Product Review – Vitamin Sea Beauty Sea Kelp & Charcoal – Firming & Polishing Body Scrub

Vitamin Sea Beauty Sea Kelp & Charcoal Body Scrub

If you caught my post titled My First Order From Riley Rose, then you already know that I purchased this Vitamin Sea Beauty Sea Kelp & Charcoal Firming & Polishing Body Scrub during that order.

Vitamin Sea Beauty Sea Kelp & Charcoal Body Scrub

In addition to being my first order from Riley Rose, this was my first time trying anything from the brand Vitamin Sea Beauty. And let me just say now, that is a totally cute name for a brand that uses ingredients from the ocean.

So there were a few things that initially interested me in trying this product. I do use a lot of body scrubs, especially in the summer time. They quit making my favorite one, and I had been struggling to find one that didn’t irritate my Balsam of Peru contact allergy. I usually, not always just usually, have good success with product contain kelp. The same really goes for charcoal. I didn’t see anything that stood out in the ingredient list that would trigger a reaction other than fragrance, and fragrance can mean a lot of things. I don’t react to all types of fragrance. So I felt pretty confident that this might work for me going in.

As you can see on the label this body scrub boasts a few claims. Here is what it says it will do:

  • Scrubs away dry skin
  • Smoothes knees and elbows
  • Clears blackheads
  • Perks up skin

I think the name also implies that it will have some firming properties.

What I personally am looking for in a body scrub. I need something that is moisturizing for my dry skin and that can exfoliate gently, but deeply. I need little to no fragrance, and I am always looking for something that doesn’t contain an ingredient that I will react to. I use scrubs year round on my legs after I shave or wax, and under my breast. You all know that area under your breast where you sweat and if you don’t exfoliate you start to get a rash. I increase my use in the summer because of heat and the an increase in shaving and waxing. I don’t typically get a lot of blackheads on my face, but I do get them on my shoulders, so if it works for that its kind of a bonus.

First let’s take a look at the actual product.

Inside the jar of Vitamin Sea Kelp and Charcoal Body Scrub

This was obviously taken after I had already used out of the jar a couple of time, but it doesn’t really change what you are able to see. You can see the charcoal bits in there if you look close. They have been milled pretty finely, so no big harsh pieces.

A bit of the Vitamin Sea body scrub on my finger

I wanted to get a bit on my finger for a close up so you could get a better idea of this products texture. It’s not like the typical salt or sugar body scrub where it’s really grainy surrounded by liquids. This has almost the consistency of a body butter with the scrub aspect from the charcoal in it. It’s unlike anything I have every personally tried. Even with this picture being so close up you can barely see the bits of charcoal because of how finely milled it is.

I have now used this product for about four weeks. And I use it four times a week approximately. I just leave it in the shower so it is convenient to use when I want. I even packed some in a travel jar when I went on vacation.

I have not had any allergic reactions to the product, which I am really happy about. Of course I am not using it near my face where most of my reactions happen, however I have had reactions in the past to products that got nowhere near my face. The fragrance is super subtle, and it does not linger on the skin after you use it. It smell a bit like the beach after a storm if you have ever been there for that. Definitely not like fake ocean scented candles or perfume, but more fresh and clean. It’s a bit hard to explain beyond that or maybe I am just really bad at describing scents.

I was exceptionally happy with how well it worked at exfoliating under the breast area without feeling harsh. I also think it does a decent job at exfoliating the places I shave. I don’t think it does quite as well as my past favorite I am trying to replace, but this comes closer than anything else I have every tried. As for blackheads, I noticed it does clear out any that are closer to the surface, but any that are a little deeper it doesn’t really touch. I really don’t think I see any difference in the firmness of my skin, but I also don’t think that I have very much skin that isn’t firm in areas I would use this body scrub.

Overall I am really happy with the Vitamin Sea Beauty Sea Kelp & Charcoal Body Scrub. I most likely will be repurchasing this in the future. If you are interested in trying this for yourself then or trying other products from this brand you can find them on the Riley Rose website as well as Vitamin Sea Beauty’s website.

Tell me in the comments if you have tried any of the products from Vitamin Sea Beauty and what you thought of them.

