Black Friday And Cyber Monday Sales 2018

Black firday and cyber monday deals

Its that time of year again, turkey and family followed by days of deals. This is always the time to get the best deals on Christmas gifts or just something special for yourself that you wouldn’t normally splurge on.

Black firday and cyber monday deals

That’s right it is time for those Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Just like last year I will continue to add to the list over the next few days as I find things, but this is going to be the majority of it.

Yes some of the links are affiliate links, but not all of them. Each year I try to give you only a list of the stores I believe to be giving a great deal that you can not get the rest of the year from that store, or at least not most of the year. And just like previous years, this will consist of mainly plus size clothing sales, but it will also have some beauty and other types of products. And this year I have added a section for subscription boxes as well. I will make it easy and list in categories and then in alphabetical order. So, if you are looking for Torrid, look in the plus size fashion section and then look for the T’s. Store names will be clickable and all their sales will be listed below their names.

Subscription Box Review – Yes! Oh Yas! September 2018

The items included in the Yes! Oh Yas! September 2018 box

It’s that time of year again where I am back to doing subscription box reviews. I wanted to make it a point to start a few weeks earlier this year so you would have plenty of time to plan out any subscriptions you wanted to get for gifts this year.

This year I will trying my best to review subscriptions you haven’t heard about and the ones you are curious about. Today we are starting with a beauty subscription box I recently heard about on Instagram. They only started this year. So I am really excited to share it with you all.

Service Name: Yes! Oh Yas!. Today we are looking at what was sent for the month of September 2018.

Price: It is $14.99 a month plus $3.99 shipping for US residents.

Where Is It Available: It is available to all US residents and to Canadian Residents for an additional $9.50 for shipping.

Who To Get It For: Yourself or anyone else that loves makeup. This seems to be a great one for someone who is just starting their makeup collection or someone looking to try indie makeup brands.

What You Get: You get three to seven full-sized products every month. (I thought I had read when I signed up that at least one product was guaranteed to be a palette, but it doesn’t seem to say that now. However, looking at previous months and spoilers for future months, it seems to hold true. I guess they just aren’t  guaranteeing it now.)

As a bonus, the website currently says that any one who completes a full years membership with Yes! Oh Yas! will receive a free limited edition box worth $200-$400!

Drawbacks: For me there were not any with this box. However, if you like a box that has a mix of items (meaning not just makeup), maybe this would not be the subscription for you.

The Details: Your subscription arrives in a bag, at least this months did.

Yes! Oh Yas! Subscription arrives in a bubble mailer

I have seen pictures of previous months where they arrived in boxes, but I think most months they come in a similar bubble mailer bag.

One of the first things you should pull out of the bag is a note card with a list of products included and their prices.

Card with products listed that come in this months Yes! Oh Yas!

As you can see the total value of $119 by their calculations. Now as I am doing a post like this for a Subscription Box Review, I am often going to product pages to link to. And I think their calculations were off a bit. I think this months was actually worth a few dollars more, depending on how you look at it. I will mark the difference by the products as I found them.

This months subscribers received four items. Let’s have a look at what we got.

The items included in the Yes! Oh Yas! September 2018 box

Starting at the top and working downward:

  1. Aesthetica Pro Brush Series – This is a 3-piece eyeliner, brow & spoolie brush set. This sells for $45.00 on Aesthetica’s website.
  2. Chella Matte Lipstick Pencil – This pencil is supposed to last for hours of wear while keeping your lips soft and hydrated. I received mine in the color Naughty Nude. I do not know if everyone received the same color or not. It sells for $18.00 on the Chella website. This was an error on the info card sent which read $20
  3. Glo by Glory Glo Stix Semi-Matte Liquid Lipstick – I received mine in the color Honey Bun, its described as a Mocha Brown Nude. Again I am unsure if everyone received the same color or not. These sell for $18.00 on the Glo by Glory website.
  4. Naked Cosmetics Holographic Highlighter Collection – Six stunning iridescent shades. From rose quartz to ultra-violet, opal to emerald, and sapphire to gold. This palette sells retail for $39.99, but it is currently on sale for $29.99. This was the other item with a price discrepancy from the card. If we go by the original price the box is worth a few dollars more. If we go by the sale price, then its a couple dollars less. I suppose it could have been on sale for the price they listed on the card at the time Yes! Oh Yas! purchased it.

