Welcome To April

April events

April events

Like it is every year, April will be a busy month for me. I will, first and foremost, be participating once again this year in All Dress April.

All Dress AprilAnd since you should be seeing this post on the third of April, that means the challenge is already under way. I will, as always, be posting weekly recaps of what I wore here on the blog. But if you would like to keep up with me on the daily, make sure you are following me on my Instagram. Or if you would like to see what everyone who is participating is wearing, make sure to follow the hashtag #AllDressApril. While you are at it, why not join in too.

I am also trying to simultaneously participate in my friend Jaime Moore’s (a.k.a. @retrocutie) Instagram style challenge Band Tee Saturday.

Band Tee Saturday

So don’t be surprised if at least a couple of Saturdays are some skirts mixed with graphic tees. Make sure to check out her Instagram feed. She shares a lot of great things for women and moms on a budget. And check out her blog, No Delusions of Grandeur, when you have a chance.

In addition I will also be returning to the International Steampunk Symposium in Cincinnati, Ohio this year.

Steampunk Symposium 2018

The theme this year is superheroes and villains. That will be taking place on April 27 – 29. So the last few days of All Dress April will be filled with steampunk looks (I also have my local group meeting earlier in the month, so there may be an additional look then). And if you are at the event, please feel free to say hi. Also, the location has changed yet again this year, so make sure you check their website for all of the info. If you do plan on going, you can save 10% off your weekend tickets with code: CADUCEUS

I am also really happy my niece is going to join me this year. I have been, and will be, spending extra time with her to help prep her with her costume and makeup. I love getting to spend some quality time with her. She only has one more year till she is in college, and while she isn’t moving away she will be much busier.

In amidst everything I will be doing for the actual month of April, I am actually already starting work on some things for May. I don’t want to say too much right now, but I am trying to put some things together that I think you all will really enjoy.

Tell me in the comments what you have going on for the month of April?

Plus Size OOTD: A Walk On The Wildside

Plus size outfit of the day incorporating animal print.

One trend that has become more and more apart for the winter and on into spring for plus size fashion is animal prints. Whether it be a more traditional animal print or something more abstract they will be here at least for a little while.

I know some people can find animal prints intimidating. So I wanted to make sure and share some looks that incorporate animal prints in various ways. Today I am sharing my first look.

As a fit reminder I wear a size 20W or 2X at most plus size stores like Lane Bryant or Torrid. My measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 43″ Hips: 54″

Plus size outfit of the day incorporating animal print.

The skirt is the Leopard Lover Skirt from City Chic. It is a mini skirt length, but definitely not a super mini. It is a mid weight fabric, perfect for spring in most places, or winter if you live somewhere that doesn’t get very cold. It is available in sizes 14/XS to 24/XXL. I have on the 20/L.

The fit on this was great for me, which coming from City Chic I should not be surprised. I would say if you are an hourglass like me or a pear shape, you should probably order your usual size in this. If you are an apple, then you might want to consider ordering a size up as there is no elastic or stretch to the waist band.

Back of plus size leopard print skirt

The colors in this skirt all stay pretty traditional for a leopard print. However it still has a unique look because it has an added ombre effect.

The exposed zipper and clean lines help keep it looking stylish. The simplicity makes it easy to pair with other items.

Plus size outfit of the day featuring City Chic, Avenue, and Torrid.

I have it paired with the Super Soft Ruffle Cold Shoulder Tee from Torrid. Available in sizes 00 to 6. I have on a size 2. Sizes online are limited now. If your size is no longer available, I think most black tops or sweaters will work with this.

I also have on the Kimberly Over the Knee Wide Width & Wide Calf Boot from the Avenue. They come in sizes 7 to 12, and in two color options. I have them on in a size 9 in black.

Plus size animal print skirt from City Chic

I think this is the perfect outfit for the woman who wants to feel sexy but doesn’t want to go the route of skin-tight clothing or showing a lot of skin. It is a much more subtle sexy.

