My First Order From Riley Rose

What I ordered from Riley Rose

A few weeks ago I posted a new store alert for Riley Rose. In that post I mentioned I had already placed an order with them. So now I thought I would share what I ordered and how the actual process went.

I placed my order for three item on Monday July 2, 2018, and it arrived on Wednesday July 11, 2018. And it shows it shipped from Los Angeles, CA. So it took just over a week to reach me here in Kentucky from the time I ordered it. Really not bad, especially considering Riley Rose is a new company.

The package that arrived was a plain brown box. If you have received any beauty prescription boxes before, the box is made very similarly, just on a larger scale. And on the box they had placed a large sticker of their logo to make sure we know where it came from.

Riley Rose Logo Sticker on the shipping box.

When you open the box, written on the lid is “I could give up shopping but I’m not a quitter.” And on the interior is several layers of various types of filler. I’m including pictures of all of it.

Inside the lid and first layer of wrapping from Riley Rose order.

Second layer of wrap in my Riley Rose order is they own tissue paper.

Third layer of wrap in my Riley Rose order

I am not entirely sure what this third layer is. I haven’t gotten anything like this in any other order from any other company. It is almost as thick as a blanket, but seems to be made out of something like thick paper towel. I am guessing it is some sort of recycled material they are using for packing, but it just seemed like the oddest thing to me because of how thick it was and the texture. If any of you know what it is for sure or have received something with this material let me know in the comments.

I did think that the Riley Rose print tissue paper was super cute. The color coordinating air pockets were a nice touch. And I love the little extra bit of cute with the print inside the box. This brown paper was the final layer of wrap. It would have been nice if it had matched the pink theme since the rest all seemed to color co-ordinate, but that’s just me. Sometimes I like to go over-board with the matchy matchy.

And under all that was my order.

What was in my first Riley Rose order

The packaging was definitely secure. I don’t think you would have to worry about anything rolling around and breaking. And the box itself is very sturdy. Something pretty heavy would have to fall on it before it could be crushed.

Now let’s take a look at what I actually got in my first order.

Sea Kelp & Charcoal – Firming & Polishing Body Scrub bought at Riley Rose

First I got this Sea Kelp & Charcoal – Firming & Polishing Body Scrub from Vitamin Sea Beauty. I love a good body scrub, especially in the summer time. I have never tried this brand, but I have pretty high expectations.

SOO AE Intense Repair 3Day Hair Treatment

My hair is still feeling the after effects of the last shampoo and conditioner review I did. So I decided to pick up this Intense Repair 3Day Hair Treatment from SOO AE. I am really hoping this will help repair my hair so I can get back to the hair care reviews.

SOO AE Keeping Glow Coconut Jelly Mask bought from Riley Rose

Finally I picked up this Keeping Glow Coconut Jelly Mask also from SOO AE. I picked this up because even though my skin is doing some better, it’s still feeling dry AF. Besides, coconut cures everything, right? But seriously, my skin really is dry and I haven’t every tried one of these Jelly Masks before. So I picked this one up.

What I ordered from Riley Rose

That was my complete order. I know it was a small order, but I really just wanted to be able to review the order process. I will try to post some reviews of these products for you later once I get a chance to try them out. Also, if there is something specific any of you want me to try out and review from the Riley Rose website let me know in the comments. I am always happy to do that for the readers of my blog.

New Store Alert: Riley Rose

The last time I posted about a new store was when Torrid’s sister store Lovesick came around, and of course we know the head corporation has put them on pause for now. But as of recent a few new stores in various categories have come under my radar. Some I found out about because the companies have reached out to me, and some I just happened to stumble upon myself. But I thought since I am still in that period where I am having issues with health, now might be a great time to do some less labor intensive posts like share some info on these new stores.

Shop Riley Rose

Today I want to introduce you to Riley Rose. I found out about Riley Rose when the company emailed me asking me to join their affiliate program. Now if you read my post about affiliate links, you know lots of companies contact me all the time. But 90% of them have no interest to me or have nothing to do with any of the things I blog about. But once I took a look at the Riley Rose website, I knew they were a company made for me and so many of you.

Riley Rose is a beauty and lifestyle brand created by the same company that owns Forever 21. Chances are there is not a store close to you at this point, as they are pretty new and only have a handful of stores. The closest location to me right now seems to be in Chicago. But the great news is we can always order over the internet and they offer free shipping with any order of $40 or more.

