Black Friday And Cyber Monday Sales 2018

Black firday and cyber monday deals

Its that time of year again, turkey and family followed by days of deals. This is always the time to get the best deals on Christmas gifts or just something special for yourself that you wouldn’t normally splurge on.

Black firday and cyber monday deals

That’s right it is time for those Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Just like last year I will continue to add to the list over the next few days as I find things, but this is going to be the majority of it.

Yes some of the links are affiliate links, but not all of them. Each year I try to give you only a list of the stores I believe to be giving a great deal that you can not get the rest of the year from that store, or at least not most of the year. And just like previous years, this will consist of mainly plus size clothing sales, but it will also have some beauty and other types of products. And this year I have added a section for subscription boxes as well. I will make it easy and list in categories and then in alphabetical order. So, if you are looking for Torrid, look in the plus size fashion section and then look for the T’s. Store names will be clickable and all their sales will be listed below their names.

New Store Alert: Riley Rose

The last time I posted about a new store was when Torrid’s sister store Lovesick came around, and of course we know the head corporation has put them on pause for now. But as of recent a few new stores in various categories have come under my radar. Some I found out about because the companies have reached out to me, and some I just happened to stumble upon myself. But I thought since I am still in that period where I am having issues with health, now might be a great time to do some less labor intensive posts like share some info on these new stores.

Shop Riley Rose

Today I want to introduce you to Riley Rose. I found out about Riley Rose when the company emailed me asking me to join their affiliate program. Now if you read my post about affiliate links, you know lots of companies contact me all the time. But 90% of them have no interest to me or have nothing to do with any of the things I blog about. But once I took a look at the Riley Rose website, I knew they were a company made for me and so many of you.

Riley Rose is a beauty and lifestyle brand created by the same company that owns Forever 21. Chances are there is not a store close to you at this point, as they are pretty new and only have a handful of stores. The closest location to me right now seems to be in Chicago. But the great news is we can always order over the internet and they offer free shipping with any order of $40 or more.

Riley Rose Store Front

They carry a variety of makeup, skin care, hair care, accessories, and home décor. And while they are owned by Forever 21, they do carry things that will appeal to all ages. Just in the skin care line alone there is a range of high-end brands, indie brands, Korean/Asian brands, and brands that cater to the all natural lovers. There is something for every budget as well.

One of the things that stood out to me was the variety of brands that they carry are ones that I either already use or had a lot of interest in. The mix is typically ones I would have to shop two or three stores to get, or even in some cases purchase directly from the brand because I can’t find them anywhere else.

I have placed an order with Riley Rose, but we will talk about what I order once I get it. I most likely will do a review at that point. But for now I wanted to share a few of the interesting products that I spotted on the Riley Rose website. Each of the pictures will be clickable if you want to find the product on the Riley Rose website.

Holiday Look Book 2017

Holiday 2017 Lookbook

Holiday 2017 Lookbook

Looking for something special to wear to one of those many Holiday Parties? Don’t worry, I got you covered. I have looks to share for every occasion and budget. Whether you are looking for something low-key for that office party or something super sexy to wear out on New Years Eve, I have it all.B

When I put this look book together I wanted to include some styles you don’t always see in most look books. I think there are lots of people who feel a little left out of these. Not everyone gets super dressed up. Maybe you are more of jeans and tee kind of girl and you just want to add a little sparkle to your look. I wanted to make sure you were included as well. So keep in mind while looking through this that not every look will be what you traditionally think of as a holiday look.

I will be showing these in order of most casual to dressiest. I will include links to items available as well as sizes I am wearing. I will try to include any other relevant information I think is important to have as well as occasional styling suggestions. As always I hope you guys find this helpful.

For reference, I typically wear a size 20W or 2X at most plus size stores like Lane Bryant or Torrid. My measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 43″ Hips: 54″. I wear a 40DDD/E Bra in most brands. I wear a size 9 shoe, and I am in between a medium and wide width.