I think I personally am most excited about that highlight palette. But I don’t feel like I got any bad products in this box.

Let me give you a look at the colors of the products, so you can see what they really look like.

Inside the boxes of products I received in the Yes! Oh Yas! subscription

I really like that the palette has a magnetic closure. I don’t have to worry about it staying closed.

Make sure you are following me on Instagram and Facebook as well. I most likely will post some additional pictures there, possibly some swatches.

Where To Sign Up: If you are interested in trying this box out for yourself you can sign up on the Yes! Oh Yas! website.

Final Thoughts: Overall based on value and what I like I am very pleases with this subscription. I am actually able to use everything that I received, which is kind of rare for me in a subscription box. The value versus what you spend is just phenomenal. I don’t think I have tried any of these brands before, and I really like trying new companies. So I will definitely continue with this one at least for a bit to see how they progress.

Let me know in the comments what you thought of this box. Do you think this one will have staying power? Are you considering signing up? And as always let me know what boxes you want to see me review before December. I can do two more than what I currently have planned and I would love to hear your feedback.

Beauty Product Review – Farsali Volcanic Elixir

Farsali Valcanic Elixer

I am sure many of you are familiar with the brand Farsáli. Several of their products, like their Unicorn Essence, have become beauty blogger sensations and have blown up on social media. One product in particular I had not heard about was the Volcanic Elixir. At least I hadn’t heard about it till it landed in Sephora earlier this year.

Farsali Valcanic Elixer

Because of my personal experience with volcanic essence products in Korean Skincare I was extremely interested in trying out the Volcanic Elixir from Farsáli. If you have followed me either here on the blog or on my Instagram account for any amount of time then you know one of my all time favorite sheet masks is a Volcanic Ash Essence Mask from Esfolio. And while Farsáli is not a Korean brand, the ingredient concepts should be the same.

What The Product Does

I think when you spend any amount of time learning about Korean cosmetics you start to gain an understanding of what ingredients are used for. The great thing about Volcanic related products, in most cases like this one, they are good for all skin types and a full range of skin conditions.

So what does the brand say it does?

The properties of this oil are known to help regenerate skin tissue. The Volcanic Elixir, for this unique reason, can condition broken skin, and repair sun- and acne-damaged skin. It also has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antibiotic, and antioxidant properties — making it ideal for acne sufferers. What sets this oil apart from others, is a certain lipid called calophyllolide; which is not found in any other oil, and is a very strong anti-inflammatory.

The Volcanic Elixir aids in regenerating new, healthy skin. It can be used on acne and acne scars, dry and scaly skin, stretch marks, etc.

So it really seems like the possibilities are endless if you are at either end of the problem skin scale. I’m not sure that you would gain any benefit if you have normal skin, unless you have scarring from the past.

My Skin Care Needs

For me, as you know I have very dry skin with scaley patches and keratin build up in creases (the scaley patches and keratin build up are from my allergy and are not constant). Due to my Balsam of Peru allergy I am fragrance sensitive, and that includes essential oils. I am also sensitive to select other possible ingredients in skin care products.

What You Get

Your product comes in a dark bottle with a dropper. You get one fluid ounce or thirty milliliters of product. The Volcanic Elixir has one single ingredient, Calophyllum Inophyllum (Tamanu) Oil, so no worries for my fellow contact allergy sufferers, unless of course that is your allergy.

I did notice all of Farsáli’s other products seem to come in a second size option, but this one does not. I am not sure if that is something they are planning on adding or not. There is no mention of it on their website, so if anyone knows please tell us down in the comments.

First Impressions

The very first thing I noticed when I got the bottle was how hard it was to open. I don’t know if I got a defective bottle or if they all are like mine, but you have to twist forever and then it suddenly pulls up and it makes it sort of messy. Putting the dropper cap back on seems just as difficult.

Once the lid was open the next thing I notice was the heavy natural, earthy smell coming out. If you are use to using fragrance free products or even some Korean products (depending on which kind) this is a smell you are probably already use to and won’t think twice about. This is noted on Farsáli’s website, so they do tell you before you buy. For those of you who have never tried a fragrance free product before, you may not be prepared. Some people find natural smells offensive. Personally I like them and find it comforting.