My First Order From Riley Rose

What I ordered from Riley Rose

A few weeks ago I posted a new store alert for Riley Rose. In that post I mentioned I had already placed an order with them. So now I thought I would share what I ordered and how the actual process went.

I placed my order for three item on Monday July 2, 2018, and it arrived on Wednesday July 11, 2018. And it shows it shipped from Los Angeles, CA. So it took just over a week to reach me here in Kentucky from the time I ordered it. Really not bad, especially considering Riley Rose is a new company.

The package that arrived was a plain brown box. If you have received any beauty prescription boxes before, the box is made very similarly, just on a larger scale. And on the box they had placed a large sticker of their logo to make sure we know where it came from.

Riley Rose Logo Sticker on the shipping box.

When you open the box, written on the lid is “I could give up shopping but I’m not a quitter.” And on the interior is several layers of various types of filler. I’m including pictures of all of it.

Inside the lid and first layer of wrapping from Riley Rose order.

Second layer of wrap in my Riley Rose order is they own tissue paper.

Third layer of wrap in my Riley Rose order

I am not entirely sure what this third layer is. I haven’t gotten anything like this in any other order from any other company. It is almost as thick as a blanket, but seems to be made out of something like thick paper towel. I am guessing it is some sort of recycled material they are using for packing, but it just seemed like the oddest thing to me because of how thick it was and the texture. If any of you know what it is for sure or have received something with this material let me know in the comments.

I did think that the Riley Rose print tissue paper was super cute. The color coordinating air pockets were a nice touch. And I love the little extra bit of cute with the print inside the box. This brown paper was the final layer of wrap. It would have been nice if it had matched the pink theme since the rest all seemed to color co-ordinate, but that’s just me. Sometimes I like to go over-board with the matchy matchy.

And under all that was my order.

What was in my first Riley Rose order

The packaging was definitely secure. I don’t think you would have to worry about anything rolling around and breaking. And the box itself is very sturdy. Something pretty heavy would have to fall on it before it could be crushed.

Now let’s take a look at what I actually got in my first order.

Sea Kelp & Charcoal – Firming & Polishing Body Scrub bought at Riley Rose

First I got this Sea Kelp & Charcoal – Firming & Polishing Body Scrub from Vitamin Sea Beauty. I love a good body scrub, especially in the summer time. I have never tried this brand, but I have pretty high expectations.

SOO AE Intense Repair 3Day Hair Treatment

My hair is still feeling the after effects of the last shampoo and conditioner review I did. So I decided to pick up this Intense Repair 3Day Hair Treatment from SOO AE. I am really hoping this will help repair my hair so I can get back to the hair care reviews.

SOO AE Keeping Glow Coconut Jelly Mask bought from Riley Rose

Finally I picked up this Keeping Glow Coconut Jelly Mask also from SOO AE. I picked this up because even though my skin is doing some better, it’s still feeling dry AF. Besides, coconut cures everything, right? But seriously, my skin really is dry and I haven’t every tried one of these Jelly Masks before. So I picked this one up.

What I ordered from Riley Rose

That was my complete order. I know it was a small order, but I really just wanted to be able to review the order process. I will try to post some reviews of these products for you later once I get a chance to try them out. Also, if there is something specific any of you want me to try out and review from the Riley Rose website let me know in the comments. I am always happy to do that for the readers of my blog.

Top Ten – Liquid Foundations and BB Creams For Dry and/or Textured Skin

Top Ten Liquid Foundations and BB Creams

You know I love a series here on the blog. So here is another series, Top Ten. For right now I will be sticking to various beauty and skin care favorites. I will see after I get finishes with everything if I want to move on to another area. Only time will tell.

Top Ten Liquid Foundations and BB Creams

As you can tell by the title of this post, our first Top Ten will be Liquid Foundations and BB Creams for Dry and/or Textured Skin. I wanted to make sure I covered this because I always seem to have a hard time finding information on the face products for dry skin.

These won’t be in any particular order of favor, just a list of ten. I have decided to mix both liquid foundations and BB Creams because they serve a similar purpose, just a different amount of coverage. This is probably going to be the only makeup list where you won’t find any drugstore picks, though there is definitely at least one option that is priced like a drugstore brand. While I certainly like drugstore brands for a lot of things, there are only a couple that don’t contain a derivative or chemical twin of Balsam Of Peru, and unfortunately I don’t find them to be great on my dry textured skin.

