Welcome To #AllDressApril And So Much More

All Dress April 2017 #AllDressApril

All Dress April 2017 #AllDressApril

Today is the first day of April and it marks the first day of #AllDressApril. If you don’t know what I am talking about you probably haven’t been following me very long because in addition to participating last year, I have mentioned this no less than three times since the first of January. (I can’t help myself I am excited, I love dresses)

Essentially All Dress April or #AllDressApril is of course in April. The challenge is to wear a dress or skirt every day of April and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #AllDressApril. Of course everyone understands when you can’t, life happens. If you don’t do Instagram, no worries. You can alternatively post your photos to the Facebook Event Page.

Find the perfect look for everyone starring in your special day at Adrianna Papell! Dresses and gowns for every event. Shop the Bridal Suite!

Lots of bloggers and just women who have a love for fashion will be participating. It’s a great way to connect with others who love dresses and fashion as much as you do. And its a great way to find inspiration for your wardrobe. Everyone is welcome to participate, all body types, shapes and sizes. This should be a true body positive experience.

I have some things I am really excited to share with you. All this month I will be doing my best to show you completely different things than what I showed last year. I can’t promise there won’t be a few pieces duplicated though. I will be doing recaps for each week along with links to anything that is still purchasable.

I have a few special featured looks from places like Society Plus, Simply Be, and City Chic. And there will be Hidden Gems Of Amazon thrown in there somewhere too. But most exciting of all, and what I have been dying to announce for quite some time, later this month I will be hosting a giveaway with City Chic. It’s a really great one too, so make sure you keep watch for it. I will give you all the details then.

If you would like to take a look at the recaps from last year you can check out Week One, Week Two, and Weeks Three and Four.

Tell me in the comments if you will be participating in All Dress April. And make sure to tell me where I can follow you if you are participating.

Women’s History Month and Other Upcoming Events

Women's History Month

Women's History Month

As you all probably already know, March is Women’s History Month. At this moment, as we struggle to hold on to many of our freedoms and rights we have fought for through the years, I think it is more important than ever to talk about Women’s rights and the women who have fought for them thought history. We need to remember where we came from, and why we must fight to maintain the rights we have both earned and deserve.

So all through the month I will be sharing, both here on the blog and on social media, information, thought, and feelings about women I admire through history. I have already started on social media, and you can find those post easily by searching the hash tag #womenshistorymonth

I will be talking about women both living and deceased, so know one is exempt. I know a lot of other people are also sharing women they admire, so don’t be afraid to explore everyone’s post. And I fully encourage all of you to share as well, whether that be here on the blog in the comments section or on your social media accounts.

Just another reminder of some other things coming up soon.

Next month I will be participating again in #AllDressApril. If you don’t know what that is you can check out last years post. This year I am working on something really special for you all in conjunction with it. Look for the announcement on that near the end of the month. Since April will be filled with fashion, you probably won’t be seeing a lot of it this month.

Also next month I will be going to The International Steampunk Symposium in Cincinnati, Ohio. It will be on April 28 – 30 this year. Let me know if you are going too. And don’t be afraid to say hi.

Tell me in the comments below if you have a personal female hero from history.

Plus Size OOTD – The Dress For Every Body

Society Plus Skater Dress in Marsala

If you are always looking for that perfect dress that looks great on you, look no further than the skater dress. The skater dress is just one of those silhouettes that look good on every body shape and size. So it just comes down to finding a color and fabric selection that you like.

For sizing reference I typically wear a size 2X or 20W at most plus size stores like Lane Bryant and Torrid. My measurements are Bust:49″ Waist:42″ Hips:54″

Society Plus Skater Dress in Marsala

This particular one I am wearing is the Tinley Solid Skater Dress in Marsala from Society Plus. It comes in size 14/16 to 30/32. I am wearing a size 18/20. It is made in the popular scuba fabric, which is also a great fabric for everyone.

Plus size skater dress from Society Plus

The Tinley Solid Skater Dress comes in three color option currently. There is the Marsala, like I am wearing, or there is also black and charcoal as options. But they have many other styles of skater dresses on the Society Plus website, many of which are in their Winter Clearance Event Sale.

Tinley Skater Dress from Society Plus paired with Sketchers

With it I have paired some Relaxed Fit Skechers. The exact ones I am wearing are not available any more, but there are several similar available if you look at the link provided.

