How To Do Travel Skincare And Beauty When Your Allergic To Everything

Travel size skin care products

Okay, so I’m not literally allergic to everything. I’m not even sure that is possible, but I’m not a doctor either. However, if you have read any of my past posts about my allergy to Balsam of Peru, then you know I actually only have one allergy but I react to tons of things. So when I travel, or anyone else that may have a contact allergy, I have to think of lots of little extra things to pack that maybe the average person doesn’t. I can’t just go into a hotel and use the soap, shampoo, etc… that they leave out.

So when you have to pack all these extras they can really start to take up a lot of space or you have to go buy a gazillion travel sized containers to put your stuff in. Over time you start to develop new tricks to make the load lighter, especially when you get into air travel and want to make sure you don’t have to check your baggage.

If you have been following me over on Instagram or Twitter, then you probably know I just recently went on vacation. It was during this time that I thought, why not do a blog post about the kinds of things you pack and why. So I snapped a few pictures of various things I took with me while on my trip. Let’s start from there.

Travel size skin care productsFrom left to right Earth’s Recipe Moisture Bound Cream, Iceland Micro Hydrating Eye Stick from The Saem, Baviphat Urban Dollkiss Secret Recipe Rice Sheet Mask, and Hera Purifying Cleansing Foam.

Products I took with me on vaccation

Going clockwise from bottom left. Neogen Code 9 Gold Black Caviar Essence & Gold Tox Tightening Pack, Goodal Waterest Lotus Water Cleansing Tissue, and the Luseta Coconut Milk Shampoo & Conditioner Set.

This particular trip was a road trip so I had slightly more freedom in how much I packed, but I still didn’t want to let it get out of hand. In order to save space I have taken to packing sample and travel sizes as much as possible. And of course sheet masks are always convenient to pack, and so much lighter than a bunch of bottles of essence.

If I can get my usual products in a travel size, I definitely hold on to them. Your probably thinking, but buying travel sizes is more expensive. And they would be if I were buying them purposely, but I have several ways that I have started acquiring these smaller sized products without spending extra money over what I normally would.

So here are some of the ways I started getting convenient sizes to travel with.

  • First anytime you make a purchase online from a beauty store like Sephora or Ulta, they always give you samples. If the samples I am given are my choice, then I try to pick anything I know works for my skin first.
  • If I can’t find a discount code when shopping at those places, then I always scan for codes that give me travel size products or deluxe samples as a bonus. Sephora is especially great for this option.
  • The various subscription boxes I get almost always include some sort of sample size or travel size products in them each month. The ones I recommend the most for this is the Sephora Play Box, Glossybox, and BomiBox. They all usually include at least a couple of either samples or travel sizes and they are all on the more affordable side of beauty subscription services. BombiBox is a Korean beauty subscription and always is a safe bet for me to find something that is safe for my skin.
  • If you shop at Walgreen’s and are a rewards member, try checking out at the beauty counter or shopping online and many times you will find sample sizes in your bag/order. Now if you have sensitive skin like me, this option is probably the least likely to yield usable skin products, but you might get a cosmetic sample that also work well for travel.

You may not always be able to get free samples or have things save up like I talked about. I get that these may not be feasible for everyone. But if you find yourself in a bind and you need to purchase some smaller sized items for an upcoming trip, here are the easiest places to get them.

Tell me in the comments below if you have any tips on how or where to get sample and travel sized items at little to no cost.

Product Review – Butter London Essentials Set, Manicure Must Haves

The Essentials Set from Butter London

Essentials Set

I just recently got the Butter London Essentials Set, so trying Butter London nail polishes out for the very first time. If you follow me over on Instagram, then you know I have been really into painting my nails recently, and I have tried out lots of different polishes. I thought since I had a complete set from the same company this time, I would do a full on review here on the blog for you.

Here is what comes in the kit:

Each of those items are some of Butter London’s best sellers, and they are all available separately as well.

It arrived in the mail well packaged, and fully encased in bubble wrap. There is absolutely no worries of the product being broken short of a concrete block being dropped on it.