1. boscia B.B. Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 27 PA++

s1339035-main-Lhero

This probably has the least amount of coverage out of all of the ones I am including on this list. This is one of a couple that I like for good skin days and I just want to go really casual, but I want more than bare skin. I have heard some people complain that this has shimmer in it. Don’t be concerned if you see this in yours. What you are actually seeing is the physical sunscreen that is used. Once the product is applied to your skin it is no longer noticeable.

2. Clinique Even Better Makeup SPF 15

Clinique Even Better Makeup SPF 15

As funny as this may sound, this is the foundation that got away. And I will explain. I had received some samples of this awhile back. None of the shades on the sample card matched me, but there was one close enough that I gave it try since I wasn’t really going anywhere that day. I loved the way this one wore and made my skin feel. And if you read up on this foundation you will find it has almost skin care like qualities. Top it off with a price that isn’t bad. I was excited to find a color match. I made my way to Sephora the next week and promptly found out that Clinique just does not make shades that matches me. But I honestly still wanted to include this in the list for all you ladies who have more of a red undertone to your skin. It really impressed me that much, someone should be wearing it.

3. Baviphat Urban Dollkiss All in One A to Z Cream

Baviphat Urban Dollkiss All in One A to Z Cream

This is the most economical choice out of the group selling for just $12.00. Out of all of the BB Creams that made the list, this has the most coverage. Maybe it’s because this is more than just a BB Cream. It is a multi-function all in one cream base, acts as BB, CC and primer. I even use this sometimes as an under eye concealer.

4. Marc Jacobs Beauty Genius Gel Super–Charged Oil–Free Foundation

Marc Jacobs Beauty Genius Gel Super–Charged Oil–Free Foundation

This is the one with the most coverage on my list. It is listed as a medium coverage, however I feel it is closer to full coverage. This one works well on dry skin, but not as well on textured skin. It won’t settle in fine lines, so it also works well for aging skin.

5. Hourglass Illusion® Hyaluronic Skin Tint

Hourglass Illusion® Hyaluronic Skin Tint

If you love all things Hyaluronic Acid like I do, you may fall in love with this foundation. It behaves like a BB Cream with the coverage of a foundation. Great for mature and dry skin. It has that great cooling sensation that you get with any product with Hyaluronic Acid. And like all products from Hourglass it is fragrance free and made without the harsh chemicals.

6. Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45

Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45

There are four different Dr. Jart+ BB Cream formulas. This is one of the two that I have on this list. This is the most moisturizing formula they have, and it will leave you with a dewy look. I really love the dewy look, but this one I always feel I have to use a setting powder with or it will transfer.

7. Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm

Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm

The second BB Cream I like from Dr. Jart+ is this Black Label One. Almost as moisturizing, but the finish isn’t quite as dewy. This one is recommended for normal or combination skin, but I feel like it works just as well on my dry skin. I never feel like I have to use a setting powder with this one, but when I do I still don’t feel like I look dry.

8. stila Aqua Glow Serum Foundation

stila Aqua Glow Serum Foundation

This gives you the dewiest look possible and a head start on highlight. This one always wears perfectly on my dry skin. In a lot of ways I would say my skin might even look better after wearing it. The cap which doubles as a dropper has a learning curve to it, but it’s not too hard to figure out. This is one of the more expensive ones on the list, but from my perspective it is worth the price.

9. NARS Sheer Glow Foundation

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation

This gives the most natural looking skin out of the foundations that I have listed. It has sheer to buildable coverage, hence the Sheer part of the name. Now since it has the Glow in the name you might think it will have a radiant dewy finish like the stila foundation, but it does not. The foundation is more of a Satin. There is a glow but it is very subtle.

10. Josie Maran Vibrancy Argan Oil Foundation Fluid

Josie Maran Vibrancy Argan Oil Foundation Fluid

This one also has a dewy radiant finish, but it is somewhere in between the NARS foundation and the stila one. As you can see this foundation won the Best of Beauty Award from allure last year. I think out of all the foundation choices, this one has the potential to work with the most skin types.

Let me know in the comments below what your favorite foundation is. And let me know what you would like me to push to the front of the line for this top ten series.