Let me know in the comments what you think about the animal print trend. Is it for you? If not, what trends do you like right now?

Hidden Gems Of Amazon – Afibi Women Full Length Blending Chiffon Maxi Beach Skirt

Hidden Gems of Amazon

Hidden Gems of Amazon
I actually purchased this skirt much earlier in the year intending to share it with you all when most people would buy warm weather clothing. But as many of you know life and health has hit me hard this year. I considered just not posting since it is so late in the year, but I thought “ya know there are people who live in warmer areas and vacation to warm climates can happen at anytime”. So we proceed with this Amazon hidden gem.

For reference I typically wear a size 20W or 2X at most plus size stores like Torrid or Lane Bryant. I am in a 40 DDD bra. My measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 43″ Hips: 54″ And I am 5′ 8″

Chiffon Maxi Skirt bought on Amazon

This is the Afibi Women Full Length Blending Chiffon Maxi Beach Skirt. It is available in 27 different designs and sizes Small to 3X. I am wearing here design N7 in size 3X.

I ordered the size 3X because they did not have a size chart available, and no one wearing plus sizes had reviewed the skirt at the time I ordered. I thought it was better to play it safe and order the 3X. I felt this fit okay since it had an elastic waist, but I definitely had a few inches of stretch unused. I could have easily went with the 2X. I think you really should be safe ordering whatever your typical size is.

Afibi Women Full Length Blending Chiffon Maxi Beach Skirt

The waist is elastic with a decorative tie. This particular design has peacock feathers at the end of the tie. As the name of the item says, the skirt is made out of chiffon. The chiffon layer is quite thin and delicate. There is a built-in slip, but the slip only comes to about the top of the knees.

Plus size maxi skirt

I decided to pare this with a different top to show you as well. I think that because of the pattern and colors in the skirt you have a lot of options for what you can pair it with.

Typically now is when I would be sharing what I paired with the skirt. But honestly everything I have with it in both looks was either bought at an outlet and no longer available, or it was in my closet for years already. So unfortunately I have no way to direct you to any of those other items.

, Chiffon maxi skirt available in plus sizes on Amazon

This is really one of those skirts that is great to have on hand for summer for those really hot days when you just can’t even. You know the ones I am talking about right? But it would work equally well to take and wear over a bathing suit on the beach for when you need something to wear when you want to walk right off the beach to restaurant.

Tell me in the comments below what color you would pair this skirt with.

Plus Size OOTD: How Do You BOHO?

So the wonderful people over at Simply Be contacted me and asked if I would like to help show some of their clothes to my readers, and I gladly said yes. The great thing about the clothing at Simply Be is that they have something for every style. Whether you go for the most casual of look or you want something more fashion forward Simply Be has it.

They told me to pick something myself from several different categories. Dresses was one of the categories, and since I am a dress girl I concentrated my search there. I had a hard time making a decision because they have so many styles I love. I ultimately wanted to make sure I showed something that a little different from anything I had shown previously, and that they still had fully in stock all sizes. This ultimately led me to this Joe Browns Stunning Maxi Dress .

For reference on sizing, my measurements are bust 49″ waist 42″ hips 54″. I typically wear a size 20 or 2X in most plus size brands. I have made almost all of the pictures clickable in this post so you can see details of the dress or fit more close up.

Joe Browns Plus Size Maxi Dress available at Simply Be

This dress is available in US sizes 8 to 28. I had a hard time deciding on a size because I had heard that this brand runs small. However, this is my usual size 20 that I am showing here, and this is what I thought:

The fit was great, especially in the waist and hips. And if you are on the bustier side, this might be a great dress option for you. I had plenty of extra room there both on the sides and with the adjustable straps. The length was great for me at 5’8″. I think the length is going to work best for anyone 5’6″ to 5’10” (this is just my opinion and may differ based on where you like for your dress to hit), however if you are shorter I really don’t see anything that would prevent you from having this one hemmed.