The other thing that really stands out about this product when you first start using it is the texture. You can somewhat see it in this picture:

Consistancy of the Volcanic Elixir from Farsali

It is an oil, but what makes it different is that it is very thick and has somewhat of a gritty texture. Now I can feel the texture with my fingers, but once I apply the elixir to my face I no longer feel it.

How To Use It

Like most oils and liquids, you want to shake this up really well before using it each time. The website recommends using it as a night treatment, almost like a moisturizer. I agree for the most part, though I prefer putting an actual moisturizer on over top of it.

I have seen a lot of people on the web saying this is a great face oil for makeup. No, that is not the intended use, and I really can not believe anyone would want to do that with the texture this oil has. While I don’t feel the texture once applied, I have to think that would mess with the look and feel of your foundation.

Final Thoughts

I have been using the Fersáli Volcanic Elixir for close to a month now. I use it about three to four nights a week, and I am considering using it on a nightly basis for a while just to see what happens. I will explain why.

I find that I really like the product. It does have a lasting effect on the dryness of my skin, however on the days I do not use it I see the symptoms of my contact allergy creep back in. So I want to see if I can get a more lasting effect if I do it every day.

But on the days I did use the elixir the night before, my skin looks wonderfully clear. Here is one I took and posted to Instagram recently that was on a day right after using the Farsáli Volcanic Elixir:

A picture of me after using the Farsali Volcanic Elixir

The bottom line for me is I will be repurchasing this product. I love that I don’t have to worry about what the ingredients are and that it is fragrance free. It works well on my skin. And it shows results.

If you would like to try this product out for yourself you can find it at the Farsáli website and on Sephora.

Let me know in the comments if you have tried any of the products from Farsáli and what you thought of them. Should I try something else from their line?

New Store Alert: Riley Rose

The last time I posted about a new store was when Torrid’s sister store Lovesick came around, and of course we know the head corporation has put them on pause for now. But as of recent a few new stores in various categories have come under my radar. Some I found out about because the companies have reached out to me, and some I just happened to stumble upon myself. But I thought since I am still in that period where I am having issues with health, now might be a great time to do some less labor intensive posts like share some info on these new stores.

Shop Riley Rose

Today I want to introduce you to Riley Rose. I found out about Riley Rose when the company emailed me asking me to join their affiliate program. Now if you read my post about affiliate links, you know lots of companies contact me all the time. But 90% of them have no interest to me or have nothing to do with any of the things I blog about. But once I took a look at the Riley Rose website, I knew they were a company made for me and so many of you.

Riley Rose is a beauty and lifestyle brand created by the same company that owns Forever 21. Chances are there is not a store close to you at this point, as they are pretty new and only have a handful of stores. The closest location to me right now seems to be in Chicago. But the great news is we can always order over the internet and they offer free shipping with any order of $40 or more.

Riley Rose Store Front

They carry a variety of makeup, skin care, hair care, accessories, and home décor. And while they are owned by Forever 21, they do carry things that will appeal to all ages. Just in the skin care line alone there is a range of high-end brands, indie brands, Korean/Asian brands, and brands that cater to the all natural lovers. There is something for every budget as well.

One of the things that stood out to me was the variety of brands that they carry are ones that I either already use or had a lot of interest in. The mix is typically ones I would have to shop two or three stores to get, or even in some cases purchase directly from the brand because I can’t find them anywhere else.

I have placed an order with Riley Rose, but we will talk about what I order once I get it. I most likely will do a review at that point. But for now I wanted to share a few of the interesting products that I spotted on the Riley Rose website. Each of the pictures will be clickable if you want to find the product on the Riley Rose website.

Splurge worthy beauty products and tools

Whether you are looking to buy a more extravagant gift for someone else or just splurge on yourself, you want to know that your money is going towards something that is a quality product. To help you I have put together a brief list of items that in my opinion are totally splurge worthy.

Everything included in this list will be over $30, and I believe any beauty lover would be ecstatic to receive these items. If you are looking for something a little more budget friendly, you can check out my list of Beauty Gift Under $30.

