It’s A Giveaway! Come Win A Gift Card to Plus Size Clothing Retailer City Chic

giveaway with ity chic online

giveaway with ity chic online

Welcome back everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. I personally worked a lot this weekend, but I was still able to sneak some time in with friends and family.

Everyone knows how much I love a giveaway here on my blog. This giveaway though is something extra special and very dear to my heart for a few reasons. First, this is the first clothing giveaway I have done here on the blog with a strictly plus size store. Second, I couldn’t be happier to say that it’s with City Chic. I have said many times they are one of my favorite plus size stores to shop and how I love their customer service. And to top it all off they are being super generous and are giving two of you dear readers $250 gift vouchers.

I have shared a lot of looks from City Chic over the last few years. As a matter of fact if you have been following my #AllDressApril journey, then you know that I also have shared a few this month. And I have a few more planned for later this month too, so keep watching for great ideas of what to purchase from City Chic. But I thought instead of making you search through all of my posts looking for City Chic pieces, I put together a little lookbook for you to see here.

This is really just the tip of the iceberg of what I have from City Chic. And I will be showing much more this month on my Instagram for #AllDressApril. So if you want to see what other dresses from City Chic look like on a plus size body, make sure you check out my Instagram feed.

A Few Notes About Entering The Giveaway:
Please note that the giveaway is open to US and Canada residents only.

The first three entries are required, if you do not complete all of the first three entries (and they must be done correctly) you will not be entered in the giveaway. All other entries are optional but will give you extra chances to win.

There will be a couple of extra entry options added a couple of days after the giveaway begins as well as options to Tweet every day. So if you are seeing this on the first day, make sure you check back for extra entries.

In the past people have been confused about where to leave the blog comment. You must leave it in the comment section on the actual blog post (not one of the pages the blog feed appears on). Also the Rafflecopter box is not where you comment, you must scroll to the bottom of the blog post to find the comment section. In the Rafflecopter box you only need to post done or your name or something so that it counts you as posting a comment.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Last day to enter will be 4/30/17. Winners will be announced on various social media accounts as well as here on the Rafflecopter box on 5/1/17. Winners will have 48 hours to claim their prize. If winners do not claim their prizes within 48 hours a new winner or winners will be drawn.

Prizes will be distributed by City Chic.

Good Luck Everyone!

Inside The Dressing Room – Cato Fashions Summer 2016

Inside thedressing room with My Plus Size Life

Inside thedressing room with My Plus Size Life

Time for another visit with me inside the dressing room. I previously visited Lovesick and Forever 21. This time you will be going with me to Cato Fashions.

I realize there may be some people out there who are not familiar with Catos, but they are growing and I was really happy to learn recently that they now have a website. So now I can finally share their items with all of you.

A little history of my experience with them. I grew up in a very rural area of Kentucky, a town so small that most of you probably would not be able to comprehend how small it is. This town literally to this day still only has one stop sign and a post office. Over the years its occasionally had a gas station/convenience store, but they never last long. So this meant that we had to travel to the next town of size to shop for clothing and other items (approximately a 25 mile trip one way). I have almost always been plus size, and so even in the largest towns in Kentucky shopping was limited for me. However the town we went to shop most often was not the largest. This meant that I had three choices to choose from. Up until I was about 12 the three choices were a place called Hills, JC Penny, and Cato. Hills was like a Wal-Mart but with less selection (After I was 12, Hills closed and Wal-Mart took its place). JC Penny at that time rarely offered anything but grandmother styles in plus sizes. And then there was Cato. It was the one saving grace. They sell both misses and plus sizes, but often items are offered on both sides. They usually offer trendy pieces. And best of all they are usually quite affordable compared to other plus size retailers. All of those things still hold true to this day.

So without further ado, I am very excited to share these with you guys. I hope it helps some of you on a budget find a new place to shop. As always I will remind you I typically wear 2X or 20 at both Torrid and Lane Bryant. And I wear a 40DDD bra. I can tell you everything I tried on at Cato was either a 2X or 20W. They do run true to size and always have.

