All Dress April 2018 – Week Four & Five

All Dress April

All Dress April

I really wanted to have this posted way before now, but this past weekend really took a lot out of me. I feel like that is the story of my life, but I am doing the best I can with my life circumstances. I think a lot of you get that, and maybe that is why you have stuck with me as readers of this blog. My life isn’t always Instagram perfect and I am going to be real about that.

But let’s focus on the positive. We are here now, and I am finally able to focus and am back to a semi livable energy level. So let’s talk about what I wore the last two weeks of All Dress April. I bunched the fifth week in with week four since week five was only two days long.

If you haven’t seen the previous weeks and want to get caught up, make sure to check out week one, week two, and week three.

Day 22

Wearing Forever21 Plus on day 22 of All Dress April

On day 22 my outfit is from Forever21.

The top is their Off-the-Shoulder Lettuce-Edge Crop Top. It is not a super short crop top, and since I have the skirt raised higher, you wouldn’t even be able to tell its a crop top. But this particular style from Forever21 Plus does work really well for those of us with larger busts.

The skirt is also from Forever21, it is their Scuba Maxi Skirt in Black and White. This however it is currently sold out. They do have some other items in black and white that you may want to consider. Check out the Striped Wide Leg Pants, Striped Scuba Knit Skirt, and the Faux Leather Striped Mini Skirt.

Day 23

I missed this day.

Day 24

Day 24 of All Dress April and I am wearing Reb Dolls

This is from Rebdolls. It is their “Rumor Has It” Maxi Skater Set in White. There is only a couple of sizes left in this set, so if you are interested, check it out quickly.

This was my first time ordering from Rebdolls, but I was pleasantly surprised at the size range and quality of what was offered. I did purchase one other item, which you will see soon hopefully. And I believe this won’t be my last time ordering from them, so more in the future.

Day 25

Wearing Simply Be for day 25 of All Dress April

On day 25 I decided to wear another Simply Be dress. And this one is still available. It is their Embroidered Stud Mesh Dress. I have it paired with some Aerosoles Pumps that I have had for a long time.

Day 26

On Day 26 of All Dress April I am wearing head to toe Amazon available items.

I think my outfit from day 26 was the most popular on social media out of all of my looks from the month, or at least it got the most comments and requests for the links. I purchased this look to wear to Pride this year, and I thought I would share it with all of you ahead of time. This look, head to toe, is available for purchase on Amazon.

The dress is the Summer Fashion Plus Size Rainbow Print Sleeveless A-Line Mini Dress. I am in a size 3XL. I do think the dress runs true to their size chart, or possibly a little large. The fabric does have a lot of stretch.

I have it paired with:

My unicorn shoes were in white, but unfortunately they don’t have that color left anymore.

Day 27

Day 27 of All Dress April and it is the first day of the International Steampunk Symposium

Day 27 brought me to the first day of the International Steampunk Symposium. I didn’t actually get a picture of my costume that day, but I had this picture of the exact same thing I wore for Time Traveler’s Weekend at the Ohio Ren Fair. I actually think I did share this look before, but I am not 100% positive about that.

The dress is from Torrid’s Dr. Who Collection. And while this dress is long sold out, they do have a couple of sizes left in a similar dress. My boots are from Avenue, but they are long sold out. However, Torrid has several styles of lace up boots that would work well. To complete the look I have on a black felt derby hat from Spirit Halloween.

Day 28

Day 28 of All Dress April and day two of the Internationa Steampunk Convention

Day 28 and day two at the International Steampunk Symposium. This is the one and only picture I managed to get of my costume that day. Unfortunately it doesn’t show the whole costume. But once again, it is something I have had a picture of from a previous year, and nothing new here on the blog. The picture below is from two years ago in the same costume.