For the sake of this post, I am going to divide this into two categories, Makeup & Skin Care and Beauty Tools. Some of these items are available at multiple locations. I will be providing links to either the place I purchased from, or alternatively somewhere you can purchase cheaper. Prices listed are full retail prices and do not reflect any sale prices or possible discounts or additional shipping. So let’s get started.

Makeup & Skin Care

Splurge worthy beauty sets and palettes of holidy 2017

1. Too Faced White Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette –  Sells for $49.00. One of two new palettes released in the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette Collection. This particular palette is filled with soft pastels and a couple of bold pops of color. Like the previous palettes released it has a nice mix of mattes and shimmers. And as always, every chocolate bar palette is infused with real cocoa powder and the smell of chocolate fills the air each time you use it. If you are looking for something bolder or flashier for the holidays, or are just into really cool packaging, you should check out the Too Faced Chocolate Gold Eyeshadow Palette.

2. LORAC Mega PRO Palette 4 – Sells for $59.00. This large palette is filled with 32 highly pigmented shades. It contains a mix of mattes and shimmers. I think this is the most unique Pro Palette LORAC has released. It has a wide range of colors that include both warm and cool tones.

3. Dr. Jart The Original BB Set – Sells for $34.00 (But I found several sellers on Amazon selling for $28.00, so that is where the link leads). This set includes each of the four types of BB Cream from Dr. Jart all in deluxe travel sizes. Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45+ Shade #01 is filled with peptides and antioxidants that smooth skin and even out tone for youthful-looking skin. Radiance Beauty Balm SPF 30 corrects uneven skin tone while brightening and hydrating. Dis-A-Pore Beauty Balm smooths skin’s texture, covers blemishes and large pores, and tightens the look of pores. Black Label Detox Beauty Balm contains purifying botanical actives that soothe and smooth blemishes and camouflage uneven skin tone. This set delivers four subtly distinct finishes, from glowing and sheer to matte and fuller-coverage. If you haven’t tried a Dr. Jart BB Cream before, be prepared to fall in love.

4. Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Smooth & Flawless: Peel + Moisturize – Sells for $48.00. This set includes 14 of the Dr. Dennis Gross’ iconic daily peels and a trial size of the Hyaluronic Moisture Cushion. The Alpha Beta Peels from Dr. Dennis Gross will leave your skin looking great and feeling as smooth as a baby’s bottom. And if you are a makeup wearer it will leave your skin in the condition to be the perfect palette. This is the original formula, but you can also get two other formulas. If you have sensitive skin go for the Smooth & Silky Peel + Nourish Ultra Gentle 14-Day Challenge Set or if you need something a little stronger try the Smooth & Radiant: Peel + Brighten Set.

5. Clinique Moisture Overload Set – Sells for $42.00. This is a three-piece set from Clinique’s Moisture Surge line. You get a 1.7 oz size of the Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief, a 1 oz size of the Moisture Surge Overnight Mask, and a .17 oz size of the All About Eyes. I would recommend the Moisture Surge line to anyone for their skin care no matter their skin type. But if you are looking for a set with a little more variety in it, then check out the Holiday Swag Box.

6. Kevyn Aucoin Electropop Pro Eyeshadow Palette – $57.00. Sells for This palette contains 12 intensely pigmented metallic chrome shades. Designed to create three-dimensional looks. Shade vary from light and sheer to high impact opaque color.

7. Sephora Favorites Give Me Some More Lip – Sells for $68.00. Unfortunately this set is sold out online at Sephora, they are highly popular and for good reason. There is a decent chance your local Sephora will have them in store. If you do not live close to a Sephora then I highly recommend checking out the smaller versions like the Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Bold Lip or if you aren’t a lipstick fanatic you might like the Sephora Favorites Glow For It Kit.

Perfume Subscription Service

Beauty Tools

1.  str8glam Wet/Dry Hair Straightening Brush – Sells for $54.75.

I have very course thick hair. It is very hard to do anything with it. In the past I have tried a lot of tools including flat irons, but never had any success with them working on my hair. But in recent years I have tried a lot of new tools trying to find something to do with my hair. This has been one of the few success stories. It not only straightens my hair it does it quickly and easily. Plus its way less damaging to your hair and no worries about burning yourself either.