The Essentials Set from Butter London

This is how they were packaged. The base and top coats were in boxes and the two colors were just open.

I decided to try out the color Yummy Mummy first, but I didn’t look at the instructions. I just did what I normally would do.

Yummy Mummy from Butter London

I applied the base coat first. It went on easily, and I thought it dried quickly. Then I applied a coat of Yummy Mummy. The formula is a bit thin and watery. This is my preference though. I don’t care for the formulas that are too thick. They take forever to dry and are really hard to work with.

It also has a wide flat brush, so it applied very easily. I only applied the one coat of polish. I looked at the directions after, and it says to use two coats. Honestly I thought at the time it was giving me full coverage or I would have used two. I can see after its all done that I needed two coats, but its not so obvious that everyone will notice it. I mainly just see it at the tips of my nails when I am standing in a brighter light.

Last I applied the top coat. Out of the three items, I thought this was the hardest to work with. The brush didn’t seem to want to hold enough product to cover all of my larger nails, and I have small nails. But this seemed odd since I the brush looks to be the same as the one in the Yummy Mummy container. But overall the product was a little too thick and sticky to call it easy to apply.

I got four days of wear before I got a chip, which is really decent. Once I got the first chip I went ahead and removed the color and applied the next.

A Piece Of Cake from Butter London

I actually thought that since they were both neutrals and similar in tone that they would apply and wear the same, but I was wrong.

I started with the same base coat as before. Then this time I did two coats of color. I used the color Piece Of Cake this time. I noticed this colors formula was much thicker. I found it harder to apply, and as you can see in the picture I had way more areas to touch up.

It only lasted two days before chipping this time. I am curious to go back and see if it would be different with one coat. I will try and test that out in the near future for all of you. It will have to wait a bit though as I had some major breakage over my vacation.

I think this really comes down to what kind of formula you like. From my own perspective I would have no problems recommending Yummy Mummy as a color to try, and I personally will be trying a few other colors. However, if you know a thicker formula works better for you then A Piece Of Cake may be the color for you. And if you don’t know what works best for you then I would definitely go with the Essentials Set.

In the comments below let me know what your favorite Butter London polish color is. Do you have one that you would recommend to everyone?

This product was sent to me at a reduced price for review consideration. However all views are always my own, and expresses honestly.

Must Have Beauty Tools And Accessories

top ten beauty tools and accessories

top ten beauty tools and accessories

As many of you know, over the last few months I have been more focused on beauty and health related issues both here on the blog and on my social media. Since my health has been taxed lately I have had to conserve my energy, and the fashion posts in general just take far more time and energy to work on. Since I have been trying so many things, I have some great products to share with you. So I thought it was time to do a top ten post for you. These are things I have tried and fell in love with.

1. Professional Make up Storage Case With straps for Travel

This makeup case is perfect for anyone who is either a professional makeup artist or someone who finds themselves traveling with large amounts of makeup on any type of regular basis. The main area of the case is customizable to fit your needs. It has slotted moveable dividers. This was perfect for taking with me to the Steampunk Symposium. It made it so much easier to keep up with all my makeup. And its a great deal at only $34.89, half the price of anything similar I could find in local stores.

2. Acrylic Eyeshadow Organizer

I have been doing so much organizing with my makeup. When it comes to eyeshadow singles, especially the ones from ColourPop, they can be a pain to figure out what to do with them. These Eyeshadow Organizers have been a lifesaver for that. And they do fit most ColourPop Eyeshadows Perfectly. Each organizer holds 16 shadows.

3. The Vintage Cosmetic Company Smokey Eye Brush Set

This smokey eye brush set from The Vintage Cosmetic Company has quickly become some of my favorite brushes to use for eye makeup. They are intended for smokey eye looks, but they can be used a lot of ways including cut creases. Not only are these brushes a favorite, but a lot of products from this company are a favorite as you will see.