Alternative Holiday look for the jeans and tshirt kind of girl

You can still be in jeans and look and feel more dressed up. I wanted to do this look for all you ladies who hate dresses and feel more at home in jeans. I totally get that dresses are not practical for everyone. To make this feel more fit for the occasion I chose a pair of jeggings that had rhinestone trim at the hem. And all of the other pieces, including the shoes, are in a velvet fabric to give this outfit a more luxe feel for the holidays. And that jacket is all about the little details. Here is what I have on:

Jacket: Velvet Moto Jacket from Torrid – comes in sizes 00 to 6. I have on a size 2.

Top: Floral Burnout Velvet Mock Neck Top from Torrid – comes in sizes 00 to 6. I have on a size 2.

Jegging: Virtual Stretch® Chevron Stone Jegging in Dark Wash from the Avenue – comes in sizes 14 to 26. Available in Average, Petite, and Tall sizes. I have on a 20 average.

Shoes: Wanted Womens Valance Slip On Tennis Shoes – comes in sizes 6 to 10 Medium Width. I have on a size 9 and they fit quite comfortably. They come in three colors options. I have on the nude color, but I think they look pink.

Plus Size Holiday look featuring Simply Be and Avenue

For this look I wanted to give you something that was both fashionable but super comfortable. Maybe you’re the girl who likes to take lots of family photos on Christmas morning, or maybe you aren’t into dresses but jeans aren’t your thing either. And whether this is the holiday outfit for you or not, I highly recommend getting a pair of leggings. They feel so soft and luxurious. I could wear them for days. Here is what I have on:

Headband: Velvet Stretch Headband from Forever 21 – not currently available online.

Top: Soft Peplum Top With Contrast Bow Back from Simply Be – comes in sizes 8 to 28. Available in two color option. I have on a size 20 in the Dark Red color.

Leggings: Damask Embossed Velvet Legging from Avenue – comes in sizes S/M to L/XL. I have on the size M/L. Make sure you check out the size charts on this one, the sizing is very different.

Shoes: Jellypop Women’s Angel Dress Pump – no longer available online. However you might also like the Jellypop Women’s ELVA dress Pump or the Jellypop Women’s Cayla Dress Pump. Comes in sizes 6 to 11.

City Chic Garden Rose Fit & Flare Dress

It may not seem like it to people who don’t know me well, but I am actually a pretty practical person. So I wanted to offer an option that was a cocktail dress, appropriate for a holiday party, and still be wearable beyond just the holidays. This is just barely a cocktail dress, and so with the right accessories it could also be appropriate for work or church if that is part of your life. Here is what I have on:

Dress: Rose Garden Printed Fit & Flare Dress from City Chic – currently available in most sizes between XS14 to XXL24. I have on a L20. This is currently on sale for $69.00, plus City Chic has an extra 30% off sale items with code ‘XMAS30’.  If you love the print, but they are out of your size or the style isn’t for you, you should also take a look at the Blackberry Peplum Rose Dress from City Chic.

Shoes: My shoes are a pair of Steve Madden Pumps that I have had forever, and they are no longer sold in this style. However the Steve Madden Women’s Ulltra Pump is a very similar style. In my personal experience, I have Steve Madden heels to be more comfortable than the average heels. And because these are a lower heel they might be better for dancing if that is something on your agenda.

Lace Plus Size 3/4 Sleeves Midi Business Cocktail on Amazon

This I think leans more towards the traditional cocktail dress look most people will be expecting. Even though it may not be in traditional Christmas colors, it is available in some of those colors. I did want to give you at least one traditional look, but I wanted to show it in this alternative color because I think it is something will last longer in your closet and be appropriate for more occasions. This is also a very affordable look for those of you on a budget. Here is what I have on:

Dress: Lace Plus Size 3/4 Sleeves Midi Business Cocktail Dress from GMHO – comes in sizes 0X to 5X. Available in four-color options. I have on a 2X in the blue color. Please note that their size chart is accurate and you will find it in the product description area, do not go by the link that takes you to Amazon’s general size chart.

Shoes: Envy Women’s Shoe Hugs N Kisses Retro Studded T-strap Genuine Leather Pump – comes in size 7M to 10M (half sizes available). Available in three color options. I have on a size 10M in Black.