This does have an interior lining that hits just above the knee on me. There isn’t really any stretch to the fabric, so make sure that you order the size that you need, and not something your counting on stretching to fit. The straps are wide, yes wide enough to wear with a bra.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The pictures do not do this one justice, it is even prettier in person. I love the BOHO style and all the little unique details this dress has. There is a tasseled tie cord at the bust. And embroidery abounds. You have an embroidered bib and two stripes that run parallel down the front of the dress. And in the embroidery there are tiny yellow gold sequins dispersed throughout.

I think one of the great things about the BOHO style, especially with more minimalistic looks like this, you can really accessorize in a lot of different ways. While you might think of boho as being very plain, at the heart of it the boho lifestyle is all about being a free spirit. So why shouldn’t you be free to do what you want and wear what you want with a look like this. So I actually decided to style this dress a couple of different ways.

Joe Brown Stunning Maxi Dress paired with Bear Claws and a Multi-Sac

I kept the same minimalistic makeup for both looks. I also have curls in my hair for both looks, but with this one I kept my hair like I normally wear it with no accoutrement. I paired it with the BareTraps Jeeny sandals, the Reflex Tote from Multi-Sac in the color Hazel, and Flip-up Round Lens Metal Frame Sunglasses. Check out each of the accessories closer up below.

With the second look I still wanted to stay kind of simple, because that is more true to who I am and what I like 80% of the time when it comes to accessories, but I also wanted to do something that read as being a little more glam to me.

BOHO GLAM look with Joe Browns and Simply Be

For this look I stuck with all black and gold accessories. I really wanted to play up the accents of gold from the sequins on the dress. I changed up my hair just a tad. And the only thing I changed about my makeup was the color of lip gloss I had on.

Joe Brown Dress from Simply Be Styled with Urban Expression, Avenue Sandals, and other accessories

For my accessories I added a gold chain headband that came from a three-piece set I got on Amazon just recently. It’s really thin, and you can just barely see it in the picture. But in person it looked great with the dress and gave it a slight 70’s flare. I have on a lace butterfly choker that I have had for a while. The purse is a fold over crossbody bag from Urban Expressions. The shoes are the Sybil sandal from the Avenue’s Cloud Walker line. Check out the close-ups below.

I really think this is a dress that you will not regret adding to your wardrobe. There are so many more ways you could style this dress. And what a great dress for festival wear. And don’t forget to check out all the other great clothes from the Joe Browns line at Simply Be, as well as all the other wonderful brands of dresses. They really do have something for everyone.

Tell me in the comments below how you BOHO. How would you style this dress? Do you prefer a more minimalistic boho, boho glam, boho chic, etc..?

Plus Size OOTD – White & Blue Denim

Plus size outfit of the day

Plus size outfit of the day

One of my favorite trends from this spring and summer has got to be the pairing of white and blue denim. Something about it screams cool. It’s the vacation look you can wear for a staycation.

For reference I am wearing either a size 2 or 20 in all the clothing. My measurements are bust: 49″ waist:42″ hips:56″ And I wear a 40DDD bra. I always try to share my personal measurements and sizing because I want to help you better assess what size you need.

Back view of the plus size ootd

The jeans came from Lovesick (Torrid’s Sister Company) before they closed up this past spring. With the exception of them being a little longer than the average Torrid Jegging, I would say the look, fit, and feel are all the same. Just because of the length, the fit is better for me personally with Torrid. So if you want something that is essentially the same, take a look at White Wash Torrid JeggingPlus size White and Blue Denim outfit.

The cami is Torrid’s Foxi Cami in the navy blue color. If they are out of your size or you don’t like the color, they have lots of other colors that would work well with this look, and they are constantly adding new colors each season. And if this style isn’t for you, they also have other styles of camis that you might like better.

Plus size Torrid outfit with jacket open

The jacket was also from Torrid, however they do not currently have it in stock. It was their Embroidered Gauze Jacket. It’s always possible they would bring it back with enough request, or some of your local stores might still have them in stock.