4. Beauty Blending Sponge Infused With Vitamin E from The Vintage Cosmetic Company

vitamin E infused blending sponge

This has become my favorite blending sponges. I have tried lots of different brands of from the top brand Beauty Blender all the way down to some of the cheapest sponges I could find at the Dollar Store. This blending sponge from The Vintage Cosmetic Company is really the best of both worlds when it comes to quality versus price. The quality is very similar to the coveted Beauty Blender, but with the price coming in between $4.00 to $8.00 depending on where you buy them from it is a relief on the wallet. I highly recommend checking out all the products from The Vintage Cosmetic Company. I have tried a lot of their products, and love them. The two shared are just my favorites. But if you love the vintage look and style you will definitely love this company.

5. 15 Hole Square Makeup Brush Drying Rack

I personally got tires of wasting paper towels just for laying out makeup brushes to dry on after cleaning them. This drying rack will save so much money and trees over time. You have to put it together yourself, but it is super easy to do.

6. Eyebrow Scissors from Litfly

Eyebrow Scissors from Litfly

I have only recently started even attempting to do anything with my eye brows. This is mainly because I have always had thick brows that I liked the shape of. But now that I am getting older, my brows have started to thin as well as getting some grays in the mix. In my journey of trying various brow grooming products, I have discover most of them that are designed for trimming your brows are kind of difficult to use and they require a steady hand. However, this particular pair of scissors from Litfly makes things so much easier. The comb guard on one side almost guarantees that you can’t cut your brow hairs down too far and that they will all look even. And because the comb and scissors are built into one, its one less tool to deal with.

7. Reusable Silicone Mask Cover

I have actually reviewed this mask cover for you guys before, and if you would like you can check that review out here. I highly recommend these for anyone who does sheet masking a lot.

8. Silicone Face Mask Brush

silicone brush from litfly

Maybe you are more into doing face masks. If you do masks a lot, this may be the tool you want in your life. As great as doing a face mask can make your skin feel, there is always such a mess and constantly having to clean up after application and then again after taking it off. Using one of these silicone brushes for applications not only cuts down on the mess but makes the application itself easier.

9. EasyPAG Round Floral Pencil Holders

So yes, these are technically pencil holders, not a beauty accessory. But they do make for a perfect makeup brush holder. They come in several color options, they are nicely weighted so they don’t tip over easy, and they are about half the price of anything marked to be for beauty products. This is one of those times thinking outside the box pays off.

10. Tony Moly – 5-Layer Cotton Sheet (400pcs)

Tony Moly five layer facial cottons

If you are all about that skin care life, you have to try some of the five layer cotton sheets from a Korean brand. The ones I have so far that I like the best are these from Tony Moly and one from another brand called Huxley. Huxley is a little harder to find though, and pricier. If you have only been exposed to the facial cotton wipes in American drug stores you probably are a little confuses as to why anyone would recommend these as a must have. Its one of those things that honestly till you try it you probably won’t believe it. And just about any Korean bran facial cotton is a step up from the ones you get in America, but if you were comparing the American one to these five layer cottons, its like going to a fast food restaurant versus a five-star fine dining restaurant. No comparison really. The quality is better. No lint at all on these five layer cottons. And each cotton can be pulled apart and used as two separate cottons. So it’s really like getting 80 in this box. No way can you do that with any American facial cotton I have ever tried. Once you have tried these, you will never want to go back.

So tell me in the comments, did I list your favorite beauty tool or accessory? What did I miss? Share with us all your must have items.

Product Review – Orange Collagen Skin Treatment Face Mask By iBeautyLabs

orange collagen mask from iBeautyLabs

orange collagen mask from iBeautyLabs

I recently tried the Orange Collagen Skin Treatment Face Mask By iBeautyLabs. It was sold to me at a discounted price for review purposes. I was asked not to show you the actual packaging it came in because they are in the process of changing it and would not be relevant by the time anyone else may order it.

Orange Collagen Mask from iBeautyLabs

This is how it looks when you take it out of the package. It looks very similar to your average Hydrogel mask, with the smooth gel like fabric and it comes in a tray with liquid essence covering it. But that is really where the similarities stop.