Unicorn Queen costume at day two of the International Steampunk Symposium

The black top is from Spin Doctor, but it has long since sold out. If you are looking for something similar, then you might try this Hell Bunny Scullion Blouse. The corset is a Daisy Corsets Women’s Top Drawer Cotton Steel Boned Overbust Corset With a Zipper Front in Navy Blue. My skirt is from Hips & Curves. It is their Victorian Bustle Skirt.

The accessories were both bought on Etsy. The necklace is from Dr. Brassy, but her store is currently empty and from my understanding may never be refilled again. The headdress is from the BlackUnicornShop.

Day 29

Day 29 of All Dress April and the final day of International Steampunk Symposium.

Day 29 was my last day at the International Steampunk Symposium. This outfit wasn’t complete, as I took off and forgot the jacket that was supposed to go with it. But here is what I have on:

As you can see, most of the accessory items are available on Amazon. I word of warning on the skirt. I have had a few issues with the fabric and seeming quality. But it is much more affordable than the average Victorian costume piece for a plus size skirt.

Day 30

I did not participate this day, I was just too worn out from the Symposium to move.

And that wraps up 2018 of All Dress April.

As a side not: Next year will be a bit different for me. Every since I started participating I have always had the Steampunk Symposium in there somewhere. Usually it is at the end. But next year things the Symposium got scheduled for a month earlier. So for those of you who look forward to the costumes, I will try my best to still do a post related to the Symposium. I am super excited about the theme that has been announced for next year. It will be Fantastic Beasts. Lots of plans have already started. Let me know in the comments below if you would like some posts about things I am making for costume and various things my steampunk group is doing.

Are Apps The New Ebay? Three Places To Shop For Plus Size Clothing and Beauty Products That Will Make You Forget Ebay Was Even A Thing

For years I have been both an online seller and buyer. Most of those experiences, like for many people looking to either sell or to purchase a good bargain, were spent with eBay. While I still do occasionally buy or sell a few items on eBay, over the last few years it has been on a serious decline for both. I have tried out buying and selling on a few other websites, I have even tried out some Facebook groups, but most of them just don’t have the exposure or amount of people involved to really have the potential most people are looking for.

theres-an-app-for-that

But late last year I really went on a search for new places to buy and sell and I came across some apps people were talking about. I decided to give them a try, and well they are pretty great. I am sure some of you are already using them, but some of you probably have never heard of them. So I am here to tell you all about it. And just so you know, there are way more than just three out there, but these are the top three that I feel comfortable recommending.

1. Poshmark

I have been both buying and selling on Poshmark since January of this year. My experience has been overall a positive one. Though I highly recommend if you are going to get into the selling aspect you join a group for help. One like The Best Poshmark Tips Facebook group is good. There are restrictions on what you can sell, so make sure you read everything before listing to sell. I really like that they made it easy to create a widget so I could share my listing and some of my favorite sellers with you guys.

And if you are new to Poshmark, if you sign up using the code JUPTZ you will save $5 off your first purchase. I don’t think there is any kind of minimum purchase requirements either.

I have lots more up for sale than the few items showing in the widget, that is just to give you a preview. But I wanted to also give you an idea of some the things I have bought from other people and what kind of price I paid.

City Chic Spotty Dot Top in Pink

This is the City Chic Spotty Dot Top. I already had one in gray, and had really wanted this pink one for the longest but they were all sold out. I found one in my size new with the tags on it on Poshmark. I paid $15.

Unicorn HandbagI found these unique unicorn clutches on Poshmark. I purchased the silver one, it has a rainbow metallic look to it in person. I paid $19 on Poshmark.

m_565caec4feba1f94a6039b64I needed a tiered lace skirt for the new steampunk costume I put together this year. I found this new with tags Torrid three tier skirt. The seller was originally asking $17, I ended up paying $13.