Here are some alternate options that you might consider to go with this look in place of the jacket:

I wanted to give you some close up looks of the accessories for this look because I feel like they are really what pull this look together.

Denim Blue Livin' Dream Catch Me Sandal

These are Denim Blue Livin’ Dream Catch Me Sandal from Skechers. They are sold out on Skechers’ website. One seller on Amazon still has them in size 10. If that is your size and you want them, you can find those here. However, since 10’s aren’t going to fit everyone, I also found these awesome denim booties from BOBs, Sketchers other line, that would work amazingly with this look. You can find those here.

Denim and white tassel necklace

This is a denim tassel necklace I picked up at TJ Maxx back in the spring. There is no name brand tag on it, so I don’t have a brand or website to steer you towards to get this necklace. I did find a couple of necklaces on Amazon that had a similar look or feel to the. Check out the Boho Layer Tassel Necklace Denim Blues and the Long Tassel Wax Chain Turquoise and Denim Boho Tribal Choker Necklace.

Guess denim barrel bag

Though this wasn’t in the pictures above, this is the handbag that I have to go with this look. It is a Diego Multi-Denim Domed Satchel from Guess. I have had this for a while. The whole line is gone at Guess now, and I couldn’t find this exact purse for you, but I found almost the whole collection for you to check out on Amazon.

Plus Size OOTD – The Dress For Every Body

Society Plus Skater Dress in Marsala

If you are always looking for that perfect dress that looks great on you, look no further than the skater dress. The skater dress is just one of those silhouettes that look good on every body shape and size. So it just comes down to finding a color and fabric selection that you like.

For sizing reference I typically wear a size 2X or 20W at most plus size stores like Lane Bryant and Torrid. My measurements are Bust:49″ Waist:42″ Hips:54″

Society Plus Skater Dress in Marsala

This particular one I am wearing is the Tinley Solid Skater Dress in Marsala from Society Plus. It comes in size 14/16 to 30/32. I am wearing a size 18/20. It is made in the popular scuba fabric, which is also a great fabric for everyone.

Plus size skater dress from Society Plus

The Tinley Solid Skater Dress comes in three color option currently. There is the Marsala, like I am wearing, or there is also black and charcoal as options. But they have many other styles of skater dresses on the Society Plus website, many of which are in their Winter Clearance Event Sale.

Tinley Skater Dress from Society Plus paired with Sketchers

With it I have paired some Relaxed Fit Skechers. The exact ones I am wearing are not available any more, but there are several similar available if you look at the link provided.

I know I show quite a bit of Skechers shoes, and there is a reason for that. I am what I would say is in between a wide width and a medium width. I have a hard time finding shoes because of this, especially flats. I can get my foot in a lot of medium width shoes, but they are usually a little snug and will cause blisters if I push it, or at the very least just be really uncomfortable. I can also wear a lot of wide widths, but they are hard to find where I live. And not all do fit. Some are a touch too big which causes them to slip when I walk. And they cause blisters from rubbing. But Skechers, and a few other brands, just naturally run a little wider than the rest. They always fit me perfect without having to worry about finding a wide width. And a lot of their shoes have a comfort sole, which is a huge bonus.

Skater dresses look great on every body type.

Plus Size OOTD – It’s All About The Midi

Society Plus Midi Skirt and Asos Curve Mock Neck Sweater

Society Plus Midi Skirt and Asos Curve Mock Neck Sweater

I wear all different lengths of skirts, but since I was a very young girl I have always felt that the midi length skirt was the perfect length. There is something about length that just screams femininity to me. So I was sad that for years they just weren’t in style. But for a little over a year now they have made a comeback in a big way.