I know I show quite a bit of Skechers shoes, and there is a reason for that. I am what I would say is in between a wide width and a medium width. I have a hard time finding shoes because of this, especially flats. I can get my foot in a lot of medium width shoes, but they are usually a little snug and will cause blisters if I push it, or at the very least just be really uncomfortable. I can also wear a lot of wide widths, but they are hard to find where I live. And not all do fit. Some are a touch too big which causes them to slip when I walk. And they cause blisters from rubbing. But Skechers, and a few other brands, just naturally run a little wider than the rest. They always fit me perfect without having to worry about finding a wide width. And a lot of their shoes have a comfort sole, which is a huge bonus.

Skater dresses look great on every body type.

Tell me in the comments below what your favorite dress style is. And have you tried  skater dress?

Plus Size OOTD – Jumpsuit 70’s Style

Simply Be Jumpsuit paired with a Worthington Plus Blouse

Simply Be Plus Size Pinafore Jumpsuit

I really love a good jumpsuit. But it is really hard for me to find one that fits me. Most I have tried in recent years (especially from US brands) seem to be only made for women with short torsos. I am always trying to find one with a good fit, so when this one came in and actually fit me comfortably I was ecstatic. This is the Simply Be Wide Leg Pinafore Jumpsuit. It comes in sizes 8 to 22, but they seem to be out of size 22 at the moment. I am wearing a size 20, which is what I typically wear at most traditionally sized plus size brands like Lane Bryant and Torrid. For reference my measurements are Bust:49″ Waist:42″ Hips: 54″. I did have about an 1.5″ of fabric hemmed from the legs.

70's style plus size jumpsuit

I really love the little touches that hint at the seventies, like the pinafore top, the wide flare legs. Even the material feels like the seventies. In addition to those kinds of touches, one of the things I think a lot of people will love is…it has pockets. And I know how much a lot of you ladies love pockets.

Simply Be Jumpsuit paired with a Worthington Plus Blouse

I have it paired with the Worthington Short-Sleeve Tie-Neck Blouse with Pleated Sleeve. They are sold at JC Penny and come in size 0X to 3X. I have on a 2X, and I think it fits true to size. It is no longer available in this red color, but they still have it in a pink. But if you are looking for something in red I think the Worthington Accordian Sleeve V-Neck Bow Blouse would look equally as striking.

Side view of the Simply Be Jumpsuit paired with GAP Platform heels

My shoes are platform heels from GAP. They are no longer available. I think just about any black heels will look good with this outfit. I personally like the wood heel look just because it is another nod to the 70s.

Tell me in the comments below if you would rock a jumpsuit.

Plus Size OOTD – A Tale Of Two Stores

Plus Size City Chic Pelum Top

City CHic Top, Torrid Jeans, and T.U.K. shoes bought on ModCloth

I might have mentioned a time or two in the past there are always two brands that I can count on to consistently fit me, and fit me well. Not only that, but I feel their styles often compliment each other. That probably has a lot to do with why I have so much of both of them in my closet. Now if you have been reading my blog or following any of my social media for a while, there is probably good chance you already know what brands I am talking about. For those of you who are new here or just are not good guessers I will go ahead and tell you I am talking about Torrid and City Chic.

For size reference my measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 42″ Hips:54″ I typically wear either a 2X or 20W at most traditional plus sized stored like Lane Bryant or Torrid.

Plus Size City Chic Pelum Top

I am wearing a faux leather peplum top from City Chic. I purchased it a little over two years ago, so I am sorry to say this is no longer available. I really like peplum tops, but on my body type they are tricky to find ones that fit me in a way that I both like and doesn’t make me look pregnant.

In order for it to fit me the way I like, I have found the peplum either needs to be very structured (like the one I am wearing here) or the complete opposite and be completely soft fabric. Anything in the middle seem to not work on me. Also the placement of the waist band is a big deal. I don’t think I will stop here with the explanation and if I hear from enough of you that you want me to do an actual post about the different types of peplums I will do that.

Plus size outfit of the day

On the bottom I am wearing a pair of Torrid Multi Zip Jegging in weathered black. They don’t have this color anymore, but I think the dark grey looks very similar. You can find those on both Torrid’s Website and on Amazon. I have these jeans in three different colors. You have seen the dark wash in previous pictures. They are my favorite jeans I own. These for some reason do not fit like the other two pairs. These are a lot looser in the booty and the legs.