Plus Size Boho Pants from Cato Fashions

Top: Pom Pom Trim Flutter Sleeve Top-Plus in Navajo Blue

Available in 18/20 to 26/28. $17.99

Pants: Scroll Print Smocked Palazzo Pants-Plus

Available in 14/16 to 26/28. Was $21.99 now $15.99.

I did end up purchasing both of these pieces. The pants were very comfortable and lightweight. The shirt fit well as well, and it fit well with many of the items I was trying.

Cato Fashions Plus Size Short Outfit

Top: See Above

Shorts: Tasseled Geo-Tribal Soft Shorts-Plus

Available in a 14/16 to 26/28. Was $15.99, now $6.99

I also purchased these shorts. They also were very comfortable. And as you can see they went well with the same top.

Cato Fashions plus size shorts outfit

Top: See Above

 Shorts: Bordered Geometric Soft Shorts-Plus

Available in 14/16 to 26/28. Was $15.99 now $11.99.

Another pair that went with the same top. They also were so comfortable. All of these have come in handy so far with the kind of heat we have been having.

Cato Fashions Plus Size Outfit Shorts and Top

Top: Crochet Sleeve Sharkbite Top-Plus in Red Ochre

Available in 18/20 to 26/28. $19.99

 Shorts: Mixed Stripe Soft Shorts-Plus

Available in 14/16 to 26/28. Was $15.99 now $11.99.

This is where my luck run out a bit with what I tried on. The top did fit and it was comfortable, but I did not like the way that it looked on my body shape. I think it would look better on someone who is either and apple shape or inverted triangle. And this pair of shorts were a little more snug than the others. Just not a comfortable fit for me.

Plus Size Outfit frm Cato Fashions

Top: See above

Shorts: Patchwork Print Soft Shorts-Plus

Available in 14/16 to 26/28. Was $15.99 now $9.99.

I had the same issue with these shorts. Just not a good fit for me. I was a little disappointed because I loved the print.

Plus Size Dress from Cato Fashions

Dress: Perforated Abstract Stripe Maxi Dress-Plus

Available in 14/16 to 26/28. $39.99

This dress fit well, but it was very warm fabric. If I lived somewhere that is cooler in the summer, I would have totally bought this. But not for temperatures over 75 degrees.

Plus Size Skirt from Cato Fashions

Top: Essential Tunic Tank Top-Plus in Paradise Orange

Available in 14/16 to 22/24. Was $9.99 now 6.99.

Skirt: Mixed Chevron Stretch Mesh Maxi Skirt-Plus

Available in a 14/16 to 26/28. $24.99

I loved this skirt. Probably going to save it more for fall. The top I was not crazy about, the length just wasn’t right for me.

Denim shorts from Cato Fashions

Top: Lace Up Side Layered Tank-Plus

Available in 14/16 to 26/28. $21.99

Shorts: Embellished Pocket Jean Shorts-Plusg

Available in size 16W to 26W. Was $21.99 now $15.99.

There were elements of this I loved. The top had some really cool details that you can see way better if you visit the link, but I just didn’t think it looked right on my body. And the shorts not a good fit, but were really cute. Being the shape I am its hard to find denim shorts that don’t leave a huge gap at the waist in the back. That not cute, but that big booty girl problems. What are you going to do?

This has been another look in the dressing room with me. Cato Fashions are located in 32 states. If you want to go try some on for yourself you can check their Store Locator to find the closest store to you.

I want to see what you have tried on at Cato Fashions and other stores I visit, just tag your pictures on social media with the hashtag #ITDRwithMyPlusSizeLife . Let me know in the comments where you want me to go next, and if I can I will.

Getting Catty With Torrid – An OOTD And Mini Review

Outfit from Torrid

I don’t often do button up blouses, but when I saw this Cat Print Chiffon Ruffle Top from Torrid I had to have it (because you know, crazy cat lady).

With it I am wearing the Noir Collection All-Nighter Pant – Slim Fix Pixie, also from Torrid. And my shoes are Rumblers – Sci Fi Wedge Sandles from Skechers.

I made sure to snap a picture up close of the fabric so you can see what the print looks like.

Close up of the Cat Print Top From Torrid.

You can see that what from a distance just loos like polka dots is actually little cat faces with whiskers.

Torrid Plus Size Outfit Of The Day

And of course the cats had to get in the pictures too.