That is right you can negotiate on Posh. Though here is a solid tip for those looking for a bargain, most sellers don’t mind you asking for a deal but don’t be offensive with your requests and take no for an answer. For instance if a seller just put out a brand new item you think  t’s a little too high, don’t offer less than half their asking price. That is a good way to get blocked by sellers. Most people are already selling items 30% to 50% off the original retail price anyway, and most items on Poshmark are either new or gently used. There are exceptions, so make sure you ask lots of questions before buying if you are unsure of anything.

Poshmark seems pretty fair to both the seller and buyer. When you make a purchase the money goes into a holding account until the transaction is finished. The seller has so many days to ship, if they don’t ship before seven days (though they are encouraged to ship much quicker) the buyer then has the option to cancel their purchase and get a refund. But if the item was shipped on time, when the buyer receives it they have up to three days to inspect it. It is encouraged that you inspect quicker than that, but it is a time allowance for in case you just don’t have time the day you receive. Once you inspect you either release the funds and rate the seller or you tell Poshmark there was an issue. If there is an issue Poshmark has you send the item back to the seller and when they have the item back you get your money back.  It works quite well, and this is my #1 pick for apps to use.

2. Vinted

I signed up for Vinted around the same time I did Poshmark. I haven’t ever listed anything for sale on there, at least not yet. I have bought some things though. It doesn’t look like Vinted has any widgets to share your favorite sellers or anything. But my favorite item I have purchased were these Steve Madden Troopa Boots gently used.

Steve Madden Troopa Boots in Cognac

These retailed for close to $200, but I paid $18 for them on Vinted.

There doesn’t appear to be any code to share for shopping credits, if I find anything different I will update this later.

3. Mercari

I have only recently signed up for Mercari. I haven’t bought or sold anything yet. I decided to sign up because I have heard so many great things from other people I thought it was worth checking out. If you download the app and use the code XMMXCB you will receive $2 off your first purchase.

I thought I would share some things I have found on there that might interest some of you.

Plus Size Top found on Mercari2X UNITY WORLD WEAR WOMAN PULLOVER SHIRT – Seller is just asking $5 plus shipping.

Plus Size BB Dakota Dress found on MercariBB Dakota Lace Sauron Dress in Blue – Seller is asking $10 plus shipping

Plus Size bodycon dress found on MercariNew size 3X – Seller is asking $20 plus shipping.

Plus Size Old Navy dress found on MercariOld Navy Sweater Dress – This is a 4X and the Seller is asking $15 plus shipping.

The items I listed were available to purchase as I was writing this, so I am sorry if they have sold before you saw this. Obviously there are more options available on Mercari in plus sizes than what I have posted here, but I wanted to give you some idea of what is on there.

There is however fewer options in plus sizes here than on the other two apps. But they do have other categories to shop the other apps don’t, like housewares.

Tips For Shopping On Apps

Most people selling on these apps are honest, however people make mistakes and forget to mention things sometimes, and unfortunately there are some people strictly trying to scam you. To make things easy on everyone here are some easy things to make your app shopping experience ten times easier. ask lots of questions.

  •  Read the listing, and then reread it. I can not tell you how many times I have heard people say they were unhappy with purchases, or that it just wasn’t what they expected, but had they read the listing instead of just looking at the title and picture they would have known what to expect.
  •  If you are buying clothing, know your measurements not just your sizing. And ask for measurements. There are no returns on these apps.
  •  Ask lots of questions. If you aren’t sure about something, after you have read the listing, then don’t be afraid to ask. And seller that is being honest with you will happily answer your questions.
  •  Ask for more pictures. If you really like an item but something still doesn’t feel right or they have posted pictures that are hard to see ask for more pictures.
  •  Be patient and courteous to the seller. Try to remember this is not most of these people’s full time jobs. Most people are just selling on their off time to help make ends meet or to clear out their closets. So they aren’t always available to answer your questions immediately.
  •  This is not a yard sale. Haggling on most of these apps is allowed, but don’t offer yard sale prices. Most items are either brand new or like new, so offering someone $5 for an item that was originally $200 is very insulting.
  •  And finally, don’t forget to rate your seller. Keep your ratings based on things like shipping time. Did they answer your questions. Was the item described accurately. So if you receive an item and you decide you just don’t like the way it looks on you, please don’t give the seller a bad rating. You are not rating the item, you are rating the seller and it affects them.