Shoes are TUK bought on Modcloth

For anyone wondering what I have on with it. The shoes are a pair of TUK heels I purchased on ModCloth a couple of years ago. They don’t have any left, however there are still a few in stock at TUK’s Website for now. Grab them quickly if you want them.

Black cat necklace

And this is the necklace I have on. I briefly subscribed to the Cat Lady Box. It didn’t work out for me for the most part, but now you can buy their exclusive items in their shop. So you can still purchase this Sterling Silver Black Cat Necklace in their shop.

Tell me in the comments below do you have two clothing brands that work well together for you?

Mad For Plaid

Plaid All Nighter Pant and Black lace up tee from torrid

If I haven’t mentioned it a hundred times before, I am absolutely in love with all the plaid that is out this year. And this is no exception.

Plaid All Nighter Pant and Black lace up tee from torrid

For this look I have on a the Torrid Deep V Lace Up Top in Black. Unfortunately the black is sold out online, however it is available in an olive green color. However, if you really like the black check Torrid’s website often as they are prone to bringing items back periodically. You can find the olive green version on both Torrid’s Website and on Amazon.

Plus size outfit from torrid.

My shoes are from Madden Girl. They were from several years ago. But if you would like something similar take a look at the Madden Girl Debbra Sandal.

Back view of the Torrid All Nighter Ponte Pant.

And the pants are Torrid’s Skinny Pant – Multi-Zip Plaid All-Nighter Ponte. I have several versions of this pant. It is by far my favorite pant. It is like a mix of a thick legging meets a dress pant. It smooths you all over, but it remains extremely comfortable. And it makes your booty look great. These pants are available both on Torrid’s Website and on Amazon

Torrid's All Nighter Ponte Pant paired with a Lace Up Tee.

I have worn this several times now, and I can honestly say it is one of my favorite outfits this season. It is comfortable, easy to wear, and it always gets compliments.

Tell me in the comments, what is your favorite pair of pant?

Try Out LuLaRoe With Me, A Review And …. A Giveaway!

LuLaRoe Nicole Dress in a size 2XL

LuLaRoe Giveaway

So a few weeks ago two lovely ladies approached me with an offer. LuLaRoe representatives Jessica Bartell and Beckie McGonagle contacted me and asked me if I would like to try some clothing from LuLaRoe and do a review and giveaway. I had never had a chance to try LuLaRoe before, and if there are two things you guys have learned about me by now you should know how much I love trying out new brands to share and giveaways. So of course I said yes. If you want to learn more about their LuLaRoe business you can find them on their main Facebook Page and you can also ask to join their VIP Shopping Group.

While I had not had a chance to try out LuLaRoe before I had heard a bit about them, but I found there was quite a bit I did not know. Actually I am pretty sure there is still a lot I don’t know. But for those of you who are completely new to LuLaRoe I will share what I can to help you understand more about them. The majority of buying opportunities you will have come through what they call pop up shops. They are essentially like Tupperware parties, but with clothes. You get the opportunity to try on different pieces and see what fits you. However some consultants have ways for you to buy online like Jessica and Beckie do. I am told that each pattern that is created is only made in 5,000 pieces to assure that you don’t see a bunch of people wearing the same thing that you are. And each consultant has different pieces and patterns to choose from.

But back to the main story. Beckie and Jessica sent me some size charts and I consulted some people that had previously tried on LuLaRoe. After much deliberation I decided on the sizes I thought would fit me best. I will make sure to share the size charts with you all along with the items I tried. I will say this was the one area I found most difficult as their size charts are not measurement based but instead based on sizes. This worked fine for two of the three pieces I was sent, but if I had not spoken to other people who had worn the clothing I probably would have ended up with the wrong size in the third piece. This is not really a problem for most people who have had a chance to try them on in person at parties, but as I said I had no had a chance to try LuLaRoe before.

I was sent three pieces to try. I was sent The Perfect T, The Leggings, and The Nicole  Dress. In the tee I chose the XL, in the leggings I got the Tall & Curvy size, and for the Nicole Dress I went with the 2XL. For comparison my usual size in most traditional plus size stores like Torrid and Lane Bryant is a 2X or a 20W. My measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 42″ and Hips: 54″. And I wear a 40DDD/G bra  depends on the brand and how its made.