Plus size Holiday outfit from City Chic and Forever 21

This look is definitely leaning towards New Years Eve, but its your life, don’t let me tell you when its appropriate to wear something. I really wanted to create a look that was both fun and glittery. But I wanted to make it for the girl who is part princess and all badass. Here is what I have on:

Jacket: I have on a sheer sleeve zip front jacket from City Chic. This particular jacket is no longer available. However, the Drapey Blazer Jacket from City Chic is very similar. The only real difference is that it does not zip up the front. It is currently available in most sizes between XS14 to XL22, some sizes sold out in this color. If you search the site there are also other colors available.

Bodysuit: Plus Size Sequin Bodysuit from Forever 21 – comes in sizes 0X to 3X. I have on the size 3X(Forever 21 is Junior Plus, so I have to size up one size in most of their items). Just a couple of notes I thought people would be interested in. The sequins are strictly on the front upper body. Also, there are no snaps to secure, you simply step into this bodysuit. The fabric is very stretchy.

Tutu: This particular tutu was bought several years ago from a company that no longer exists. However, if you are looking for a high quality tutu at a reasonable price, I will always recommend the tutus from Society Plus. I have one in white that I have shown here on the blog several times, you can’t go wrong with them.

Shoes: I have on a pair of Madden Girl heeled sandals I have had for years. If you are looking for something similar you might try the Madden Girl Women’s Lexxx Heeled Sandal. I think they have a very similar look.

Forever 21 and Avenue come together to make a sexy holiday look

This is the final look in this Holiday look book. But I couldn’t wrap things up without sharing at least one full-out sexy and glam look. I can just imagine so many ladies loving this look for New Years. This is definitely the look for the woman who wants all eyes on her. Here is what I have on:

Jacket: Plus Size Faux Fur Coat from Forever 21 – comes in sizes 0X to 3X. Available in two color options. I have on a size 3X in the Plum color.

Dress: Plus Size Lace-Up Combo Dress from Forever 21 – comes in sizes 0X to 3X. Available in two color options. I have on a size 3X in black. One note, on Forever 21’s website the models look like they have a cami on under the dress. That does not come with the dress. It is sheer on top. You will need to either have a cami or do like I did and wear a matching bra.

Shoes: Kimberly Over the Knee Boot from Avenue – comes in size 7W to 13W. They are wide calf as well. Comes in two color/fabric options. I have on the 9W in the black snake-skin print. (Just FYI, these seem to be on sale for 70% off right now, not sure how long this sale will last.)

And that is all for my Holiday Look Book. I welcome your feedback. And please tell me in the comments below if you had a favorite look.

Inside The Dressing Room – City Chic And Forever 21 Fall 2017

Inside the dressing room with My Plus Size Life

Inside the dressing room with My Plus Size Life

Its been a while since I have taken you inside the dressing room with me. But I had to run into the mall to take something back the other day and I noticed that my local Macy’s is finally carrying a few City Chic items. I had a little time to spare, so I thought I would try on some things I had my eye on and take some pictures to share with all of you. I visited Macy’s and Forever 21, so there will be some variety in styles.

Now I did try the City Chic items on at Macy’s (there is no local City Chic store where I live), however I will be linking directly to City Chic. Based on what I have seen City Chic has better sales on items than what Macy’s can offer you. Plus shipping is free with City Chic even for returns. You only get free shipping at Macy’s if your purchase is high enough or if they have the item you were looking for in store and you can pick it up there.

Just like any other fashion post I do, I will share what size I tried on as well as any relevant information on fit or quality. For reference I typically wear a size 20W or 2X at most plus size stores like Torrid or Lane Bryant. My measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 43″ Hips: 54″ And I wear 40DDD bra.

So lets start with the City Chic items I tried on at Macy’s. They didn’t have a lot of items available, so I only tried on two here.