Tips For Selling On Apps

Most buyers are honest and just looking for a good deal. However, just like the occasional seller, there are some buyers who are out to run scams. And if you want to make sure to have done your best as a seller and give the app you are selling through no reason to side against you, then here are some quick tips for selling.

  •  Always be willing to answer questions, even if you have already answered them.
  • Take lots of pictures. Using stock photos are great for details, but always either post or be willing to produce without hesitation actual pictures of your items. This is for both the information of your customer and your own safety of sorts.
  •  Keep a tape measure handy. You can either post measurements in your listing or give them out when asked. I tend to do a mixture. If the brand I am selling is known for being consistent in their sizing I usually wait to be asked. But if I know the sizing is odd for something I will either post it runs small or large, and post measurements.
  •  Be courteous to your buyers. Everyone has bad days, so you may even have someone say things that seem not so nice. Just brush it off and move on. If it’s really bad you can always block them.
  •  Always find out what the rules are for selling and what can be sold on each app or place you are selling.
  • Keep all your records or documentation like pictures and measurements until after you receive a rating from your customer. If for some reason you do have someone open a case against you, you may need it as proof to back up your statements.

I hope these tips help anyone thinking of buying and selling on an app. There really is nothing to worry about, you just need to be informed before buying.

So tell me have you shopped on one of these apps before? Is there another app I didn’t mention you think we should all know about? Have a tip for making shopping easier? Please share in the comments below. And I would love to see some of your favorite purchases.

One Top Styled Two Ways

Two look from the Simply Be Cold Shoulder Blouse

Top From Simply Be Styled Two Ways

I lived on a tight budget for many years of my life. Honestly many of my younger years were spent in poverty. Family helped pay for my wardrobe for school. Purchasing items, even cheap items, would often be a struggle. So I understand for many people that when you buy a piece of clothing for your wardrobe you need it to be able to pair with multiple things to help get the most for your money. That is why I wanted to do some post like these. Not only is the top used in more than one outfit, but everything it is styled with was either thrifted, bought on clearance, or bought on sale.

The top I chose to create the looks with for this post is this top from Simply Be:

Cold Shoulder Blouse

Cold Shoulder Blouse Bright Pink Size 20 [More]

Price: $16.49

The original price was $22.99 and it is currently on sale for $16.49. I believe I paid $18.99 for it. It comes in three other color options: black, cobalt blue, and a color they call cassis(the color shown in the picture) but looks like eggplant to me. It comes in sizes 8 to 28, though some sizes are sold out in some colors. I normally wear a 20 at Lane Bryant and Torrid, and that is what I ordered in this top. It seems to fit true to size.

In look one, I have the top paired with a pair of J2 by JOUJOU Jeans I found on a TJ Maxx clearance rack for $10. They work great because they have a slight pink tint to them. My shoes I bought on Zulily quite some time ago. They are Top Moda brand. I got them for half price, which is $9.99 plus shipping. They are no longer available, however I found a pair on Amazon that is almost exactly the same.

If you happen to have Amazon Prime, since these have free Prime shipping they would come to about the same price as the ones I have. My necklace is one I got in a lot on ebay a long time ago. It was a massive lot of Icing jewelry. The price ended up break down to 50 cents each.

So lets add that up. $18.99 for the top, $9.99 for the jeans, $9.99 for the shoes, and $0.50 for the necklace. That brings the total to $39.47 for look one.

Simply Be Top and Torrid Pants

For look two I have it paired with a pair of culotte pants I got from Torrid back in the spring with Haute Cash. I paid $22.25 according to my receipt. They are all gone now, but I did find something similar on Amazon for a similar price if anyone wants something like it.