My thoughts on the top are overall really good. I was pleasantly surprised that despite my DDD chest I did not have any gaping between the buttons. The print was really cute. I love the color. The fit outside of the chest was great. I got stopped a lot and complimented on it. The one and only complaint I had was that it is so shear I had no choice but to wear a cami with it. I don’t mind shear with certain things and certain types of shirts. But since this felt like a slightly more business type top (even though it had a cute print), it just felt like it should have been more opaque.

Has anyone else tried this top? What were your thoughts?

Looks From Week Two Of #AllDressApril

All Dress April

12938326_10100392683521412_5163653629107190284_n

This is a summary of the looks I wore during week two of the fashion challenge called All Dress April. You can see the original post about the challenge Here or check out The Looks From Week One.

Sorry I am so behind on these guys. I thought I would have more time on vacation to blog, but as it turned out I really had no time to myself at all. We were all go all the time two weekends straight in a row, with only a couple of days in between. But I am in the process of catching things up, I have a couple of other blog post that will be going up in the next couple of days.

On with the Dresses from week two. As with last time I will link anything that is still available to purchase, or alternatively anything I feel is a close alternative from the brand.

Day 8

Look For Day 8 of All Dress AprilWe had a very sudden and drastic cold spurt hit us. We went from 80 to 40 overnight. I really had to pull things out of my closet an throw it together as I don’t have a lot of cold weather dresses and skirts.

Both the cardigan and top are from City Chic. The cardigan is no longer available, however the top is still available in a couple of colors. It is available in a red called Siren and a very very light gray called Slate.

The skirt and leggings are from Torrid. The leggings are no longer available, but they have a pair of open skin leggings that would work for the same kind of idea. They have the Skull Open Stitch Leggings. And this isn’t the same Denim Skirt, but it is very similar.

The shoes are Skechers. They are the Relaxed Fit: Savvy – Dressed Up. If you are like me and float between a C and D width and have a hard time finding flats to fit you because of that, I highly recommend you check out Sketchers line of shoes. Plus they have the added benefit of being super comfy with memory foam insoles.

Day 9

Steampunk Look from Day 9 of All Dress April

This was from the first day of the 2016 International Steampunk Symposium. I am still working on this costume a bit, but getting close to where I want it. Lets start from the shoes up.

Boots are from Steve Madden Troopa Boots. These are the original ones that fold over and snap in different positions. They are no longer available retail that I know of, but the other versions can be found on places like Amazon.

I am wearing three skirts in this picture. They are layered and all different lengths. The longest one is a dark chocolate brown and it is from Dressbarn. The next longest is black and it is from a brand called Magic. You can find this brand in various places, I know they sometimes sell it on ModCloth. The third and shortest skirt is also black but muli-layered and it is from Torrid. Unfortunately none of these skirts are still available, and I don’t really see anything similar available.

The bronze body suit is from Fashion to Figure, and it is no longer available, nor do they have anything similar.

The corset is from Daisy Corsets. I bought mine on Zulily. I have a post coming up soon specifically about the con, I will try and add other possible options of where to buy them when I post that one.

The accessories will be covered in the post about the con, so look for that post if you are into steampunk, cosplay, or just love costuming.

Day 10

Steampunk look for Day 10 of All Dress April

This was the second, and last, day we were at the International Steampunk Symposium. If you have followed my blog for anytime, you may remember most of this outfit from last years trip to the con. Rather than link everything for this one, you can check out last years post Plus Size Steampunk Fashion – Or How I Became A Unicorn Queen if you are interested in how to get any of these items.

The only thing that has really changed in this costume is the corset. This one is also from Daisy corsets, and like the last one I got it from Zulily. I will also give more info on my upcoming post.

The lace top: Spindoctor

Skirt: Hips and Curves

Shoes: (even though you can’t see it here) Hush Puppies

Day 11

I had another down day and had to skip wearing a dress this day.

Day 12

Look for Day 12 of All Dress April

This was another of those super casual days for me where I was just running errands.

This is a maxi dress from eShakti a couple of years ago. I haven’t seen this design pop back up, though I don’t check their site that often. But I snagged it super cheap off the clearance rack because it was a return item.

