but you never know with Torrid. They often bring items back. Or alternatively they do have similar items. Currently the dress closest in style to what I am wearing is their Olive Tie Sleeve Gauze Skater Dress. But there is only a few sizes left online as I type this, so if you want it grab it before its gone. My dress is a size 2, which is pretty much my standard size at Torrid in most things.
The purse is from Multi Sac Handbags, it is one of the purses they sent me last year. If you want to hear know more about why I like Multi Sac and how I ended up with them sending me some purses, you can read about it in the Giveaway I did with Multisac last year. This bag I have here is their Lorraine Crossbody in two-tone vinyl(faux leather). This color combo is Pony and Coffee. I can’t find this color on their website, so I linked to the black version. But you can most likely find this color combo in one of the stores they sell in.
One of the last days we were in New Orleans we took a bus tour and then walked through the Market. So I made sure to wear something breezy and comfortable.
This dress is from ASOS Curve, but I didn’t buy it from ASOS. I had seen it on their website some time ago and they were already sold out of anything close to my size. I ended up finding it on Poshmark last fall, and I bought it to wear this summer. I have talked about Poshmark here on the blog before, I really think it’s a great way to find deals and items you missed out on when they were in the store. I typically size down to an 18 at ASOS, but I asked a few questions from the seller and found out this ran a bit small. The one I am wearing is a size 22. It was a bit big and I probably would have been okay with a 20, but I think this worked well enough.
I both sell and buy on Poshmark as do a lot of bloggers. If you want to check out what I have up for sale on my Poshmark closet you can click here, or it is always linked in the main menu at the top of every page. You can find a lot of great deals, and some not so great deals, on a wide variety of brands including ASOS Curve (This link should take you to all the ASOS Curve available on Poshmark). Most items are either new or gently used. If you don’t already have an account on Poshmark, then by using this link you can get a $5 off your first purchase. If it asks you for a code use KARENMSMITH77.
With the dress I have paired with it the same handbag as above. My shoes are from the Avenue. They are their Farrah Braided Gladiator Wedge Sandal. They come in two colors, black or brown. They are on clearance now, and not many sizes left, but if they have your size these are selling for a steal. To finish it off I have on a pair of 50mm silver hoop earrings.
This was taken at our last stop in Helen, Georgia. So it was kind of backlit and my husband forgot to put the backlighting setting on, but I thought the picture looked kind of cool anyway. So I decided to share my picture but I will also share the stock photo below so you can see the details of the print.
I didn’t really add anything other than shoes to this dress. The day that I wore this we were mainly out taking some short walks around a lake and grabbing lunch at a small store. Not really the kind of area or kind of activities you get really dressed up for. The shoes I have on were super comfortable, like straight out of the box they were comfortable. They are also from the Avenue. It is their Fran Braided Slingback Wedge Sandal in Bronze. It is also available in black, but since this shoe is on clearance sizes are limited as I am writing this.
If you see this and think I was stuck on dresses and cold shoulders, you’re not entirely wrong. But I did have more variety than this in my wardrobe, however my energy and a lot of rain conspired against me when it came to taking pictures of those other outfits. I do feel though that these three outfits give a good overview of my vacation style. And really I think I always love dresses and cold shoulders.
Tell me in the comments what your vacation style is.
Its been a minute since I showed you my first Amazon Prime Wardrobe. They seem to have added some more options in the plus sizes since I last picked items to show, so I thought now was a good time again to show some more selections. I’m still not feeling my best, so the pictures are not in my usual style or place. I just did a casual try on in my bedroom. No makeup or hair done. No shoes on. Just me.
And while I say they have added more options, and they have, I will say their selection is still greatly lacking for plus sizes. I initially set out wanting to order pants and swimsuits to show, and as you will see I got neither of those. They did have pants as options, but the selections were extremely limited and many were gone in my size. As for bathing suits, there was a category for them, but nothing was listed. So I just reverted back to my typical choice of dresses, tops, jewelry, and shoes.