When I first picked the mask up to put it on, the first thing I noticed was how thick the mask was. I think it was close to being twice as thick as any of the hyrodgel masks I have tried previously. I didn’t mind the thickness as far as the feel, but I do think it affected how it behaved on my skin. Typically I would expect a mask to adhere to my face within 20 to 30 seconds of application. However, I never could get this mask to actually stick to my skin.

Collagen Mask with my mask cover over it.

So in order to even take a picture with the mask on I had to put my Silicon Mask Cover
on with it. If you are unfamiliar with mask covers you can check out my review on the one I have here. Even with the mask cover on, you can see that it was still slipping down. I also found the eye and mouth slits were way too little for me, so I had to tear them a bit to wear it comfortably.

Laying down and having a mask cover on was the only way to keep the collagen mask in place.

This last picture is with me laying pack in my recliner. I adjusted the mask as much as I could, and it was torn by the mouth and eyes in this picture. It still felt like it kept sliding down. The fit was just not good for me.

I did really like the feel of the mask itself. Like I said it was very similar to a hydrogel, but something was a little different. It definitely held moisture well. However, it did not have the typical cooling sensation I usually get with a hydrogel mask.

The directions tell you to wear the mask 25 to 30 minutes. I was about 5 minutes in when it started feeling a burning sensation, and I ultimately had to take it off. You all know how sensitive my skin is due to my allergy to Balsam of Peru, so I wanted to be careful. I really think this was more of a me thing than a product thing. Though honestly its impossible for me to know for sure, I can’t seem to find an ingredient list on their product page.

I would rate this mask a 2 out of 5 stars. It definitely had a couple of positive points, but overall just didn’t work for me personally.

If you are interested in trying this mask out for yourself you can find it on iBeautyLabs Amazon product page.

All About Double Cleansing – Memebox Blog

Source: All About Double Cleansing – Memebox Blog

All About Double Cleansing

What it is: Double cleansing refers to using an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup, oil, and sunscreen, then cleansing again with a water-based cleanser to remove sweat and dirt.

Double cleansing just might be the best thing you can do for your skin  If you’re using some form of makeup remover in conjunction with a cleanser each night, you’re already on your way!

Here’s why you need to start ASAP:

  • Makeup and sunscreen that’s left on the skin can:
    • clog your pores and cause acne breakouts
    • cause irritations
    • cause discoloration
    • turn into a breeding ground for bacteria
  • The rest of your skincare routine is, dare we say, useless without a clean canvas!
  • Your makeup remover wipes are just pushing the dirt around.

You should be double cleansing if you wear sunscreen (so everyone, right?), wear makeup, live/work in the city, or you get oily throughout the day.

If your skin type is normal, you wear no makeup at all, and you rarely venture outdoors, you’ll probably be alright with some water

Step One:

Makeup remover wipes are great for on the go and certainly can be used to take off some eye and lip makeup, but for the most part, you’ll want to ditch them or follow up with an oil cleanser. A wipe might just sweep the surface but an oil cleanser can dig deep into the pores to clear out everything!

062617_June_HP_DoubleCleanse_Blog4.jpgOil-based cleansers dissolved oil-based impurities on the skin. This includes sunscreen, makeup (including waterproof makeup), and oils produced by your pores.

Cleansing oils are very watery, but gentle on the skin. Cleansing balms are solid (aka travel-friendly) and more heavy-duty.

For both, you’ll want to apply to dry skin. Gently massage the product onto your skin in circular motions. You can safely use oil cleansers on your eyes as long as it doesn’t trickle in. Don’t forget to take the product below your jawline where there may be foundation

To remove, just rinse off with lukewarm water until it runs clear and move onto Step 2!

Some Recommendations: Banila Co. Clean It Zero / nooni Snowflake Jelly Cleansing Oil / The Face Shop Rice Water Bright – Light Cleansing Oil / illi Total Aging Care Cleansing Oil

Step Two:

Water-based cleansers dissolve water-based impurities, such as sweat, dirt, and leftover residue from step one.