First lets take a look at the dress. I was sent the Nicole dress. And I tried this in the 2XL. This is the item that I was glad I consulted someone else about sizing rather than going by the size guide provided. If you want to see a size chart for the Nicole Dress click here.

LuLaRoe Nicole Dress in a size 2XL

Back view of the Nicole dress from LuLaRoe

There is so much I love about this dress. The color, pattern, style, those are all me. My one and only complaint about this dress is not really a big thing. Its really just the fabric. In general the fabric is okay, I don’t think it feels bad or anything. Its just a textured fabric. Lots of places have it right now. It seems to be very in. I really avoid it mainly because I have long haired cats. Their hair tends to grip onto this type of fabric like a vice. However I did ask questions, and I was assured that all of their dresses, tops, and skirts come in multiple fabric choices. I would definitely want to take a look at items they have in some other fabrics. But overall I would rate this four stars out of five.

Next lets take a look at the two separates I was sent, the Perfect T and the Leggings. I got the Perfect T in a size XL and you can see the size chart here. And the Leggings I tried in the Tall & Curvy size. You can see the Leggings size chart here. With these two items I wanted to show you them paired together (which I assume they were in a way intended for me to try them that way) and separately as I would actually use them.

First let’s look at the two pieces together, and then I will give you my thoughts on the items and show them styled separately.

LuLaRoe Perfect T in an XL and the Leggings in the Tall & Curvy size

Back view of the LuLaRoe Perfect T and Leggings on a Plus Size woman

When I took the Perfect T out of the package, I have to be honest and say I was a little apprehensive. The pattern was okay, but the colors just didn’t appeal to me offhand and the cut I was just sure was going to make me look one to two size larger than I am. I have had similar cuts that always seem to make me look pregnant. But this is why I always encourage people to try things on even if its something that is outside of your comfort zone or something you think isn’t your color or cut. You just never know till you try. So once I put it on I really loved the top. It is probably my favorite thing sent. It is both comfortable and figure flattering. I could definitely see myself purchasing more of these in the future. Overall I would rate the Perfect T five out of five stars.

The Leggings I feel a little more torn about and I will have to explain to you why. How many times have you heard those online arguments about whether leggings should be worn as pants or not? Most of those arguments arise because there are actually two types of leggings in the world. There are leggings like this which once they are on thin out and slight hints of your skin are visible, and then there are thicker fully opaque leggings. This particular type I personally would never wear out in public as actual pants, and I sometimes have a hard time even considering them leggings, to me they are more like footless tights. I wear them more in the fall and winter under skirts and dresses. I also think they are a little long in the leg for me. So I don’t dislike them, that is not the issue. I think if I view them as footless tights I would probably give them four stars out of five, but if I think of them as actual leggings I would have to make it more like three stars out of five. But again, with the exception of the length these are really more about personal preferences. Nothing bad to report about these.

Now I want to share with you how I would actually style these two pieces separately.

LuLaRoe Perfect T paired with jeans

LuLaRoe Leggings under a dress.

I think the most obvious thing is that the colors look so much different paired with these other clothes. And its not one of those things where it looks different because of the lighting. It looked different in person as well, even inside.

Overall, I have to say my first impressions of LuLaRoe are good. I want to say thank you so much to both Jessica and Beckie. I know it is incredibly hard to pick out clothing to try and suit other people’s tastes, especially when you don’t know them. I personally have tried a couple of those styling boxes where they pick out clothing for you and have never had success. These two ladies did a much better job in the first try.

Now on to the fun stuff, the Giveaway!

These two ladies want to give one of my lucky readers a $50 gift card. So yay!! The gift card is only usable with specifically them, and the giveaway is only available to residents of the US or APO addresses outside the US.

As usual there are a couple of required tasks you must complete to be entered, but there are also lots of other tasks that are optional to help you earn extra entries.

Entry to the giveaway will end on December 12 at midnight. After verification of entry the winner will be contacted no later than December 14th. The winner will have 48 hours to claim their prize, if at that time the prize is not claimed we will move to the next name drawn.

Attention: Just a note, with previous giveaways there has been confusion regarding where to comment. The comments must be left at the bottom of this page, not in the Rafflecopter box. In the Rafflecopter box you only need to say something like commented or done. You are also welcome to copy the same comment you left on this page, but it isn’t necessary.