Day 13

Had a second day this time I did not do a dress. I was busy packing to leave again.

Day 14

2016-04-14 19.25.29

We were on the road to vacation. So this was another comfortable maxi dress day for me. This one is from One World. I got this one a couple of years ago. They are sold a lot of places where I live. I know Macy’s carries this brand though. And while its too late to get this exact design, this brand always has comfortable maxis and similar designs with various vivid colors.

Check In With A Plus Size OOTD Featuring City Chic

Its been a couple of weeks since I have posted again. Unfortunately life keeps happening to me. I have been sick, as well as going to court with a friend. And trying to get back to work. But amidst this crazy mess, on one of my days heading out I managed to snap a selfie in my hallway mirror.

If you have been following me on Instagram, then you probably have already seen these pictures, but I wanted to share with everyone where I got the sweater and some of the details about it. Also, if your not already following me on Instagram you totally should. I have been trying to share fun pictures past and present of my outfits, daily life, pets, makeup, and the wacky Korean sheet masks that I try sometimes. You can find me there as my_plussize_life.

2016-02-17 18.01.43 2016-02-17 18.02.31

This is something I have worn the handful of times that it has turned really chilly here in Kentucky this winter. First let me cover the basic part that I am not really going to talk about in detail. The jeans are from a few years back from Seven7, I think I bought them at Lane Bryant. The tee under the jacket, was a plain black tee, also from Lane Bryant.

Now, the real focus of the post, the jacket.

50d5ac52a2e3b77915a5881066198e84

28f12be2dbd459bd5746e03c23edb20a

This is City Chic’s Faux Fur Cardi. I have loved this so much this winter, and I really want to tell you why. I think its obvious it looks very fashionable and chic. I have received compliments from random strangers on it ever time I have worn it. But beyond that it is incredibly warm. It is one of those rare pieces where fashion really does meet function. With having fibromyalgia being cold is a sentence to pain, but sometimes so is wearing layers (It’s complicated like most of life and I will save the details of how that actually works for a day I feel like doing a health post).

And while City Chic calls this a cardi, and it sort of is in the fact that it is a sweater like material anywhere that the faux fur isn’t, it actually wears more like a jacket. So when I bought this I was thinking it was going to be one of those items that I would rarely get to wear because its too bulky to wear under a coat, but not warm enough to keep you warm without and too warm for most any other time(Most years here in KY we only get maybe a week or two of spring and fall like temperatures. Most of the year is spent in extremes of cold winter or hot summer). But it is actually a fantastic find, that I would highly recommend for anyone that has cold winters where they live. Alternatively, if you live somewhere that it rarely drops below forty degrees, this is not the piece of clothing for you. It is warm all on its own. The few times I wore it, I did take my coat with me just in case, but I never needed it. If anything I often found myself getting too hot at times.

Now what you can’t really see in the picture, and I tried taking multiple pictures to try and get it, is my cat earrings. They are black and blend into my hair. I bought mine on ebay. Now I looked, and while I could not find the exact one I had, I did find these:

s-l1600

These are extremely similar to the ones I have, and you can find them on this listing for Black Metal Cat Pierced Wire Earrings Jewelry Lot FP-25.

What is your best winter wear purchase this year? Does anyone know a good place to buy cat earrings?

An Overview Of Plus Size Outfits I Wore In 2015

2015 plus size fashion looks

As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, I am trying to implement a plan that makes it easier for me to post on a more regular schedule thus keeping the blog active. I have been working a lot on the back end portion of that, but I am still trying to put out some posts each week.

But as I was thinking about what I wanted to post I realized that last year I had a lot of pictures laying around of various outfits I didn’t get to blog about. I really wanted to share them. And while a lot of things may no longer be available, some things still are. And even if they are not, someone may find inspiration in the outfits somehow.

I am not going to go into a lot of details on this post. But I will let you know where each piece came from, and anything that is still available I will make sure to link to the item. And please keep in mind, some of these items can still be found in resale places like eBay and the like.

collage

Here is the collage of looks from this past year that I missed talking about. I am going to take these one at a time below and list where each item came from.