062617_June_HP_DoubleCleanse_Blog3.jpg

For this step, it’s important you pick a cleanser  that will clean without drying out your skin. A squeaky clean canvas is not good and a stripping cleanser can pull too much moisture away. Before trying out a new cleanser, check its pH level (with something like this). You want something with a pH lower than 5.5.

  • Foam Cleansers – These tend to be most stripping, but also the most popular because of the “clean, bubbly” foam. They’re very gentle on the skin as long as you pick on that’s low on the pH scale!
  • Gel Cleansers – These don’t sud up as much, but they do clean well. They’re also refreshing on the skin because of the gel texture.
  • Powder Cleansers – These are the most travel-friendly as they aren’t liquid at all. To use, just add water to create a nice lather. You’ll get a gentle exfoliation out of it too!

88386676.jpg

You’ll want to lather the product up on wet skin and rinse off with lukewarm water. When rinsing, splash water gently on your face so you’re not rubbing! Pat your skin dry with a towel and you’re all done

Some Recommendations: Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser / Su:m37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick / Banila Co. Clean It Zero Foam Cleanser

Where does cleansing water fit?

Let’s be real- cleansing waters will not replace your cleansing oil or balm. They’re great if you want to clear off some sweat after a workout or remove some makeup prior to cleansing, but that’s all they should be expect to do.

TL;DR

  • Start double-cleansing.
  • Oil-based cleansers remove makeup and sunscreen. Water-based cleansers remove dirt and sweat.
  • Liquid oil cleansers are messy but good for sensitive and dry skin. Solid balm cleansers are best for removing makeup and traveling.
  • Massage oil-based cleansers on dry skin and water-based cleansers on wet skin.
  • Don’t worry about the oiliness of your first step cleanser- that’ll wash away with your second cleanser!
  • Definitely double cleanse at night, but it’s not necessary to do so in the morning as well. You can use your second-step cleanser or skip it altogether and just rinse with water.

Product Review – Maybelline Great Lash Mascara in Royal Blue

Maybelline Great Lash Blue VoxBox

Maybelline Great Lash Blue VoxBox

Influenster recently sent the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara in Royal Blue to me for free in a VoxBox for testing. I also received the Maybelline Unstoppable Mechanical Eyeliner Pencil, but for the purpose of this review I will only be talking about the Mascara.

I was really happy to find out that I was receiving this Mascara. I actually had been wanting to try a blue mascara and was about to go purchase one, so it was certainly convenient timing. It arrived it super cute packaging. It was certainly the cutest packaging out of all of the vox boxes I have ever had. And seriously, who isn’t a sucker for cute packaging?

Maybelline Great Lash Blue VoxBox

I will say up front that overall I just don’t think this product works for me. That’s not saying its a bad product or that it won’t work for someone else, but it didn’t work well for me. It did have some good points, but they were outweighed by the bad.

Here is what I liked about it:

I loved the rubber brush and its shorter bristles.

I also really loved the brilliant blue color of the product.

Here is what I didn’t like:

The formula was extremely runny. It was so runny that several times I ended up getting it in my eye.

It isn’t water proof. This is not normally a big deal for me. One of my favorite mascaras is not water proof, but this only took a tiny drop of water and I had runny blue mascara everywhere.

While I loved the color that was in the bottle, it did not show on my own lashes even with several coats. I tried it several different ways, and even with primers the best I could hope for is that you would catch a hint of blue. You will see better what I am talking about in the various pictures below.

Close Up of my eyelashes before and after application ofthe Great Lash Blue Mascara

I wanted to include at least one close up of the before and after application of the Great Lash Mascara. The after is with three coats of mascara, which is what I typically would do with the average mascara I would use. I just didn’t feel it covered my eyelashes well enough.  But I did try using more in some of the looks I did.

I did see pictures of other people who had vibrant blue on their lashes. Most of them had lighter hair color than me, so I have to wonder if that played a part in it even with the primers. I also saw some who had vibrant blue eyelashes, but their eyelashes looked horrific and cakey. You just knew that in order to achieve that look they did 10+ coats.