Just as a FYI for those of you not familiar with how the Amazon Prime Wardrobe works, not all sizes or colors are guaranteed to be offered for home try on. I will be posting the stats for each item as they are available to purchase, but you will have to check for yourself if they are still available when this post goes live and if your size is available for at home try on. If you wear the same size as me then you are golden, these items are definitely available for at home try on. For reference I generally wear a size 20W or a 2X at most plus size women’s stores like Lane Bryant or Torrid. My current measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 42.5″ and Hips: 54.5″. I wear 40DDD bra and 9W shoe.
I ended up getting mostly dresses, so let’s start with them first. I picked up four of them. I don’t work outside of the home, so most of my dresses aren’t really work appropriate. So I got two dresses I thought would be great for work for those of you who need it. And the other two dresses are more of my style.
This dress fit me about as perfect as I could ask for. Calvin Klein usually is a good fit for me. Most of their designs are with the hourglass shape in mind. It’s really a beautiful well made dress. I think it would look equally great on you pear shaped ladies as the hips are pretty open. It might be a challenge for anyone who puts their weight on in the middle as there is no stretch in the material. But there is no harm in trying, that is the great thing about the Amazon Prime Wardrobe service. If it doesn’t fit, just put it back in the box and ship it back.
This is the Sangria Women’s Plus Size Palm Print Chiffon Maxi. It is available in sizes 16 to 24. I am wearing a size 20W. It sells for $85.00.
I feel like I have a lot of things to say about this dress, some good, some bad. I was initially hesitant to put this in my Prime Wardrobe cart because the model looked very thin added to the fact that there was no size chart posted for the brand it had me worried that it would run really small. I wasn’t sold on the fabric either. When I took it out of the package I was really pleasantly surprised at the fabric and pattern. It was really much prettier in person.
My feelings started changing once I had the dress on. But instead of my fears of the dress running really small, it was quite the opposite. I know you can’t tell much from the picture above, but this dress actually runs one to two sizes too large. There were also some fit issues that unless I eventually try on the smaller size I won’t know if it was caused by the size issue or if it is a problem with how the dress is made.
I did take some additional pictures with my cell phone so you can get a closer look at the problem areas.
You can see obviously the arm holes were way too big. And in the bust you can see my bra peeking through where it’s too large and gapes open. There was no way to securely close it. There were also issues in the waist, but no way to get them to show up in a picture. If this dress is still available in a smaller size when I get back from vacation I may give it another shot, but that is a big if.
This is the Lark & Ro Sleeveless Printed Scuba Sheath Dress. It is available in sizes 14 to 24. It sells for $35.76, making this the most affordable dress I tried on this time. So shout out to the plus size ladies on a budget. I am wearing a size 20W here.
This dress was also slightly large on me, but not nearly as large as the previous dress. It was mainly large in the middle and at the neck. But this dress is in a ponte material, so I think that I could easily size down even though it wasn’t big everywhere. I also think that not everyone would need to size down. It will depend on where you put your weight on and how fitted you like your clothing.
I’m not entirely sure why they are calling this dress a halter, it is not a halter neck. Maybe they meant mock halter neck. I’m not entirely sure I even would consider this dress a fit and flare. But no matter what it’s called, it is definitely beautiful and it fits me quite well. I don’t think my pictures do it justice. It is a thinner material though, so this is not going to be something you get for cooler weather.
Since that was the last dress we will move on to the tops next. Since I did not get any pants in this order I used a pair of my own jeggings from Torrid.
This is the Lucky Brand Hamsa Doodle Tee. I can’t really tell you a size range or price because it is now saying it is currently not available as I am writing this. I am linking to the top just in case incomes back in stock.
The one thing I can tell you is I have on a 2X, and it seems to be fitting the slightest bit large. It’s not uncomfortably large though, so I could make it work.
So I definitely though the print on this top was very pretty, but I had a couple of issues with it that are for the most part personal preference. The biggest thing for me is I just don’t like the way this lies on my body shape. It didn’t really show this well on the model shown. The other thing was the sleeves. It has a band about half way down the arm. It doesn’t have any stretch, and while it fit me it was uncomfortable. If anyone has larger upper arms than me I doubt it will fit them.
That is all of the clothes in this box. I do have a couple of accessories to share.
These are the Propet Women’s Aurora Wedge Sandal. They are available in sizes 6 to 12 and widths of Narrow all the way up to XXWide. It comes in 10 color options. I am wearing 9W in the color Brown. This particular shade and size sells for $69.95. However other colors and sizes are priced differently.