My look from Torrid and Easy Spirit

The top left and center picture are obviously the same look except I have on a jacket in this picture, so I am only using this one to cover everything.

The Jacket: This is from Torrid, it is their Military Style Jacket. They no longer have this exact one, but they have one that is very similar called their Fitted Military Jacket.

The Top: Also from Torrid, but nothing similar offered at the moment. Though they do occasionally bring this style back and I have seen similar at other stores.

The Leggings: Yet again from Torrid and no longer available. But Torrid does have a somewhat similar pair available called Plaid Skull Leggings.

The Shoes: These are the Gessica Ballet Flats from Easy Spirit. They are so comfortable, and they are offered from N to WW in width.

2015-02-07 12.58.35

The Cardigan: Sold out in this bright cherry red color, but you can still get the Lace Inset Cardigan in Burgandy or the Lace Inset Cardigan in Gray.

The Top: Also from Torrid. While it was called something different when I got it, you can still get this top. It is now called the Cinch Lace Babydoll Top. Torrid is constantly rereleasing this top in various colors with new names. It is very comfortable and a pretty universally flattering shape. I have this top in at least three colors.

The Pants: Surprise, these are from Torrid. They are the Noir Collection All-Nighter Pant – Slim Fix Pixie Skinny. If you haven’t tried these before you really should. They are like if a pair of Yoga pants and pair of dress pants and pair of spanx had a threesome, and that somehow miraculously produced a child.

The Purse: Is from Steve Madden but is unfortunately no longer available.

The Shoes: They are Cherry Patent Leather Mary Janes from a brand called Madison Comfort. I bought mine on Zulily. I did a quick search and couldn’t fin a website for the company or anywhere else to find them other than used. This brand sells on Zulily pretty frequently, and they are really comfy and offer wide widths. If you are not already a member of Zulily, it cost nothing to sign up, they are just a flash sale sight. In my opinion one of the best especially for plus sizes. Plus sizes are always included every day. You can sign up here.

2015-05-23 13.19.15

The Necklace: Is Betsey Johnson, however it has long been sold out.

The Top and Shorts: Both of these items came from CATO’s. And while they are both sold out, they do have a somewhat similar pair of shorts in a different color. You can find those here.

The Shoe: If you have read any of my previous posts where I wore flip flops, you should know what brand these are by now. There are some rare exceptions to this, but for the most part my flip flops are almost always Flojos. They don’t seem to be selling this purple color anymore, which makes me sad. But you can still get this same style in other colors. They are the Cami Flat Sandal from Flojos .

2015-06-25 17.13.03

Snapped this picture when I first got it in, and ended up wearing it to two cons this past summer.

It is not available at this time, however it has been brought back once already since the original release. Also you can check Torrid, Hot Topic, and Her Universe for other plus size Doctor Who themed clothing.

2015-11-14 14.10.31The Duster: From Torrid it is their Lace Front Button Tunic.

The Top: I got this corset style top, which is the black and red part you see peeking out, at the Avenue last year. They don’t seem to have anything similar this year. But if you wanted a similar look Torrid has this Lace Babydoll Bustier Top .

The Pants: I am wearing those same Noir Collection All-Nighter Pants that I had on with the red top.

The Boots: Again I know you can’t see them, but I have on another pair of something I bought on Zulily. They have great deals on wide calf boots (like seriously you can find some under $30). They even occasionally have double wide calf boots. The ones I have are from the Journey Collection. Check above for the link to sign up.

As always look forward to hearing your feedback and questions.

A Summer Romance With Zelie For She – An OOTD And A Review

As stated in previous post, I have been making concerted efforts to try new brands, styles,…well everything really. And as my valiant effort continues, one of the brands I tried this summer is Zelie for She. If you do not know about Zelie for She, it is a made in the USA plus size designer brand. The designer Elann Zelie makes designs that flatter the a woman’s curves. They are a bit street style meets what’s trendy, always fashion forward. Zelie for She is not for the woman who wants to blend in.

Now I ended up placing two orders for a total of five items, but this comes with a bit of an explanation. In my first order I got the pink one size fits all dress and the teal two piece halter set.