Riley Rose Store Front

They carry a variety of makeup, skin care, hair care, accessories, and home décor. And while they are owned by Forever 21, they do carry things that will appeal to all ages. Just in the skin care line alone there is a range of high-end brands, indie brands, Korean/Asian brands, and brands that cater to the all natural lovers. There is something for every budget as well.

One of the things that stood out to me was the variety of brands that they carry are ones that I either already use or had a lot of interest in. The mix is typically ones I would have to shop two or three stores to get, or even in some cases purchase directly from the brand because I can’t find them anywhere else.

I have placed an order with Riley Rose, but we will talk about what I order once I get it. I most likely will do a review at that point. But for now I wanted to share a few of the interesting products that I spotted on the Riley Rose website. Each of the pictures will be clickable if you want to find the product on the Riley Rose website.

Product Review: Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repairing 3-Piece Starter Kit (Shampoo, Conditioner, and Hair Mask)

What you get in the Carol's Daughter Monoi Repairing 3-Piece Starter Kit

I am on a personal mission this year to find a shampoo and conditioner that both works for my hair type and for my sensitive scalp. This is the second review of this series, make sure to check out my review of the Not Your Mother’s Blue Sea Kale & Pure Coconut Water Sea Minerals Shampoo and Conditioner to see the first review.

My Hair And Scalp Type

My hair is very thick and coarse. It tends to be very dry, and can turn brittle if I wash it too often or don’t condition it enough. But my hair is reasonably healthy outside of that, as I do not use heat on it very often and I try to take care of it to the best of my ability.

My scalp goes back and forth between dry and oily depending on the time of the year and the products I have used. My biggest struggle with my scalp is from the allergic contact dermatitis caused by my allergy to Balsam of Peru. This causes a dry, scaley, itchy coverage on the scalp that looks a lot like dandruff. I have never been able to get it fully cleared up on my scalp. At its worst, when I have a reaction to something, it also burns and can blister.

The Product

What you get in the Carol's Daughter Monoi Repairing 3-Piece Starter KitThis is the Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repairing Collection 3-Piece Starter Kit, and it runs $26.00 for the set. This kit includes:

  • Monoi Repairing Shampoo (2.0 fl. oz.)
  • Monoi Repairing Conditioner (2.0 fl. oz.)
  • Monoi Repairing Hair Mask(2.0 oz.)

I bought mine on Amazon, but it is also available at Ulta. These are all small travel size bottles that come in this package, but there is a Monoi Luxury Hair Care Gift Set that comes with full size products if you would rather have that. The shampoo, the conditioner, and the hair mask can also be bought separately in full size.

I had never tried anything from this brand before, but I had heard a lot of wonderful things about the brand. They are (or at least they use to be) a small woman owned company. Their products do not contain sulfates, parabens, petrolatum, mineral oil, or artificial colors.

I picked this line specifically because it contained a lot of ingredients I had good experiences with. It was for intense moisture and repairing the hair. One of its large claims was that it would help prevent breakage of brittle hair. It really had a lot that appealed to me. And outside of fragrance, there were no ingredients that immediately concerned me. (If you also have a Balsam of Peru allergy, please note this does contain citric acid. I know that some react to that, I do not.)

How It Performed

I tried the Carol’s Daughter shampoo and conditioner combo four different ways, all ways that I typically would use other shampoos and conditioners before doing this review. I wanted to make sure I had a fully adequate comparison to the other shampoos I have used in the past. And so for me that means the hair mask in this set only got used once.

The first time I tried them with a hot oil treatment that I use fairly often. Then I tried them on their own. The third time I used them with a Korean brand dandruff shampoo that I use occasionally. And the fourth and final time I used them with the hair mask that came in the set.

I was actually surprised at how moisturizing the shampoo was. I realize that the shampoo contains oils, but I have used lots of shampoos that contain various types of oils and none of them have felt like that. I think it did a decent job at cleansing too, but the standout feature is just going to miniaturization. I almost felt like I could have went with out conditioner after the shampoo, if that tells you anything.

The conditioner performed just as well. Not only was it moisturizing, but it also felt very smoothing to my hair. I could definitely tell that after my hair dried this was still smoothing as I was not experiencing as much fizziness. I typically have to use an additional leave in conditioner with most shampoo/conditioners. But I did not have to with these.