These are actually really great sandals. I liked them more than I expected. If you have a hard time finding a sandal with a comfortable fit because the straps are too tight or too loose, then this might be a great pair to try. Each individual strap on this shoe can open and adjust with velcro closures. It is a leather upper and a synthetic sole. Very comfortable foot bed with added arch support. This would make a great sandal for walking all day at a festival.
And my very last item are these Panacea Silver Teardrop Drusy Drop Earrings. I once again can’t give you the information on these because it says they are out of stock. But I have linked them in case they come back in stock.
I do think my picture more accurately depicts these earrings than the one shown on Amazon. Their stock photo looks very flat and one tone. But these earrings are multidimensional. They are very pretty.
At the end of the day what I ended up purchasing was the London Times Dress and the Panacea earrings. And while I technically did not purchase the shoes, I also sort of did. The color I wanted was not available for at home try on, so I did the try on with this color and sent those back. As soon as I saw that I really liked the shoes I purchased the ones I wanted which also happened to be drastically cheaper. I think I would have been more tempted by the Calvin Klein dress if I worked in an office. I also really wish the Sangria dress fit better because the fabric and movement of it is just beautiful.
For those of you interested in seeing how the dresses move on the body make sure you are following me on my social media. I will be posting some short vide clips of each of the dresses and me moving in them.
Let me know in the comments below what you want to see me try on next. Also let me know how you feel about the change in the way I did the pictures this time.
There has been a lot of great response to the recent new store alerts I have posted, especially the one for Beefcake Swimwear. And I have yet another new store alert. I am always so happy when I can tell you about a new place to shop that offers plus size clothing, and I think I have one today that will pique the interest of quite a few of you. Today we will be taking a look at Curve Girl.
Curve Girl is one of those companies that recently reached out to me and asked me to join their affiliate program. And as I have said previously, I get invited to a lot of affiliate programs, I only join if I either already use the companies products or I feel they have something to offer that I think will help my readers in some way. You can probably deduce that I did end up joining their affiliate program by the fact that I am writing this, because why would be writing this if I didn’t think they had something helpful to offer.
So what does Curve Girl have to offer? Well they have nice designs, and some are even unique. They have affordable prices. They are designed in the USA and manufactured in either China or India depending upon the item. They have pretty fast shipping times according to their website. And I am guessing you’re thinking, “okay, but you can get all of those things at other places”, and you can. But there are two things that made those things go from meh to OMG in about 6 seconds flat. 1. They make sizes Medium to 9X, which shoots them up to being one of the most size inclusive companies I am aware of. and 2. like eShakti they offer customization, only they do it for free and their prices are about half or less of eShakti. And after the bad experience I had with eShakti earlier this year, I had been on the hunt for other companies that offered customization so I could share with you.
I have placed an order with Curve Girl and will share a review on the items and ordering process once they actually arrive. In the mean time I wanted to go ahead and give you a basic overview of what the company has to offer and their pricing. But first lets take a look at their size chart.
This of course is not their full size chart, I couldn’t get a screenshot of the whole thing because of how large it is. I typically wear a size 20W or 2X at traditional plus size stores like Lane Bryant and Torrid. At most stores like these a 2X is an 18/20W. However occasionally a store will have their 2X be a 20/22W. One of the stores that does this would be JC Penny for Example. I do still wear a 20W or 2X in most of the brands in JC Penny, but there are a couple of exceptions. My measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 42″ Hips: 54″. I take my measurements and look at their size chart and I think it looks pretty normal for a plus size 20 and 2X.
Pants if I were ordering the based on the number size might be tricky, but they usually are everywhere. But. as long as their size chart is accurate, I should be able to order most other things straight from their off the rack sizes and them fit comfortably. But as I said, pants are always an issue for me, and I know a lot of you have said the same as well as dress lengths. So the order I placed I went with the custom sizing in hopes that their service will be something I can recommend for everyone.
When it comes to what they offer they have everything from casual daytime look all the way up to evening wear. Their designs seem to range from average, every plus size store has something similar to things I have never seen before offered in plus and maybe never in small sizes either. Not everything is my personal taste, but a lot of it is. Over all I think they have a nice variety. I will of course share what I ordered when my order comes in. But for now I want to share with you some of the pieces I think are more unique, whether they are my taste or not.
