Flamingos At A Garden Party? – Checking Out The Bourbon Social

1467388722754My husband and I recently went to the Beer, Bourbon, and Bacon Garden Party hosted by The Bourbon Social. And honestly I don’t think that I can think much that would say Kentucky more than a Garden Party involving Bourbon and bacon.

It was a beautiful event held on the lawn at Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate. When we arrived there were all kinds of signage posted to direct us where to go.

After we signed in there was a photographer there to take our pictures.

One of the great things about attending events like this is meeting other people, networking, or just running in to other people you already know and having a great afternoon of conversation. For instance also in attendance was my friend Nancy Pauley and her husband Eddie.

Nancy owns and operates Pinot’s Palette. If you are in the Lexington area you should check it out. It one of those places that you drink wine and paint. Sounds like a blast right?

There was really quite a crowd there though, so many interesting people to meet and mingle with.

But obviously what most people came for was the Beer, the Bourbon, and lets not forget the bacon. Because who doesn’t like bacon? No one I know, because I don’t have time for that kind of negativity in my life. Haha, just kidding! Sort of. But really, lets talk about what everyone came out for.

For anyone who wasn’t a Beer or Bourbon drinker, Lover’s Leap Winery was there with a selection of their wines.

From that point on each table had pairings. So there would be an alcohol selection and then a food paired with it.

At this table we had three beers from West 6th Brewing, a local brewery here in Lexington. They had their Snakes in a Barrel Beer. It was pair with a selection of fresh fruit, crackers, Artisan Cheeses, Snakes in A Barrel Beer Cheese, Bourbon and Brown Sugar Dip, and Caramelized Onion Dip. Then second they had the Snakecake Beer. It was paired with Pulled Pork Potato Skins with Snakecake Chipolte BBQ Drizzle. And last, but not least they had their Cocoa Porter. And I am going to try and tell you what it was paired with, but it was one of the few things that was not listed online and the picture of the sign was not clear enough to read, but here goes. It was paired with a dark chocolate cupcake, with what I believe was bourbon vanilla icing, and a piece of candied bacon on top.

At this table they had Barrel Bourbon served neat from batch 007 (how funny is that). It was paired with Beef Sliders with Pork Belly, Ghost Jam, and Fried Onion.

At this table they had Black Saddle Bourbon Whiskey. It was paired with chocolate candied cayenne bacon.

13490701_1798980907015460_1766874512758138868_oAt this table they had Bourbon Mary’s (or you know the Kentucky version of a Bloody Mary) made with Ol’ Major Bacon Bourbon. It was paired with a pimento cheese stuffed cherry tomato with Ol’ Major Bacon Bourbon Jam. I couldn’t have any of the Bloody Mary’s to try because of my allergy, but they let me try a bit of the Bacon Bourbon, and I loved it. I will be buying some for myself.

13575942_1798980770348807_2042050997182711722_o And the last table had Kentucky Mule’s made with Bib & Tucker Small Batch Bourbon. It was paired with Bacon and Jalopeno Deviled Eggs.

There was live music playing through the event.

My husband and I had never had a chance to visit the Henry Clay Estate, so we made sure to take a walk around. One of the things that really stood out was the beautiful English Style Strolling Garden.

So we took a stroll and made sure to stop for lots of pitures, and of course a few selfies.

2016-06-19 15.58.34I was wearing the Flamingo dress from last years Retro Collection at Torrid. It is no longer available, but if you like flamingos you might like the Flamingo Print Sundress that they still have. And I have on my White Skechers Wedge Sandal with it. Seriously you can’t find any wedges that are more comfortable.

2016-06-19 15.55.56We had a great time. Its always nice to find something different to do. And my husband really enjoyed himself and wants to go back. I think that says a lot for me. Its really hard sometimes to find things to do that we both enjoy outside of the norm. And I for one don’t like living in a rut, so I will be attending more events in the future.

If you live in the central Kentucky area and are interested in finding out more about the Bourbon Social, you can check out their website at http://www.thebourbonsocial.com/. Or you can follow them on their Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. I want to give an extra special thank you to the Bourbon Social for giving me the okay to use their pictures.