I can speculate as to why this didn’t work for me and did for others all I want, but at the end of the day all I can do is go on how it worked for me. And honestly I would never feel comfortable recommending this to someone else. But if you want to try a Maybelline product that I would highly recommend, take look at my review of the Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Lipstick.

If you are interested in finding out more about what products I used in my makeup looks, make sure to follow me on Instagram. All of these pictures have been posted there already. I always try to include a list of products used on my Instagram feed.

Tell me in the comments below if you have tried the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara. Did you try the original or this Royal Blue color? What did you think?

Product Review – Five Piece Makeup Sponge Set by Fairyland

Silicone sponge from Fairyland

Over the last couple of weeks I have been trying out some new makeup sponges. What I have been trying is the five piece set from Fairyland. In this set you receive three blending sponged and two of the new silicone sponges. And this is currently selling for $16.99 on Amazon.

Blender sponge and silicone sponge still in their plastic pack from fairyland

As you can see they were each sent in individual resealable bags. I thought this was a nice that they were individually wrapped like this. It makes it convenient to travel with too. I think most of you are familiar with how to use a blending sponge at this point, so most of this review is going to focus on the silicone sponge and how to best use it.

Blender sponge from fairyland

First let me tell you briefly about the sponge blender that was included in the set. As I said you get three of them in this set from Fairyland. This is not the name brand Beauty Blender, let me point that out just in case anyone was confused. It is the same color and similar shape and size. As far as softness goes on initial use it was very stiff. However, Fairyland mentions on their Amazon page that they soften up after initial use if you wet them. I can honestly say they have gotten a little softer each time I have used them. I still don’t think I would say it’s quite as soft as the name brand, but it is close after four uses. Application is as you would expect with a blending sponge. I think overall for the price this is a great alternative.

Silicone sponge from Fairyland

I felt like since the silicone sponge was so new on the market there was a bit of a learning curve for me. I certainly had heard a lot about it, and had seen some mini clips of people using it. However I did not want to go watch any tutorials or reviews until after I tried it myself a time or two.

I made this short video demonstrating how to use the silicone sponge. Forgive the weird makeup faces, you know you do it too.

Over the last couple of weeks I had the time to experiment with the silicone sponge quite a bit. I tried it with different foundations and under different circumstances and I think I have some tips that may help you out.

Do’s

  •  Use with matte and satin finish foundations
  •  Apply makeup in small amounts a little at a time directly to the silicone sponge
  •  Apply using a circular motion to spread the makeup on your face
  •  Use a patting motion to blend after you makeup is on
  •  Use a primer for your best results

Don’ts

  •  Use this with a dewy finish foundation.
  •  Use this if you have put on face oil prior to applying foundation
  •  Mix oil with you foundation you are applying

Overall I will say, I think this is probably going to be a better tool for people who have normal to oily skin. If you have dry skin you can still make it work like I did if you are using a satin finish foundation and are not adding any face oil to the mix.

The first couple of times I tried the silicone sponge out I had tried it with my current favorite foundations and it didn’t turn out well. I wasn’t sure if I was doing something wrong or what. That’s when I started watching other people and noticed the difference between who was having success and who wasn’t. My current foundations are very dewy finishes with oils in them. So the one you see me using in the video is a Satin finish.

My finished makeup after using the silicone sponge from Fairland

This is how my completed makeup turned out after the video. I thought it did do a wonderful job with the satin finish foundation. You may still need to use a blending sponge or your fingers to get around the crevices of your nose or around your eyes after application. And the big selling feature I think everyone is after with the silicone sponge, using less product. I can honestly say, yes I was able to use less product and get more coverage while using the silicone sponge.

If you are interested in trying this for yourself you can find this set through Fairyland’s Amazon page.

The set used for this review was sold to me at a discount for review purposes, however all opinions expressed are my own.