One big thing I could not say whether it was specifically the shampoo or the conditioner, but I definitely saw less hair loss with this set. It could have been coincidence, but I find that unlikely.

The Allergy Effect

As I mentioned in my last post, anything that has a fragrance, I always put it through the smell test. Smelling this product was no help. It definitely has a unique fragrance that I have never smelled before. That actually made me far more nervous than it just having fragrance. I suppose it was the element of the unknown. To be completely honest here, I am not really a fan of how this smelled, but if something works for me I don’t care ultimately.

I am happy to say that I did not have any reaction to the shampoo and conditioner. However, I don’t think it did anything special as far as helping my dermatitis either. The one exception would be when I mixed it with my dandruff shampoo. That was probably the longest I have went itch and scale free in a long time. I don’t know if that was coincidence or if it was something special about the combo. And it would take a lot longer of testing to find out.

Now I am not sure why, but I didn’t fare as well with the hair mask. After using it I was itchy almost immediately. Looking at the ingredients nothing looks all that different or stands out to me as to why the hair mask would cause that.

Final Thoughts

Overall, with the exception of the hair mask, I really like the Carol’s Daughter Monoi Repairing Collection. I think I will keep this on the list of shampoos and conditioners that I feel okay using in a pinch. If I don’t find anything better this year I may even circle around and give this one another try for a while.

Tell me in the comments if you have tried anything from Carol’s Daughter before. Let me know what you tried and what you thought about it. And as always, I am taking requests of what you would like to try.

Week Four Of My Sheet Mask Challenge #newyearnewskin

New Year New Skin Challenge

New Year New Skin Challenge

So this will technically be for more than just week four. This month gave us a another half of a week to work with, so rather than make a second post for half of a week I am combining this into one. This will conclude the challenge and be the last post.

If you have not seen the previous posts and would like to get caught up on what I have done so far this month you can check out Week One, Week Two, and Week Three.

Day 22

Purederm Jojoba Oil Shiny & Hydrating Hair Mask

This is one of those days that I stretched the rules. This isn’t a sheet mask, it is a hair mask. It’s the Purederm Jojoba Oil Shiny & Hydrating Hair Mask. This is really one of the best hair masks for anyone who has very dry hair. I bought mine on Beauteque’s website. They are currently sold out and I couldn’t find anywhere else that has it in stock currently. However Beauteque does still currently have their Honey Vital Radiance Hair Mask and the Chamomile Nourishing Repair Hair Mask. They sell for $4.99 at regular price. And for most people there will be enough for two to three applications in a packet.

Day 23

NOHJ Tencel Sheet Mask

This is the no:hj Aqua Soothing Mask Pack Hyaluronic Acid. I bought mine on Beauteque, but they don’t seem to have these anymore. I have linked you to YesStyle. It is safe to buy from there, but expect a long wait as they ship from China. And their price on this is a little high. Most of their prices are reasonable, but not on this. I had paid $1.90 for this through Beauteque. On YesStyle it is $4.75. And quite honestly, I like this mask fine, but it is nothing special. If you really want to try it go for it, but I would get something better for that price tag.

Day 24

Heated Eye Mask

I received these in a Kira Kira Box from Japan Crate. I am not certain about the name because very little was in English on the package but I think it is from Graphic Co. It is a Heated Eye Mask. These are great in general. Very nice feeling when you are trying to fall asleep. I also like to use them for my dry eyes since my doctor wants me to use moist heat. These are so convenient. I can’t tell you where to get these, but you can find similar items on most websites that sell Korean skin care products.

Day 25

Holika Holika Monkey Glamour Lip Mask

This is the Holika Holika Golden Monkey Glamour Lip 3 Step Kit. I liked this mask set. It left my lips feeling soft, but I don’t think the results were long enough lasting. The first step is like a wipe that helps wipe away the dead skin on your lips. The second is a hydrogel mask for your lips for immediate hydrating. And the third step is a honey sleeping mask for your lips. This costs $6.99 at regular price.

Day 26

Vita Genic Whitening Jelly Mask

This is the Whitening Jelly Mask Infused with Jeju Oranges for Vitamin C Toning by Vita Genic . I really liked this mask. It was unique compared to other masks I have tried. It was like a hybrid between a regular sheet mask and a hydrogel mask. It costs $11.90 for a 5 pack or a $19.99 for a 10 pack.