Here I am wearing the Soiree Midi Skirt from Society Plus. This comes in seven color options. I have on the Navy/Pink Floral option. This particular pattern is sold out in a couple of sizes because all of these skirts have been included in their Winter Clearance sale. However all sizes are available in several of the patterns. The price is great. Originally they were $69.99, now just $28.00. And I believe this is also combinable with the Love Leap event which gives you $15, $35, or $100 off depending on how much you spend. That is potentially 50% off. But the LoveLeap event end at Midnight tonight. (2/15/17)

This plus size Soiree Midi Skirt from Society Plus is made for twirling

This is one of those skirts that are made for twirling. And who doesn’t love a skirt that twirls? I know I certainly do. It has a lot of natural volume to it. You could get even more volume by putting a petticoat under it.

I am wearing a size 18/20. For reference I typically wear a size 20W or 2X at most plus size stores like Torrid and Lane Bryant. My measurements are Bust:49″ Waist:42″ Hips:54″.

ASOS Plus Size New Look Plus Turtleneck Top

I have paired with it a the New Look Plus Turtleneck Top from ASOS. I am wearing a size US 18/UK 22. There is only a couple of sizes left in these. So if they don’t have your size and you want something that will go with it equally as well, you might try the Sheer Luck Long Sleeve Top in Navy from Society Plus.

Graceland Shoes with my Plus Size OOTD

My shoes are a pair of Graceland Shoes. I have had them for several years now, so they are no longer available. But I did find a similar pair, the Graceland Bar Shoes. This brand is reasonably prices and relatively comfortable. One warning though. I do think they run a little small in length, not width. I typically wear a US 9, but in this brand I always have to buy a US 10 or EU 40.

Plus Size OOTD – Jumpsuit 70’s Style

Simply Be Jumpsuit paired with a Worthington Plus Blouse

Simply Be Plus Size Pinafore Jumpsuit

I really love a good jumpsuit. But it is really hard for me to find one that fits me. Most I have tried in recent years (especially from US brands) seem to be only made for women with short torsos. I am always trying to find one with a good fit, so when this one came in and actually fit me comfortably I was ecstatic. This is the Simply Be Wide Leg Pinafore Jumpsuit. It comes in sizes 8 to 22, but they seem to be out of size 22 at the moment. I am wearing a size 20, which is what I typically wear at most traditionally sized plus size brands like Lane Bryant and Torrid. For reference my measurements are Bust:49″ Waist:42″ Hips: 54″. I did have about an 1.5″ of fabric hemmed from the legs.

70's style plus size jumpsuit

I really love the little touches that hint at the seventies, like the pinafore top, the wide flare legs. Even the material feels like the seventies. In addition to those kinds of touches, one of the things I think a lot of people will love is…it has pockets. And I know how much a lot of you ladies love pockets.

Simply Be Jumpsuit paired with a Worthington Plus Blouse

I have it paired with the Worthington Short-Sleeve Tie-Neck Blouse with Pleated Sleeve. They are sold at JC Penny and come in size 0X to 3X. I have on a 2X, and I think it fits true to size. It is no longer available in this red color, but they still have it in a pink. But if you are looking for something in red I think the Worthington Accordian Sleeve V-Neck Bow Blouse would look equally as striking.

Side view of the Simply Be Jumpsuit paired with GAP Platform heels

My shoes are platform heels from GAP. They are no longer available. I think just about any black heels will look good with this outfit. I personally like the wood heel look just because it is another nod to the 70s.

Tell me in the comments below if you would rock a jumpsuit.

Plus Size OOTD – A Tale Of Two Stores

Plus Size City Chic Pelum Top

City CHic Top, Torrid Jeans, and T.U.K. shoes bought on ModCloth

I might have mentioned a time or two in the past there are always two brands that I can count on to consistently fit me, and fit me well. Not only that, but I feel their styles often compliment each other. That probably has a lot to do with why I have so much of both of them in my closet. Now if you have been reading my blog or following any of my social media for a while, there is probably good chance you already know what brands I am talking about. For those of you who are new here or just are not good guessers I will go ahead and tell you I am talking about Torrid and City Chic.

For size reference my measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 42″ Hips:54″ I typically wear either a 2X or 20W at most traditional plus sized stored like Lane Bryant or Torrid.