Tell me in the comments below if you have tried the silicone sponge yet, and what you thought about it

Top Ten – Lip Balms, Oils, and Treatments

Top ten lip balms, oils, and tretments

Top ten lip balms, oils, and tretments

Welcome to the second list in this series. If you missed the first one and want to check it out, it was my Top Ten – Liquid Foundations and BB Creams For Dry and/or Textured Skin. I will always try to link the previous list at the top of the page so there is a way to go back and check them all out.

These are in no specific order. It is just a list of ten favorites.

1. Wild Rose Herbs – Catnip Natural Lip Balm

Wild Rose Catnip Natural Lip Balm

I first got to try this Catnip lip balm from Wild Rose Herbs when I was getting the Cat Lady Box subscription. It really is an amazing lip balm, that I just recently finished using. I plan on repurchasing along with some of their other products I want to try. Their lip balms are all natural, GMO free, vegetarian, and cruelty free. And if there is any doubt about this containing real catnip, just put some on while around your cat. Aggressive cat kisses may ensue.

2. Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask

This lip mask from Bite beauty is essentially like thick moisturizer made for your lips. You can use it day or night, but my favorite way to use it is to put it on right before I got to sleep and let some moisture sink into my lips.

3. Alba Botanica Hawaiian Pineapple Quench Lip Balm

Alba Botanica Hawaiian Pineapple Quench Lip Balm

This particular scent/flavor can be difficult to find certain times of the year, but it is worth it. Very moisturizing with several oils in it. Every time you apply it feels like a little bit of summer on your lips.

4. Alba Botanica Coconut Cream Lip Balm

Alba Botanica Coconut Cream Lip Balm

The coconut cream scent/flavor from Alba is easier to find at your local pharmacies and stores year round than the previous one mentioned. I don’t find this variety to be quite as moisturizing feeling, but its close. And since I can find it in a pinch its nice to have.

5. Lancome Juicy Shaker

Lancome Juicy Shaker

The Lacome Juicy Shakers look like something from Korea, and work as well too. The all too cute packaging is meant to look like a cocktail shaker, get it – Juicy Shaker. Don’t let the cutesy packaging fool you into thinking this isn’t a serious product. It is by far one of the best lip oils I have ever tried. While many of the other come across like a slightly oily lip gloss, the Juicy Shakers are all oil with a slight tint to them. Super hydrating and very healing feeling. I have several already. Just don’t expect much color out of the lighter tones.

6. e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator elf lip exfoliator original

If you just need a little something to help take the dead skin off your lips and you don’t want to break the bank to do it, this lip exfoliator from elf is what you want. Its smells and feels just like the brown sugar lip scrub you can make home made (There are hundreds of recipes on Pinterest). Only this one is way more convenient and less messy. And because it is elf, it’s totally affordable and easy to find both online and in stores.

7. Fresh Sugar Lip Serum Advanced Therapy

Fresh Sugar Lip Serum Advanced Therapy

This lip serum from Fresh is a great quick fix when you have some mild texture on your lips and you want to smooth them out before applying a lipstick. I wouldn’t use this on extremely chapped lips, at least not for a last minute fix.

8. Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment and Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15

Fresh Sugar Lip Collection

Another great product from Fresh is the Lip Treatments, which are essentially their version of a lip balm. But these aren’t any regular lip balm. No matter whether you are getting the clear advanced treatment or one of the tinted treatments with SPF, they all go on feeling like butter.

9. Kaplan MD Lip 20 Mask

Kaplan MD Lip 20 Mask

If I had to pick a favorite off of the whole list, this Lip Mask from Kaplan MD would be it. Even though it is the priciest item on the list, it by all means is worth the price tag. I have only gotten to try this and the next item on the list a few times from a sample, but that was enough to convince me to order it now. I have struggled with severely chapped lips and a lot texture for many years. That is  really hard to deal with for someone like me who is a lipstick junkie. This is the one and only product that not only help with the texture, it completely smoothed my lips and left them that way for several days after. I feel like calling it a mask is a little odd though. Its nothing like the agave lip mask from Bite Beauty where you leave it on. This you have to time and take it back off, then follow with the next product.