City Chic plus size So Fancy Fit And Flare Dress

So Fancy Crochet Fit & Flare Dress

I am in a L or 20 here. It has spaghetti straps, so I obviously do not have on the right bra for this dress, but besides that it fit well in the bust. In general I find the sizing and fit to be essentially the same as Torrid’s. And just like Torrid’s they do occasionally have items that are exceptions to this rule. I probably won’t buy this for me because of the pleats. I don’t really like how this type of pleating lies on me. I think this dress would look best on someone that’s body shape is an inverted triangle.

At first I thought this was going to be a bad choice for fall/winter. However after trying it on, it is way warmer than expected. There seems to be almost a double lining. So add a shrug and it should be fine.

Lady Victoria Lace Top from City Chic

Lady Victoria Lace Top

Again I am showing this in a size L or 20. I thought the fit on this one was perfect for me. There was enough extra room at the bottom that this could also work for someone who is more of a pear shape. It does have a built-in cami that is black, but it could easily be removed if you needed or wanted to. I really loved the details on this top, from the collar to the little flutter sleeves. I could easily see this being styled several different ways. And I will most likely purchase this sometime in the near future.

Now lets take a look at what I tried over at Forever 21. Since Forever 21 is a juniors store, that means their plus section is junior plus. I usually have to size up to a 3X, but because of variances in items there are some items I need a 2X. Occasionally I would need larger, but 3X is currently where their sizing starts. (Side note, if you see something blurry and white on some of the pictures, it’s not the clothing. Forever 21 just has dim lighting and really smudged mirrors.)

Plus Size Lace Up Sleeve Dress

I tried this on in a 3X. I thought this dress fit okay. The sleeves fit really well, and I liked the lace up detail. The body fit a little snugger than I personally would like. I might have been okay with the tightness if it were done in a different material. But at $23.00 there is an element of “you get what you pay for”.

I tried on with it this Sequin Hooded Bomber Jacket. I can not find this on their site, but if you like it, its worth looking in your local store. Mine had lots of these. These jackets should work for any body type.

Plus Size Lace-Up Tube Dress from Forever 21

Plus Size Lace-Up Tube Dress

I also tried this on in a 3X. I actually picked this up initially to try on because I thought it was a skirt. They had it hung oddly. But I decided to go ahead and try it on to share. Again I thought the fit was okay, but in a different way than the previous dress. The top looked and felt like the right tightness, but I didn’t feel like it was secure at the very top. I thought the bottom also looked fine, but it felt very tight across the hips. And the length was indecent in the back. I feel like this would fit someone who is a perfect hourglass the best, and it probably would look good on someone who is an inverted triangle as well.

Plus Size Fuzzy Sweater and Plus Size Lace-Up Mini Skirt

Plus Size Fuzzy Sweater

and

Plus Size Lace-Up Mini Skirt

I have on a size 3X in both pieces here.

The skirt I thought fit well and was made out of a great fabric. I liked the lace up detail, but I didn’t think they stood out as much once it was put on. I also think it would be better paired with something different from this sweater.

The sweater also fit great, and it felt great on. I think it will work for many body types but will probably look best on someone with and apple shape. This is supposed to be a crop sweater, and since its not a form-fitting one, I was glad it was on the longer side. However since its barely crop length, if you are on the short side it may not read as crop on you. I really loved this sweater, and I would have purchased it, however I noticed it sheds horribly. So be aware of that.

Plus Size Mesh Trim Bralette and Plus Size Sheer Mesh Tee from Forever 21

Plus Size Lace-Up Mini Skirt,
Plus Size Mesh Trim Bralette,

and

Plus Size Sheer Mesh Tee

The skirt is the same one from the previous outfit.

The bralette is a size 3X. It fit perfectly and I did buy it. It is padded, but removable padding. Honestly the way it is made makes it look more like a crop top rather than a bralette.

The top is in a 2X. I also tried a 3X, but it was really loose on me. I thought this fit well in the 2X. It was comfortable, but again I probably would not pair these tops with this skirt.

Plus Size Stripe Lettuce-Edge Top

Plus Size Stripe Lettuce-Edge Top

This is a 3X. The fit was again perfect in this item. I thought they worked well with the Dark Wash Jeggings from Torrid I had on. It does not call this a crop top on Forever 21’s website, but it definitely fits me the same as the crop sweater I tried on. I did end up purchasing this for myself.