Their biggest selection seems to be in dresses.
The rest of the sections are pretty sparse, but they still have some interesting items here and there.
They seem to be adding new items on the regular, so if you don’t see what you want, you should keep checking back.
I have found a couple of small negatives. First, I don’t think their website is well-organized. Things are in wrong categories, some aren’t even in their categories, and some categories won’t let you view everything unless you click just the right button. The other issue I found is with the Ask A Question box. I could not get it to function correctly. Of course Curve Girl only opened this year and only time will tell if this is part of their growing pains that will be fixed quickly or if this will be a major flaw for them. In the meantime I highly recommend when using their website to take your time and fully look around. And if you have questions try using their email contact versus their question box.
Now the good news is that while I was in the middle of writing this, Curve Girl sent me an email telling me I could my readers know they are having a Summer SITEWIDE SALE 10% OFF. So if you want to give them a try yourself now is a great time. And I think they always have free shipping for orders over $50.
Let me know what you think in the comments. Have you spotted something you are excited to try?
It’s that time of year again! Torrid Haute Cash sale starts on July 11th. I started out thinking I would just do a recommendation post. I definitely want to talk about some great items you might want to consider picking up with your haute cash, but I was thinking that there may be some changes to some things some of you may not have realized if you are not a constant peruser of the website like me or a reader of your emails.
In the past there were a few changes that left some of you not as happy with Torrid, but these recent changes I think are for the better. But of course I will let you decide that for yourself. If you had haute cash prior to 5/31/18 then you may already have known this, but for those of you who did not. This time around was the first time Torrid has allowed shoppers to use their Haute Cash twice. They had a special date set from 5/31/18 to 6/4/18 where you could use your haute cash, and it wouldn’t go away. If you used it on that date you would accrue more haute cash and still be able to use them on the actual haute cash date which is 7/11/18 to 7/22/18. I think since they took away the universal codes, this is a good step of meeting people in the middle. Let me know in the comments what you think about it.
Another recent change has been a big increase in the range of heights available. I know that sounds a little awkward and little confusing, but I don’t know how else to say it so I will explain. Torrid has always had the petite/short, average, and tall lengths available in their jeans and some of their other pants. But that is where the options ended. Recently I noticed there are now additional options of extra short and extra tall. Unfortunately this change doesn’t seem to have affected their crop length jeans yet, but I hope that is a change they will make soon.
In addition there are now length options in their maxi dresses and even some tops. I think this is a great move for Torrid and their customers. It will really open up some clothing options that have been closed off due to height for so many people.
Now let’s get to the recommendations. For my recommendations I tried to give you a mix of things I actually own and things I have been wanting, while still showing a variety of styles. I picked three things from each category, at least the categories I had recommendations from. And they are broken down into those categories. I have made each of the pictures clickable so you can easily access the product pages.
Betty & Veronica – Veronica Black & Red Lipstick Bodycon Bustier Dress
Berry & White Geo Print Embellished Gauze Maxi Dress
Purple High Neck Jersey Mini Dress
Make sure to check out some of the great dresses at Torrid. I already own the Geo Print Maxi dress. I bought it last summer, and it was brought back this year by popular demand. The other two dresses I have had my eye on since they released.
Skirts And Pants
Retro Chic Black Tropical Full Skirt
Ivory Wide Leg Linen Trouser Pant
Black Floral Chiffon Pant
So I don’t own any of these, yet. But I most likely will be adding at least one of them to my close after the Haute Cash sale. You all probably know by now I am a fan of tropical prints. And the light airy fabrics these wide leg pants are made of
Graphic Tees And Tanks
Turquoise Unicorn Mermaid V-Neck Tee
Wonder Woman Black & Metallic Pink Fitted Tee
Heather Grey Mandala Triblend Tank
Make sure to pick up a few graphic tees and tanks. They are a great way to be comfy but make a statement about something yourself or something you love. And they can make a great gift for birthdays and Christmas too.
Shirts And Blouses
Rose Pink Embroidered Crepe Babydoll Top
Olive Owl Pleated Tank
Charcoal Pintuck Crepe Peasant Tunic
If you’re looking for something to wear to work or for a date night, and dresses aren’t your thing, a nice blouse paired with pants might be more your speed.