86e316a67675e80ef4837a48d013be70

d9271b1b71661acf898bdf7177383560

I instantly fell in love with the fit and look of the two piece set. However I had an issue with the pink dress that I ended up having to send it back for store credit. I have seen many pictures of other lovely blogger and vloggers wearing that dress. I however was totally confused by it. I tried and I tried, but I just could not figure out how to tie it so that it would fit my body right. No matter what I did I ended up with a massive sag at the chest and a giant bunch of fabric in one or two spots around the waist.

I really hated sending it back. The color and the fabric were so phenomenal. But I did get store credit, so I was able to exchange for something else. So I went for the other style of two piece in the zebra print.

wild child

I haven’t had the opportunity to wear this one yet, but I have tried it on and am extremely happy with the fit. But I have worn the teal two piece and have pictures to share from one of our outings a couple of weeks ago. Don’t be too surprised, we went to another art event of sorts. It was an outdoor play at a local amphitheater.

2015-08-02 19.12.35

They hold a lot of concerts and plays here in the summer. We went to see Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors. At this particular facility they allow you to bring a picnic basket and drinks in. And for seating you can either get actual seats, or for a much more economical price you can bring a blanket and you get a space big enough for four people. We got the blanket spaces and friends got adjoining spaces.  So I thought this would be the perfect time to wear this outfit. When I go somewhere that I will be sitting on the ground, a long skirt is a must. Its hard for me to get up and down due to my back injuries, and I find a long skirt allows me to place my legs in any comfortable way I want and when I get up I don’t have to worry about anything showing.

2015-08-02 18.26.54

2015-08-02 20.12.51

I just threw on some sandals and a headband in a similar shade, as well as some statement earrings. I was going to go with a necklace that matched the earrings, but I found that it really just didn’t work well with this neckline.

On me the top is crop top like. It hit me in a spot that ended up showing just a sliver of belly. I think, based on the other women I have seen wearing this that it really depends on how tall you are as how crop the top is. I am 5’8″and carry most of my height in my torso. I will also say, the skirt is quite long. I had to have it altered for length, which does not happen often to me. They had to take almost three inches off the length in order to keep me from tripping when I walked. To give you an idea of their sizing, I ordered all of my sized pieces in a 3X, and I did feel their size chart was right. I typically wear a 2X or a 20W at Torrid and Lane Bryant. But based on the size charts if you are a 2X at those stores you could go either way, so make sure you pay attention to the size charts before ordering.

With this I did a eyeshadow in a slightly lighter shade with a natural shade lipgloss.

2015-08-02 18.27.19

2015-08-02 18.27.24

I was really pleased with how the whole look turned out.

Now if you have actually visited the Zelie for She website, then you probably know by now that none of these pieces are available for purchase any more. And I am really sorry for the tease, but we have unfortunately had unusually cool weather most of this year a long with way too much rain fall that kept me back from going out the earlier part of the summer. But you will find on the website now the fall prelaunch items. And there are a couple of really special pieces I am already eyeing. And in case you haven’t seen them yet, here is just a little peek at one of the few looks available.

Stripped

So tell me, have you bought from Zelie from She before? Are you a fan, not a fan? Did you get any of the pieces I did, and if so how did you style them? Also, if anyone got one of the one size fits all dresses, can you please tell me what was the trick to making those work?

Its A Tropical Heat Wave With ModCloth

I have always loved tropical prints. So the fact that they are actually in style this year has me over the moon. I have several different ones, though I have tried to make sure that the prints and styles are different. One of my favorites  has been the Take it from the Tropical Dress sold on Modcloth.

8387851fe0efdcc13735e4030ddc32fcI really love the mix of colors in this one, and the fit is great. This dress has way more stretch that the average ModCloth dress. I was able to comfortable fit a 2X like I do at most stores. In a lot of ModCloth dresses I find I have to order the 3X and have it altered to fit. To give you reference, my measurements are B – 49″ W – 43″ and Hips – 54″, and I wear a 2/2X at Torrid and Lane Bryant typically. I still felt like there was a little more room to stretch.

2015-07-11 17.47.33

My husband and I decided to head out on a date night recently.  We went to one of our favorite local wineries. Which if you happen to be in the Central Kentucky area, I can not recommend Wildside Winery enough. They are definitely worth the trip.