I also wanted to take a minute and give a shout out for Forever 21’s bralettes. In addition to the one I showed here in the post I also tried on and bought their Plus Size Lace Bralette in a size 2X. If I had wanted a tighter fit I probably could have worn a 1X in this one. Probably the most comfortable yet supportive bralette I have tried yet. Looks like they are almost sold out online. I really hope they will consider making them a permanent part of their collection.

As always I want to hear from you. Tell me in the comments below if there is a store you want me to order from or go take you in the dressing rooms with me. I know the frustration of trying to figure out what your size is in a brand. I want to help make that easier for all of you.

Transitioning Your Wardrobe From Summer To Fall

Society Plus Flash Sale on Cardigans. One day only for 10-6-16

You spend a lot of money on your wardrobe. Or maybe you’re struggling just to buy one or two new pieces of clothing a year. No matter what your budget, finding a way to make your clothing wearable for a longer period of time is something we all want. If you saw my latest Inside The Dressing Room post a few weeks ago, you have already seen the inspiration and basics of this piece. But I still wanted to share this look fully styled.

First lets talk about the dress that we are transitioning into a fall look.

Lace Sundress from Torrid

This is Torrid’s Floral Lace Sundress. Chance’s are some of you may already have this dress or one similar. Or if you are interested in it they still have limited sizes available. You can actually purchase it both on Torrid’s Website or on Amazon.

This is pretty much how I wore it this summer. By itself, just paired with some shoes like these LifeStride Women’s Persephone Wedge Sandal that I am wearing. Sorry you can’t see them super well, my camera got moved a bit while I was taking the pictures.

To transition this dress into fall we just need to add some things.

Plus Size Sundress and Cardigan paired with booties

I paired with it the Plus Size Open Front Cardigan in Cocoa that I picked up in Forever 21. I also changed from the shoes to boots. These are the Avenue’s Rina Wide Buckle Bootie in Tan. You can purchase them on the Avenue’s Website or on Avenue Women’s Rina Wide Buckle Bootie. (Just a note for anyone looking to save some money. I personally bought my boots on Amazon. I was buying the boots only. The actual price is a couple of dollars more on Amazon, but shipping is free. On the Avenue’s website you have to spend $150 to get free shipping, so when I added it up it was cheaper to buy on Amazon.)

Now to add the finishing touch.

Transitioning a Torrid sundress to fall with a pair of boots, a sweater, and a purse

I added one of my favorite Jessica Simpson Bags to finish the look. The bag I have is from a couple of years ago, so I don’t think it’s still available. However I think the Jessica Simpson Neilson Fringe Trim Hobo Bag would be equally amazing with this look.

Thanks to the colors in this dress it could be changed up in many ways, not just for fall, but spring as well. You could easily change the cardigan to a bright coral and a put on a pair of closed toed pumps to be spring ready.

I would love to see how some of you have transitioned your outfits for fall. You can post them in the comments here or tag me on social media. If you tag me on Instagram I may even repost some of your beautiful pictures.

Inside The Dressing Room – Forever 21 Fall 2016

Inside The Dressing Room With My Plus Size Life

Inside thedressing room with My Plus Size Life

I decided to head back into Forever 21 to see what was being put out for the fall season. Unfortunately my local store didn’t seem to have a lot on the shelves, at least not in my size. But I did manage to find a couple of things to try on for you all to see. Some good, some not so good.

Just as a reference, like always, I am a consistent size 20W or 2X at most plus size stores like Torrid or Lane Bryant. And I wear a 40DDD bra. Because Forever 21 is Junior Plus, everything I tried on is in a size 3X. So let’s get to it and you can see what I tried on.

Torrid dress and Forever 21 Plus size sweaterFirst I started off with the dress I came in with, which was not from Forever 21, but was from Torrid. It is their Floral Lace Sundress. But I found this Plus Size Open-Front Cardigan in Cocoa to try on with it. It sells for $22.90 and is available in sizes 0X to 3X.