Plus Size City Chic Pelum Top

I am wearing a faux leather peplum top from City Chic. I purchased it a little over two years ago, so I am sorry to say this is no longer available. I really like peplum tops, but on my body type they are tricky to find ones that fit me in a way that I both like and doesn’t make me look pregnant.

In order for it to fit me the way I like, I have found the peplum either needs to be very structured (like the one I am wearing here) or the complete opposite and be completely soft fabric. Anything in the middle seem to not work on me. Also the placement of the waist band is a big deal. I don’t think I will stop here with the explanation and if I hear from enough of you that you want me to do an actual post about the different types of peplums I will do that.

Plus size outfit of the day

On the bottom I am wearing a pair of Torrid Multi Zip Jegging in weathered black. They don’t have this color anymore, but I think the dark grey looks very similar. You can find those on both Torrid’s Website and on Amazon. I have these jeans in three different colors. You have seen the dark wash in previous pictures. They are my favorite jeans I own. These for some reason do not fit like the other two pairs. These are a lot looser in the booty and the legs.

Shoes are TUK bought on Modcloth

For anyone wondering what I have on with it. The shoes are a pair of TUK heels I purchased on ModCloth a couple of years ago. They don’t have any left, however there are still a few in stock at TUK’s Website for now. Grab them quickly if you want them.

Black cat necklace

And this is the necklace I have on. I briefly subscribed to the Cat Lady Box. It didn’t work out for me for the most part, but now you can buy their exclusive items in their shop. So you can still purchase this Sterling Silver Black Cat Necklace in their shop.

Tell me in the comments below do you have two clothing brands that work well together for you?

Transitioning Your Wardrobe From Summer To Fall

Society Plus Flash Sale on Cardigans. One day only for 10-6-16

You spend a lot of money on your wardrobe. Or maybe you’re struggling just to buy one or two new pieces of clothing a year. No matter what your budget, finding a way to make your clothing wearable for a longer period of time is something we all want. If you saw my latest Inside The Dressing Room post a few weeks ago, you have already seen the inspiration and basics of this piece. But I still wanted to share this look fully styled.

First lets talk about the dress that we are transitioning into a fall look.

Lace Sundress from Torrid

This is Torrid’s Floral Lace Sundress. Chance’s are some of you may already have this dress or one similar. Or if you are interested in it they still have limited sizes available. You can actually purchase it both on Torrid’s Website or on Amazon.

This is pretty much how I wore it this summer. By itself, just paired with some shoes like these LifeStride Women’s Persephone Wedge Sandal that I am wearing. Sorry you can’t see them super well, my camera got moved a bit while I was taking the pictures.

To transition this dress into fall we just need to add some things.

Plus Size Sundress and Cardigan paired with booties

I paired with it the Plus Size Open Front Cardigan in Cocoa that I picked up in Forever 21. I also changed from the shoes to boots. These are the Avenue’s Rina Wide Buckle Bootie in Tan. You can purchase them on the Avenue’s Website or on Avenue Women’s Rina Wide Buckle Bootie. (Just a note for anyone looking to save some money. I personally bought my boots on Amazon. I was buying the boots only. The actual price is a couple of dollars more on Amazon, but shipping is free. On the Avenue’s website you have to spend $150 to get free shipping, so when I added it up it was cheaper to buy on Amazon.)

Now to add the finishing touch.

Transitioning a Torrid sundress to fall with a pair of boots, a sweater, and a purse

I added one of my favorite Jessica Simpson Bags to finish the look. The bag I have is from a couple of years ago, so I don’t think it’s still available. However I think the Jessica Simpson Neilson Fringe Trim Hobo Bag would be equally amazing with this look.

Thanks to the colors in this dress it could be changed up in many ways, not just for fall, but spring as well. You could easily change the cardigan to a bright coral and a put on a pair of closed toed pumps to be spring ready.

I would love to see how some of you have transitioned your outfits for fall. You can post them in the comments here or tag me on social media. If you tag me on Instagram I may even repost some of your beautiful pictures.