Along with it I have on a pair of Montego Bay Club Wedges I found on eBay last year for $1.99. I looked and couldn’t find anything close in price for you guys. But its one of those things you have to be on the lookout all the time to get good deals. My jewelry consisted of the same necklace from before and an added pair of hoop earrings that came from that same Icing lot. That make $1.00 my total cost for jewelry.

So lets add this up again. The top was $18.99, $22.25 for the pants, $1.99 for the shoes, and $1.00 for the jewelry. That makes the grand total $44.23 for look two.

Where the real savings come in is mixing and matching pieces so you don’t have to rebuy. So the real total for two outfits is $64.21. I don’t think I am sharing anything revolutionary here, but I do know some people find it harder to mix pieces with multiple items in their wardrobe. Perhaps it just becomes easier to do for some of us after you have done it for years out of necessity.

Feeling The Magic of A Full Sweep Skirt

Magic full seep skirt and boohoo plus bodysuit

I love getting dressed up, and I am always looking for reasons to do so. So when a friend came into to town last week and we met up for dinner, it gave me a chance to try out my Magic Full Sweep Skirt and Boohoo Body Suit.

Magic Plus size full sweep skirt and Boohoo Plus Bodysuit

The skirt is the full sweep skirt from Magic. I bought mine at a local wholesale store. I will go back soon and see if I can find more to put up in my store because the day I had this on so many people were asking about it. I will make sure to post if I do get my hands on more of these. In the meantime, I did find an place online that carries other colors of it.  Alight seems to carry it in three colors. You can get it in pink and yellow flowers on a black background, red and purple flowers on a green background, or red and white flowers on a black background.

These skirts are very flowey, and they definitely make you want to twirl.

Magic Full Sweep Skirt and Boohoo Plus Bodysuit

As for the fit, I typically wear a 20 or 2X at both Lane Bryant and Torrid. In Magic Brand I wear a 3X, it most definitely is sized as a Juniors Plus brand. The length is obviously Maxi length, but it is definitely on the long side even for that. I am 5’8″ and I am wearing it pulled up at an empire length. If I were to try and wear it at my waist I would have been tripping over it even with the wedge heels I had on.

As you can see I have it paired with a Bardot style lace bodysuit.

Magic full seep skirt and boohoo plus bodysuit

This bodysuit was from Boohoo Plus, but it is unfortunately no longer available. However, they do have the Plus Jodie Lace Neck Bardot Bodysuit that is very similar in style. The fit for most of Boohoo is pretty average. They are a UK brand, so keep that in mind when ordering. But I do order a 20US or 24UK size.

I also had paired with it Isaac Mizrahi Pink Coral Peep Toe Wedges in Wide Width that I found on eBay. It looks like the seller still has them available in a few sizes too.

Magic Plus Size Full Sweep Skirt and Boohoo Plus BodySuit

I have tried to incorporate several pictures of this outfit, maybe more than I would with the average outfit post, because I really wanted you to be able to see this skirt from various angles and in action. And to be honest the pictures still don’t do it justice. The fabric alone is perfection and every step you take makes this billow fabric roll around you.

My Must Have Winter Accessories

One of the simplest things you can do to update the look of your wardrobe is to add some fab accessories. And if you are on a budget, its probably the most wallet friendly too. And the great thing about most accessories is that you don’t have to shop in a separate department. Everyone has access to the same items, if only the clothing would catch up.

1. Steve Madden’s Faux Fur Neck Warmers

I fully admit I am a little obsessed with Steve Madden. I love his shoes and purses, and now these. The neck warmers are great for me as I love the look of a scarf, and I own a bunch, but I find them awkward sometimes. They always seem to unwrap or fall of my shoulders. With the neck warmers you just put them on and forget about but you still have that great accessorized look. I own one in the color shown, as well as a cherry red one. You can find similar ones at Lord & Taylor for $48.00.