I actually really liked this sweater. It’s a lot thicker than you would expect to get for the price. It was very comfortable. I ended up buying it, and expect to see it soon in either a look book or a general outfit of the day post.
Bellabeat
Forever 21 Plus top and faux leather leggings

I then tried on this pair of Plus Size Faux Leather Leggings. They sell for $17.90 and are available in sizes 0X to 3X. I tried it on with the Plus Size Asymmetrical Top in teal. Its sells for $15.90 and comes in sizes 0X to 3X.

This would not be something I would normally try for myself. I don’t typically think the asymmetrical thing looks good on me, however I think this actually was cut in a way that it could flatter any body type. The leggings looked decent with it. I didn’t find them especially comfortable though. They seemed to be made for someone taller, and the slits were at a spot that after a while would really annoy me. While I did, in general like this look, I did not buy it.

Now is where it goes down hill…

Forever 21 Plus Body Suit and Leggings

I decided I wanted to try on some leggings and a body suit. Just so you know what I actually tried on it is the Plus Size Front Tie Bodysuit and the Plus Size Ribbed Panel Leggings. I have to say if I had a different bra on the bodysuit itself would have been okay. But the leggings, I have nothing good to say about them. I am pretty realistic about what my body looks like. I have even posted pictures of me in bathing suits here on the blog before. These leggings created lumps, bumps, rolls, and other weird spots in all sorts of places that are just not there. And quite honestly, they look better in the picture than they did in person. I can’t imagine these looking good on anyone.

But I did try on another pair of what I would consider to be leggings, but they are listed as pants with the same bodysuit.

Forever 21 Plus bodysuit and pants

This was the Plus Size Zipper Trim Pants. They sell for $17.90, available in 0X to 3X.

While I still didn’t care for what they were doing to my body, I did think it was a huge improvement over the leggings. While they were not for me, I can definitely see them being a good fit for some people and maybe even a nice affordable starter pair of pants for an office job. Just needs to be paired with the right items.

Let me know what you have gotten for fall from Forever 21. And don’t forget to tag me on social media with your pics in the dressing room. Just use the hash tag #ITDRwithMyPlusSizeLife .

If you have any special request where you would like me to do my next Inside The Dressing Room post from either leave a comment here or on any of my social media. Or send me a message via the contact page.

On an added note. I get stopped a lot and asked about my new phone case. So I figured I would just go ahead and tell people now, yes it is a cat. It comes in multiple colors. Mine is the 2015 Newes California cat Fruit sister Katy Perry kitty purry Metal Brand Diamond glitter case For iphone4 4s/5 5s/6/6 plus (plus 5.5 Pink).

Also available is the one for the Apple iPhone 6 (4.7 Inch) and the one for the Samsung Galaxy S7

Here is what it looks like up closer.

Each one will look slightly different depending on what phone its made for.

Navigating The World Of Women’s Plus Size Clothing Sizing

Female belly with tape measure

Plus size clothes shopping can be hard for many reasons. Its difficult even when you can try the clothes on before you buy it. But when you take your purchasing online, while it does open up a lot of options of where to shop, it becomes way more confusing about what size to buy. Without the ability to try an item on you are now stuck relying on size charts.

Why is this a problem? It gets confusing because: 1. Women’s sizes don’t just start at the smallest and go to the largest. Instead they are broken up into a bunch of categories and sized in those categories. And 2. Women’s sizes, at least in America, are not standardized. So how an 18W fits at one store might fit completely different at another store. And finally 3. To get the biggest variety of options you might shop stores that are either vintage styles or from another country, and they all have their own sizing as well.

For the purposes of todays article I am only going to talk about non-vintage US sizes. And if it is requested enough I will do follow ups with Vintage sizing and Maybe sizing from other countries. You, the readers, will really have to speak up and let me know what you want with this one.

I am going to use size charts from JC Penny’s because they offer all the sizes I am going to talk about in one store and their size chart tend to be fairly accurate, or at least they have been for me in the past.