Last week Society Plus started their Black Friday Sale early and will be running it till the 27th of this month. If you caught my blog post with my Society Plus Black Friday Wish List then you already knew about this. Some items have long sold out, but I am still hopeful they will be restocked before the sale ends. And I do promise to keep you guys notified if that happens.

But I did get some of the pieces in from the list I created and I wanted to share with you what they look like. Have you always wanted that 90’s clueless look and felt like you just couldn’t achieve it because no one ever made it plus sizes? Well now they do. Thanks Society Plus!

Outfit from Society Plus

The jacket is the Anastasia Lace Jacket. It zips up about 3/4 of the way up. Long sleeves and two zippered pockets in front.

Back view of the Anastasia Jacket and Cher skirt from Society Plus

As you can see there are also lace panels in the back of the jacket.

Outfit from Society Plus to create a 90's Clueless look.

With the jacket I have on the Lakynn Faux Suede Scoop Crop Top and the Cher Plaid Mini Skirt in Gray/Charcoal.  I ordered everything in an 18/20, which is my usual size. One tip, I suggest ordering up a size in the crop top if you have a large bust like me. These don’t have as much stretch as the crop tops from the summer. I am exchanging sizes for mine.

If you are wondering about the accessories, here is what I have on with it.

The necklace is a 9 PCS Classical Women Gothic Fashion Choker Necklace Set that I found on Amazon a while back.

The boots are from the Journey Collection that sells often in Zulily’s Wide Calf Boot Botique.

Let me know in the comments below if you have already got any of these pieces, and if so are you loving them?

Goth And Grunge Goes Soft And Romantic For Fall

Plus size ootd soft goth and grunge mix look.

If you always been that girl who always wanted to try a goth or grunge look but were afraid it would just be too much for you, then your time has arrived. The 90’s are back in a big way. Soft goth and soft grunge are two of the biggest looks for fall. It’s still goth and/or grunge, but its a little softer, a little more feminine, and a lot more romantic looking.

Take all those elements you associate with either of those looks and add some lace, some soft edges, and add in a sprinkling of color.

For me one of the great things about fashion, and makeup, is there are no real rules. Why not take small elements of those things you like and incorporate it into your everyday wear. Or mix grunge with goth. The only limits you really have are your own imagination and of course any work week rules that may be enforced at your job. Don’t be afraid to experiment.

As we move through the next couple of months, maybe longer, I think you will find me playing around with mixing in a lot of these pieces in my wardrobe. I really loved a lot of edgier pieces when I was younger, and I really am happy to have some of it back.

Just a quick reminder my typical size at most true plus size brands is 20W or 2X. And my bra size is 40DDD verging on a G cup depending on the brand.

plus size Soft grunge and soft goth

You can’t really tell from the picture, but I am wearing the Torrid Multi Zip Jeggings in the Dark Wash. Since the top covers the zipper detail, here is what they look like.
In most Torrid Jeggings I can size down to an 18W, but these seem to fit more true to size and I need the 20W. However I feel like these fit me the best out of any jeans I currently own. Most of the Jeggings line fits me well, but I like the way these actually taper close to my ankle. If you have a really thick ankle, this may not be a good fit for you.

In addition to the great fit I love the zipper detail. It gives them a bit of an edgier look than your average jean. Sometimes it’s just about those little details.

Plus size outfit from Lovesick, Torrid, and the Avenue.

The plaid top I have paired with it was purchased last year from Torrid. They don’t seem to have any of them this year or anything similar. But I did find this Plaid Lace Up Back Bustier which could go towards creating the same sort of look.
Over that I have on the Hacci Open Cardigan from Lovesick. Mine is in a rich berry color, but they sold out of that color almost immediately. But I have linked you to the black one.

Mixing styles for fall to acheive a soft grunge and soft punk look.

My shoes are a pair of Cloud Walkers from the Avenue that I bought two or three years ago. However if you would like something that gives you a similar look you could try the Easy Street Women’s Arlene Boot. It’s available in multiple colors and it comes in wide width.

You can easily accessorize with a choker or half gloves. Play around with what makes you happy.

So tell me in the comments below if you plan on incorporating these types of pieces into your wardrobe or do you feel intimidated by these styles? Were you around in the 90’s when these styles were at their height before? And if so did you try them then?