Day 27

Dr. Morita Moisturizing Essence Eye Mask

This is the Dr Morita Moisturizing Essence Eye Mask 8 Pairs. These were unusual for me. It was the first time I have ever used an eye mask that is not hydrogel. They felt great though, very cooling and refreshing.

Day 28

I skipped this day due to not feeling well.

Day 29

Choosy Peach Lip Mask

This is another item I received in the Kira Kira box from Japan Crate. If you are interested in trying this I see that they are available on YesStyle. It is the Sun Smile – Pure Smile Choosy Lip Pack (Peach). I didn’t really care for these. There wasn’t anything wrong with them, but they just were not nearly as good as the ones I have used previously. This sells for $3.60

Day 30

Magical Beauty Deck Out Women Crystal Eyelid Patch

This is the Deck of Women Collagen Crystal Eye Mask Eyelid Patch. These are one of my favorite eye masks that I have been using for the longest times. I feel like I see the biggest results from these and they are really reasonably priced. Get a 20 pack for just $9.99

Day 31

Koelf Cosmetics Pearl Shea Butter Hydrogel Mask Pack

This is the Koelf Hydro-gel Mask Pack – Pearl & Shea Butter. I tried to save the best for last. It definitely didn’t disappoint in performance. It felt great and made my skin so soft. I was very disappointed however that it tore on me. That is the first time a hydrogel mask has torn on me. This sells for $3.80 at regular price.

Week Three Sheet Mask Challenge #newyearnewskin

New Year New Skin Challenge

New Year New Skin Challenge

We are now at the end of week three of my sheet mask challenge. If you missed the previous post you can click here to find week one and here for week two.

Day 15

Esfolio Pearl Essence Sheet Mask

This is the Esfolio Essence Mask Sheet – Pearl. As you have probably heard me say way too many times now esfolio is one of my favorite brands because I really see results from their products. This pear essence mask helps with brightening. If you are unsure what that means you probably never had a problem with dull skin, but it can essentially mean one of two things. People usually mean that skin doesn’t have the radiance and brightness that youthful skin has, or sometimes it’s used in referring to uneven skin tone. This sheet mask cost $1.99 at regular price.

Day 16

berrisom Black Rice Horror Mask

This is the Berrisom Horror Mask Skull – Black Rice. This mask, while the picture was hilarious, was not a good fit. It did not cover my whole face. The essence is supposed to be for moisture and elasticity, however I really didn’t think this mask performed well. It did feel pleasant on. Like most of these fun mask, I would classify them more as a beginners mask. They are great to get people interested in skin care, especially teens. This sells for $3.00 normal price.

Day 17

Botanic Farm Avocado Mask

This is the Botanic Farm Natural Energy Mask Sheet- Avocado. This is a great mask. Super moisturizing, and it contains a lot of the vitamins and antioxidants your skin needs. It performs well. It is $16.00 for a box of 10.

Day 18

This day was skipped because I was ill.

Day 19

Mediental Soothing Sensor Hydrogel Mask

This is the Mediental- Relaxing Soothing Sensor Hydrogel Mask. I had a bit of trouble with the initial application and getting this to stay in place, but after the initial two to three minutes it was fine. The mask itself was very cooling and soothing feeling. I will definitely repurchase this mask. And it is one of the most affordable hydrogel masks I have tried. It cost just $3.00 at regular price.

Day 20

Holika Holika Baby Silky Hand Sheet Mask

This is the Holika Holika Baby Silky Hand Mask Sheet. This is great for softening your hands and cuticles, especially in the winter time. I hadn’t tried this particular brand before but I had tried similar. They all seem to work well. This sells for $5.48, and I believe you get two packs. The link goes to Amazon, but I bought mine somewhere else that is now sold out.

Day 21

Ettang Modeling Take-Out Cups

This is the Ettang Modeling Take-Out Cup Pack. We used these at the Korean Skin Care party I co-hosted with my friend Jenny. I used the Mulberry one. This is not a sheet mask obviously, but I didn’t get home till late and I had done so much skin care at this point, there was no need to do more before bed.

Let me know in the comments what masks you tried this week.

And don’t forget any of the mask that are available on Beauteques website you can receive 10% off your purchase with the code KAREN