First lets examine the two sizing differences that get most confused. This would be Plus Size and Junior Plus.

Camparison of Size Charts for Plus Size and Junior PlusKeep in mind that these are all JC Penny's size charts, so while a 1X here is a 16/18W that is not the case for every store. When shopping at a new store always check their size charts before ordering.

When you look at both size charts they look the same at first glance. Both have a 0X to start with, and both 0X sizes are equal to a 14. So let’s take a look at the differences. Obviously there are W’s behind the numerical sizes of plus sizes, but to make things even more confusing some plus size stores and brand have quit including the W on the end. The real difference comes when you start looking at the measurements.

Lets look at a size 18 in both charts. The bust measurement on the plus size chart is 46″, and on the junior plus side it is 44.5″(which is a generous sizing for junior plus, a lot run much smaller). That is a 1.5″ difference. But for some people, if they didn’t realize the store or brand was junior plus they might assume they had put on weight. Or if they were ordering online they might be very frustrated at a item that doesn’t fit. And at times that can lead to pricey returns at the customers expense, or with some companies even worse an all out loss.

There is so much more that clouds the water though. Its not just about trying to determine whether something is Plus Size or Junior Plus. There is also Misses sizes to look at, and some people can fit in both because of an overlap in sizes. So let’s take a look at both the misses and plus size charts next to each other for comparison.

CompareMisses&PlusThis time when you initially glance at the charts they look very different. And your first thought might be that if you where plus size, why would you even look at misses sizes. And for a large portion of plus size women that would be correct, but as we already said women’s clothing sizes in the US are very complicated.

The problem is not with the letter sizing (at least not for the most part, but we will talk more about that in a minute), but you see we again have many of the same number sizes again. Everything from a 14 to a 20 is on both charts, and depending on the brands you are comparing this could be everything from a 10 to a 24.

Lets look again at the size 18 to compare on both charts. Once again on the plus size bust measurements is 46″ and on the misses side the bust is 44″. That is 2″ difference. While 2″ is quite a bit, if you remember the junior plus sizes was 1.5″ different. So the junior plus and misses sizing is relatively close on measurements, at least in the bust. And if you look once more at the plus size 18 and this time compare it to the misses 20 you will see the bust measurement is actually the same. Actually the hip measurement is the same as well. The only variance is that the waist is 1″ smaller on the misses 20. So while it can be very confusing, if you do happen to fall in that zone where you could fit numerous categories, you have so many more shopping options.

Not that we aren’t already confused about the sizing enough, but now some brands have decided that they no longer want to use the sizing we have used for years. So we have brands that have branched off into a multitude of other types of sizing. The easiest to deal with is places like Torrid that often number theirs sizes 0, 1, 2, and so on. Simply add and X to the end and its the same thing as traditional sizes. Then we have brands that have started using S, M, L, and so on to mark their plus sizes. This is obviously confusing since this is the sizes we traditionally connect to misses  or juniors sizes. With the stores that use these sizing methods, if no size chart is available you must ask. And then we have stores that are not necessarily trying to use misses sizes for plus sizes, but they carry both and so they tag them all using traditional misses sizes and it just goes straight from XL misses over to a XXL plus size. And while just looking at that alone seems like a good thing, until we have everyone on the same page it just adds to the confusion.

I am not really going to discuss the difference in sizing, but I wanted to share this with you so you can take a look for yourself. To make matters even more complicated, some stores like JC Penny have added a third category of Juniors sizing. Now there is Juniors, Junior Plus, and the third added option is Curvy Juniors.

Juniors, Curvy Juniors, and Junior Plus Size Charts to compare

But here is the good news. Yes it may be confusing at times, but its not impossible. And there are certain things that can make shopping easier. First and foremost, I hope that I have impressed upon you the importance of knowing your measurements, especially when shopping online. Because no matter what size range the brand may offer, if you know your measurements, you will most likely end up with an item that fits.