7a28c6faf6edc04e7aea821f464df959

Or if you want to save money, you can either do what I did by waiting till they show up on Zulily or check out a similar item at Icing.

2. Faux Leather Fingerless Gloves

I love a fingerless glove, so why not mix in one of the seasons hottest trends with it. Faux leather is everywhere this season and I am loving some of the ways I have seen them mixed with fingerless gloves. I especially like the look of these half gloves. $_57

As you can see they come in many different colors. And they are so affordable. Get them for only $1.55 on eBay. If you like the idea, but this isn’t the style for you, a simple search on eBay for faux leather fingerless gloves will turn up a huge selection to choose from.

3. Ear Warmers

They come in all sorts of styles, fabric, and colors. But I have to say my favorite style is the ones that look like headbands. My ears always get cold in the winter. I don’t particularly like earmuffs because they are hard, and they always seem to be in the way. With the headband style, which headbands are something I would normally wear anyway, fashion and function can meet. I really love this style with the removable bow.

il_570xN_652278668_qtxnYou can find these on Etsy for $45.00. The fabric colors for both the band and the removable magnet bow are fully customizable. I know a pair of these is going on my Christmas Wish List. But if $45.00 is just not in your budget there are many other more affordable options on eBay and accessory stores like Icing. One of the more popular styles are a knitted version. If you know how to knit or if you are crafty, you could easily make your own.

4. Lace Necklaces

I really love the look of lace on jewelry, and it is just now starting to get popular enough for there to be a nice selections of colors, styles, and materials. You can get everything from traditional lace to metal that looks like lace, and I love them all. I think my favorite though is the combination of real lace and beads like this one.

5194f7c3d862ed38549dec682214318f_image_280x274

This one is found on eGifts2u.com for $25.00. You can find these in so many places now, there is something for everyone’s taste and budget.

I want to hear back from all of you. Do you like my picks for accessories? Did I leave off your favorites? Don’t forget to post pictures of you in your favorite accessory.

My Steampunk Circus Halloween Costume

It Halloween season and I have already been to my first party. I wanted to make sure I got this post up, because there is still time to get things ordered for anyone that is only going to dress up for actual Halloween. This year I did a play on a steampunk costume. I really like steampunk, but I prefer feminine colors so I made mine a steampunk circus costume.

Hanging out with Mideval Wonder Woman (aka my bestie Jenny) and a Zombie Bride (aka my other bestie Jenna)

To get the clothes to achieve this look:

The Hat – I made mine and will be selling some in the future, but until if you are not the DIY type you can find similar here.

The Bodysuit – I bought mine from Lane Bryant’s a couple of years ago, and while it is no longer available they have one that will work just as well and probably keep you warmer. You can find it here.

The Corset – I bought mine years ago at a Cacique store, so they obviously no longer have it. However, Hips % Curves has one that is very similar and will work perfectly for this look. You can find it here.

The Gloves – I purchased on eBay. You can get them here.

The Petticoat – I bought this from Hips & Curves a couple of years ago for another costume, but they still have it. It is their Ruffled Two Layer Petticoat. You can find it here.

The Garter Belt – I purchased mine from Lane Bryant’s a few years ago, and while they no longer have the exact style I have on you can find a similar style here.

The Thigh High Pantyhose – I purchased these from Hips & Curves specifically for this costume. You can find them here.

A close up of me and Wonder Woman (aka Jenny) at the party.

A close up of me and Wonder Woman (aka Jenny) at the party.

The lighting really washed out a lot of the makeup I had on, but if your interested in how to do a steampunk look checkout my Halloween Inspiration board on Pinterest. And if enough people show interest I will come back and do a step by step instruction post on how to do the makeup look.

Do you have a great look for Halloween? Please share it with us. Send it in a message to me on Facebook with your name and some info on your costume and I will either post in on the Facebook page or it may even end up here on the blog. I want to see everyone’s creativity.