Jegging – White Wash
Premium Stretch Boyfriend Jean – Medium Wash
Frayed Flared Jean – Light Wash
I only really wear the jeggings from torrid anymore as they fit me the best. But I wanted to include a couple of other styles that I think are so cute that might fit other body types better than me. I think for most of us jeans are a staple, and Torrid has some of the best fits.
Grey Floral Lace Short
Boyfriend Bermuda Short – Distressed Medium Wash
Teal Linen Short
I always like to have fun with my wardrobe, but I know not everyone has that luxury due to work and lifestyle. However, I think when the heat rises and you need to cool off, the one place everyone has a little more freedom to play is with shorts. Have and stay cool on your days off.
While your checking out what to purchase, don’t forget to pick up some staples like camis, bras, and shoes. Tell me in the comments what you plan to pick up during the Haute Cash sale.
I really wanted to have this posted way before now, but this past weekend really took a lot out of me. I feel like that is the story of my life, but I am doing the best I can with my life circumstances. I think a lot of you get that, and maybe that is why you have stuck with me as readers of this blog. My life isn’t always Instagram perfect and I am going to be real about that.
But let’s focus on the positive. We are here now, and I am finally able to focus and am back to a semi livable energy level. So let’s talk about what I wore the last two weeks of All Dress April. I bunched the fifth week in with week four since week five was only two days long.
The top is their Off-the-Shoulder Lettuce-Edge Crop Top. It is not a super short crop top, and since I have the skirt raised higher, you wouldn’t even be able to tell its a crop top. But this particular style from Forever21 Plus does work really well for those of us with larger busts.
This is from Rebdolls. It is their “Rumor Has It” Maxi Skater Set in White. There is only a couple of sizes left in this set, so if you are interested, check it out quickly.
This was my first time ordering from Rebdolls, but I was pleasantly surprised at the size range and quality of what was offered. I did purchase one other item, which you will see soon hopefully. And I believe this won’t be my last time ordering from them, so more in the future.
On day 25 I decided to wear another Simply Be dress. And this one is still available. It is their Embroidered Stud Mesh Dress. I have it paired with some Aerosoles Pumps that I have had for a long time.
I think my outfit from day 26 was the most popular on social media out of all of my looks from the month, or at least it got the most comments and requests for the links. I purchased this look to wear to Pride this year, and I thought I would share it with all of you ahead of time. This look, head to toe, is available for purchase on Amazon.
My unicorn shoes were in white, but unfortunately they don’t have that color left anymore.
Day 27 brought me to the first day of the International Steampunk Symposium. I didn’t actually get a picture of my costume that day, but I had this picture of the exact same thing I wore for Time Traveler’s Weekend at the Ohio Ren Fair. I actually think I did share this look before, but I am not 100% positive about that.
Day 28 and day two at the International Steampunk Symposium. This is the one and only picture I managed to get of my costume that day. Unfortunately it doesn’t show the whole costume. But once again, it is something I have had a picture of from a previous year, and nothing new here on the blog. The picture below is from two years ago in the same costume.
The accessories were both bought on Etsy. The necklace is from Dr. Brassy, but her store is currently empty and from my understanding may never be refilled again. The headdress is from the BlackUnicornShop.
Day 29 was my last day at the International Steampunk Symposium. This outfit wasn’t complete, as I took off and forgot the jacket that was supposed to go with it. But here is what I have on:
As you can see, most of the accessory items are available on Amazon. I word of warning on the skirt. I have had a few issues with the fabric and seeming quality. But it is much more affordable than the average Victorian costume piece for a plus size skirt.
I did not participate this day, I was just too worn out from the Symposium to move.
And that wraps up 2018 of All Dress April.
As a side not: Next year will be a bit different for me. Every since I started participating I have always had the Steampunk Symposium in there somewhere. Usually it is at the end. But next year things the Symposium got scheduled for a month earlier. So for those of you who look forward to the costumes, I will try my best to still do a post related to the Symposium. I am super excited about the theme that has been announced for next year. It will be Fantastic Beasts. Lots of plans have already started. Let me know in the comments below if you would like some posts about things I am making for costume and various things my steampunk group is doing.