2. Valuetom Professional Ceramic Hair Curler with Temperature Control – Sells for $42.99
Another one of my success stories for my hair is this unique hair curler. You may have even seen videos on YouTube of people trying them out and freaking out, or saying they were too afraid to use them. But this is the one and only thing that has worked to curl my hair. I have even had problems with getting perms to hold in the past. Curling by any other means falls out fast. In fact many of you commented on my hair in the BOHO styled post I did with Simply Be a couple of months ago. And this is what I used to get that curl. When I use this on my hair the curl lasts until I wash my hair. It is amazing. It even lets you decide what type of curl you want.

3. Akean Professional Makeup Brush Cleaner and Dryer Machine – Sells for $49.99

Another product that I highly recommend and that a lot of you expressed interest in after I posted the video on Social Media of me using it is this makeup cleaner and dryer. It works fantastic and is a huge time saver. It literally cleans and dries your brushes in just seconds.

Tell me in the comments what your big beauty splurge is.

Product Review – Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color Longwearing Lip Color

Thanks to our friends over at Influenster I got another VoxBox. This time it was a much coveted makeup box. I received the Maybeline Super Stay 24 Color Liquid Lipstick in two colors. I was sent Constant Toast 136 and Keep Up The Flame 025. These lipsticks are available in 30 different shades. You can see a full list of colors available here.

Maybelline Super Stay 24 Liquid Lipstick

Constant Toast looks a little like a light brown nude in the package, but on the lips it looks more like a pinky peach nude. And Keep Up The Flame is a brick red color, though I thought the it looked slightly more like a true red on the lips but not by much.

In my voxbox it came with a card that had instructions for application and a list of product claims. I would like to note that there were no instructions on the actual products on their boxes. I think that without the instructions, this could be a product that could go terribly wrong.

So first lets talk about what the product claims to do. Here is what is says:

Meet the wonder that stretches the limits of longwear lip color, SuperStay 24 Lip color. This longwear lip color won’t cake, dry, flake, or fade thanks to our unique Microflex technology that leaves lips feeling fresh through 24 hours of wear.Sounded great to me, but I was more than a bit dubious. It’s hard to not be doubtful. I have tried so many liquid lipsticks and it seem like you have two option. You can either have the super matte liquid lipsticks that last a long time, but not a full 24 hours. And you still can’t really eat and drink what you want with them on without them wearing off, and usually in a really unflattering way. But with these you have to worry about them being painfully drying, or if your like me and have natural lip creases from birth and dry lips they look horrible on most of the time. Or you can choose the non matte ones, and they will last a little longer than a traditional lipstick and wear away gracefully, but the extra time they last is just not that much. And at least they aren’t painful on the lips. But to find a color that will last through anything and not be drying? Really.

So to give it the best chance of working the way it says it would I also wanted to follow their instruction. Here is what it says to do:

Apply liquid lip color to clean, bare lips. (Helpful tip: if you have dry and/or peeling lips it is best to use a lip scrub and balm prior to application, just make sure to wipe it off prior to use.) Allow two minutes to dry, then apply the ultra conditioning balm to seal in moisture. (Helpful tip: don’t allow your lips to touch during the dry down time.)

Reapply balm as needed. (I found for me personally it was mainly necessary after eating and drinking.)

Remove with an oil-based makeup remover.

The helpful tips parts are my own notes I wanted to share after some trial and error. The rest was what was on the notecard.

I wanted to really test these out fully. It said it would last 24 hours so I decided I was going to wear one of them a full 24 hours even if that meant sleeping in it. So I tested out Constant Toast first because it was the lighter color and I didn’t want to end up with red all over my sheets just in case it did have transfer. I used my cell phone to take these pictures so I would be sure to have a time stamp. So let’s go over how each of these lasted through the day, and then I will give you my thoughts on the product.

Maybelline Super Stay 24 in Constant Toast

Here is a closer look at what Constant Toast looks like. It’s very obviously a nude color. I wasn’t really planning on going anywhere the first couple of days that I tested these lipsticks out, I decided not to bother with any other makeup. I only concentrated on the application of the lipstick and checking in often to see how it was wearing.

Applying Constant Toast

Here I am applying Constant Toast at 5:16 A.M. in the morning. You can see constant toast is pretty close to my own lip color. It’s probably what some people would call a better than my lip color, but I don’t know that I think that.