Second, if you take some time to find out how a brand or store is categorized you will find your size there quicker. For example I know at most plus size stores I am a 2X or a 20W, but if I go to Junior Plus I am usually in a 3X. So some examples of straight plus size would be Torrid, Avenue, Lane Bryant. And Junior plus would be Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, and Wet Seal (quick tip: if you are having a hard time telling if a store is junior plus check their prices, prices are usually quite a bit less and stores targeting juniors since they either don’t have jobs or only part time ones). But beyond finding the right size, I hope this has perhaps helped at least a of my readers to open up to some new shopping options. All I really want to say is don’t limit yourself just because a store is categorized as something you don’t think you are. Don’t be afraid to just try it.

And finally, if you are ordering from online, always make sure to check out the companies return policy. There is nothing worse than ordering from a company only to get something that looks nothing like what it does in the picture and then find out they have a no return policy. Or just as horrible maybe they charge you a restock fee on top of you paying for the shipping. At the end of the day, read everything because we live in a buyer be ware world.

So do you have any useful tip or tricks that I missed about sizing or shopping? If so make sure you comment below and share with everyone.

Inside The Dressing Room – Forever 21 Summer 2016

Inside thedressing room with My Plus Size Life

Inside thedressing room with My Plus Size LifeIf you saw my previous post where I went Inside The Dressing Room With Lovesick, then you already know this is going to be a semi-regular series and you know what to expect. For those of you who are just know maybe reading one of my post for the first time this is part of new series for me. I take you into the dressing room with me to see what I try on, what I bought, and my general overall thoughts on the sizing.

As always I will remind you that at most traditional plus size stores I wear a 40DDD bra and a 20W or 2X. This would be stores like Torrid, Lane Bryant…etc. Since I already know going in Forever21 is a juniors brand, most of the clothing tried on will be a 3X.

So here is what I tried on: 2016-05-24 16.59.012016-05-24 16.59.41

Plus Size Crochet Midi Dress

$29.99 – Sizes 0X to 3X

I tried this dress on in a 3X and I thought it fit quite well. The fabric was light enough that it should make a great summer dress. I did end up buying this.

2016-05-24 17.03.462016-05-24 17.04.34

It seems that neither of these exact pieces are still available online. You may still be able to find them in store, but if not Forever 21 has tons of items that look similar. I did not purchase either of these items though. I felt the top hit me in an awkward in between spot that I didn’t like. It was suppose to be a crop but it was a touch too long to be that. And it was too short to wear it as a regular top. The shorts were just a tad too tight for comfort. The shirt was a 2X and the shorts were a 3X. If you do want to try something similar on at Forever 21 you might like the Plus Size Lace-Up Top and the Plus Size Floral Gauze Shorts.

2016-05-24 17.08.39

Again I could not find either of these on the site, but you may find them in your local store. I also did not purchase either of these items. The top again hit me in an awkward spot. And this time the shorts were too big on me, but not so big that going down a size would work. I felt the hips fit, but the waist was really big. If you are apple shaped this may be a great pair for you. Both the top and the shorts were tried on in a 3X. If you want to try something similar I would suggest the same shorts I did previously, and I would try the Plus Size Wrap Top.

2016-05-27 18.07.46

$22.90 – Sizes 0X to 3X

I tried this tunic in a 3X. It was a tad loose in the bust area, but nothing that would make it unwearable. It is listed as a tunic, and the model on Forever 21 is wearing it with pants. However, I am 5’8″ and as you can see it is plenty long enough on me to be worn as a dress. I did not purchase this, though I was very on the fence about it.

2016-05-27 18.10.56

And again they are sold out online of this particular romper, but they may have it in your local store. This one was extremely comfortable and the waistline hit me just right, which rarely happens with rompers. I did end up buying this. If you like this and want to try something similar you may like the Plus Size Geo Floral Romper.

Please forgive the hazy pictures on this one guys. The lighting in the Forever 21 dressing rooms were the worst. I took tons of pictures, and these were the best I could get. But I think it still shows enough that you can see how the clothing fits.

Don’t forget to tag your pictures of things your trying on in the dressing room with the hashtag #ITDRwithMyPlusSizeLife . I want to see all your beautiful faces and what your trying.