10. Kaplan MD Lip 20 Balm Ultra Hydrating Treatment +SPF

Kaplan MD Lip 20 Balm Ultra Hydrating Treatment +SPF

This is the lip balm and follow up product from Kaplan MD. I have only tried using the two products together since that is how they recommend using it, and I had them perfectly portioned together in a sample. But it certainly did feel amazing on the lips. This is also slightly on the pricey side like the lip mask, but worth it. If you find it hard to invest in these two products without trying first they do offer a smaller travel version sold together at Sephora for significantly less. You can find that here.

Please remember to not take these list too seriously. This is just one persons opinion, and its based on my personal experiences. If the products you love don’t make my list it is not a personal attack against those products. I would love to hear in the comments below what your favorite lip product is.

Product Review – Sela Pore Cleaner

Sela Pore Cleaner

I recently got the Sela Pore Cleaner to try out. You may not be familiar with the name, but you may have seen a video of a similar product going around social media. The video shows a woman using a pore cleaner on her nose and it suctioning all sorts of white heads and black heads, and just all the leftover junk you don’t want in your pores.

Ever since I saw that video I have been a little obsessed with the idea of getting one, but I also knew that if I was going to spend the money on a pore cleaner it had to meet certain criteria. Here is what I was looking for:

  • Cordless
  • Rechargeable
  • Easy to clean
  • Easy to use

The one from Sela really hit all those marks for me. So when I was given the chance to purchase it at a discount for review purposes I jumped at the chance.

It came in packaged nicely, no worries about it being damaged during shipping.

Sela Pore Cleaner

And here is what you get with it:

  • 1 Pore cleaning unit
  • 4 Tips
  • 1 Charging cable
  • 1 Instruction manual
  • Pack of replacement rings
  • Pack of replacement filters

Everything that comes with the Sela Pore Cleaner

They give you a few tips of things to do before you use it for the first time. Here is what they suggest:

  • For the first time to use the tool, please apply it on the hand or neck to adapt to the operating and suctioning.
  • Please clean the nozzle before and after use.
  • For best results, we recommend you treat your skin with facial steamer or heated towel for 3~5 minutes that helps to open the pores before removing the blackhead.
  • Our product has a stronger suction than other’s, so please DO NOT keeping or staying the nozzle on the skin for long time, just move it around gently, otherwise it may hurt the skin or leave bruise.
  • After the treatment, use the iced facial sheet mask or cold water to calm the skin and close the pores, in order to avoid infection please do not touch the skin with your hands.
  •  DO NOT use the tool on same place too much, up to once per week. Please stop using the tool if any adverse reactions occur.

So I actually tested the pore cleaner out a couple of times. I decided to try it once as instructed and once without the steam to open my pores. I wanted to see how much of a difference that part would make. I only used two of the tips, the small round tip and the thin oval tip.

Here is just a short video clip of me using the actual pore cleaner. This is from the time I used the steam prior to use.

As you can see in the video there is quite a bit of suction, and that is not even the highest setting. I did get something out of my pores both times, but both times were about the same amount. And it wasn’t much, at least not like what is shown in the video I referenced earlier. Now my thought for this is that 1. I have dry skin that isn’t super prone to acne. and 2. I do double cleanse (sometimes triple cleanse) and doing the 8 step Korean skin care routine every night, it probably doesn’t leave me with a huge amount to clean out of my pores like most people would have.

I also washed my face before using this, who know what happened in the video that is floating around. I did get things out of my pores, so I know it worked. I feel like I want to keep playing around with this. I definitely want to try out the tip that is for microdermabrasion on myself. And I would like to see if one my oily skin, acne prone friend will let me experiment on them a bit.

Once I have had more time to experiment I will either do anther blog post or talk about it on one of my social media accounts. If you would like to try this yourself, you can find the Sela Pore Cleaner on Amazon. It sells for $49.99, and if you want one I suggest getting it soon as they don’t have many left.

Tell me in the comments below if you have tried one of these pore cleaners before. If so, which one did you buy?