2015-07-11 19.12.42

After that my husband and I went to dinner at a local tapas restaurant where we had dinner on their patio. It was nice evening for a stroll.

Here is another shot of me in my dress. I thought I would include this one because it looked like I was having a very zen moment, and it shows off my eye makeup nicely.

Just a tip for anyone who goes to the link looking for this dress. It does look like they are out of stock in most of the sizes, but if you click on the size you need and click the button that says I need it, they are pretty good about restocking if enough people ask.

Who has your favorite tropical print? Have you tried this dress? If so, how did you style it?

Feeling Pretty As A Picture – In ModCloth’s Creative Portrait Dress

ModCloths Creative Portrait Dress in Cat Collage

I love a black and white print, and I love cats(yes, if you haven’t been paying attention, I am a proud crazy cat lady). So when ModCloth released their Creative Portrait Dress in the Cat Collage print I was already sold. (Forgive me for the grimacing face, but the sun was all in my eyes)

ModCloths Creative Portrait Dress in Cat CollageUnfortunately this dress is no longer available, however there are a few other great items available with a similar look. You can try the Start Spreading the Mews Dress, the Traveling Cupcake Truck Dress in Cats, or the South Florida Spree Top in Cats. The dress is a Retrolicious brand dress, so you can also keep an eye out for new ones being released.

I was running kind of late that day, so I didn’t have a lot of time to accessorize. The only things that went with me are my fabulously comfortable wedge sandals from Sketcher. They are the Cali Women’s Rumblers – Sci-Fi Wedge Sandal. They are so comfortable because they have a memory foam footbed and the straps have an amazing amount of stretch.  I also had my Betsy Johnson Pink Butterfly Sunglasses with me. These are no longer available through Betsy Johnson’s site, but the link should take you to Zulily, where they have them for the next few days.

Now back to the dress. Just a few thought and comments I wanted to share with you all about it. I ordered the dress back in late winter/early spring, but between our crazy weather here in Kentucky and just circumstances I did not have a chance to wear it till this particular day a couple of weeks ago. So, yes this was my first time wearing. I was only out for a few hours, and before I could make it home my friend noticed thread hanging on the shoulder. After some inspection, several seams are coming undone to the point I am going to have to take it to have it repaired. This is not from a tight fit or any over wear. If anything this dress is a little too loose. This is the first time I have had a Retrolicious dress, so I am not sure if this is per their normal quality or not.

My other thought is about the belt. While I love the pattern of the dress a lot, I am not crazy about the belt pattern, at least paired with this dress. I think the dress needs a pop of color. So don’t be surprised if you see another post about this dress after I have it fixed. You might see it all styled up with accessories and a different belt.

So I want to hear from you. Does anyone else have this dress? Did you have issues with the seems coming undone? Is this a brand issue or just a fluke?

How I Got Cat Scratch Fever With City Chic

So I didn’t really get cat scratch fever, but I did feel like I was sitting pretty in this Kitty Kat Top from City Chic and my Exclusively Curvy Ariya Jeans.

2015-05-17 19.40.48

This was a super easy and comfortable outfit to throw on for just going over to a friends house for a game night. There is a couple of things I really love about this top. Firs the fabric. I usually try and go for stretchy fabrics to get a comfortable fit, especially if its going to hang down over my hips. I am between an hourglass and pear shape, so my hips are on the wider side and its often hard to find fabrics that are going to comfortably fit both my top and my hips. However City Chic has managed to shape this top so perfectly. And I am also so in love with the print because I whole heartedly admit I am a crazy cat lady. Here is a close up of the top so you can see the print better.

I am wearing a Large or 20 in the top, which is my usual size. I also wear a 20 at Torrid and Lane Bryant for comparison. This top does run true to size

And my crop jeans are a perfect fit. They are the exclusively curvy fit from Ariya Jeans. They are designed lower in the front and have a contoured waistband so there is no gap in the back. I had picked them up at a discount store and was unfamiliar with them previously. The fit for me was great, and I actually had to size down to an 18. I liked to the companies website above, but there isn’t much information available there. So if you want more information on these jeans you can go here for more information where you might be able to buy this brand as well as information on the company.