After applying I had my morning coffee like I do every morning when I first get up.

First check in with constant toast.

And this is my first check in at 5:43 A.M. and everything still looks good.

First time adding lip balm to constant toast

At 8:39 A.M. is the first time I feel compelled to use the lip balm again. I wasn’t to the point where my lips felt painful, but its like it would be on the average day when I would use a regular lip balm.

Seond Check in with Constant Toast

I had to run to my mail box and decided to do a check in while I was in the sunshine. This was at 12:32 P.M. As you can see it still looks fully in tact.

2nd application of balm

When I got back from running my errands I had a light snack and this left me needing to apply the balm again at 1:39 P.M.

Check in after dinner with constant toast

And here is my last check in for the day at 5:37 P.M. after dinner. I did reapply the balm one more time before going to bed.

Last check in for 24 hours of the Maybelline Super Stay 24 Lip Color

And after sleeping in the lipstick all night long here is my last check in after waking up at 5:00 A.M. You can see that it is still there, however some of it has worn off in spots. And of course my lips are a little dry looking. I of course have no way of knowing at what time it started to wear off since I was asleep.

Up next was the color Keep Up The Flame. I felt like I had already tested the formula well, so I didn’t really need to test it to that extent, but I did still do some check ins during the day.

Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color in Keep Up The Flame

It is obviously a brick red color. A little on the dark side, but not super dark.

Wearing Keep Up The Flame

This was not long after I applied the lipstick. It actually looks okay in the picture, but this color was very hard to apply. It kept wanting to slip outside the lip line. Once the dry down happened there were no more problems, it was only while trying to apply it. I wore it a second time and had the same issue, but it was some easier if I wiped a lot of the product off of the applicator.

End of the day wearing Keep Up The Flame

This was more to the end of the day. It was close to twelve hours of wear. I think it help up well considering I had a pretty oily pizza for dinner. There is a little bit of color loss towards the center of my mouth, but that is it. It also looks overly glossy, not really sure what caused that.

My thoughts about this product are this. First let me say, I really would not have ever chosen the colors that I was sent. I did end up liking Constant Toast, but Keep Up The Flame is not a color I would wear again. But I did absolutely love the formula. I think it put every other liquid lipstick I have ever tried to shame. There should be no reason that if this $10 lipstick can make a moisturizing long-wearing lipstick, then the $20 and and $30 ones I have tried can do the same. The one drawback is the selection of colors. They do have 30 different shades to choose from, but most don’t seem to be that different from each other. And there are definitely no fun shades.

I actually loved the formula so much I had to run out and buy some other colors. I haven’t gotten to wear all the colors I purchased, but I wanted to share some of the makeup looks I created both from the two I was sent, and from ones I purchased.

Making Your Beauty Routine Fashionable

If you follow me on Instagram you have seen me post various pictures from my beauty routine and the various masks I use. You can often see in the pictures the various cute and fun headbands I wear during that time. I have received a lot of questions about where I get my headbands, so I thought I would take some time and do a post about where you can find the ones I have as well as some additional options.

I have this ETUDE HOUSE Lovely Etti Hair Band

21uRqD1CksLThis was my first headband I got and it is by far my favorite one that I have. It has plenty of stretch to it that it would fit even someone with a slightly larger head than mine. It is only available in this one color. It sells for a variety of prices on Amazon, but this link was the best deal I could find for you at the moment. It is $4.89 and free shipping.

I also have this Sanwood Cute Cat Ears Headband Hair Band in Black

613LI55N0OL__SX522_I got it because it looked so similar to the one from eTude House, I had hoped they would be just alike but for a cheaper price. It is very similar and I like it, but it does run a little smaller. So its a tad tight on me. Most people probably wouldn’t notice the difference, but I have a slightly larger than average head for a woman. It does have the advantage that it is cheaper, and it comes in four color choices instead of just one. It sells for $3.09 and free shipping.

I have two of the Shintop Soft Carol Fleece Bowknot Elastic Hair Band (pink polka dots)

61128cb2f+L__SX522_

I have it the pink and purple colors. It is very comfortable and lots of stretch. Its also available in a third color. And this one ships from the US, so if you want it quick this one is our best bet. It sells for $7.39 and free shipping for Prime Members.

I have had my eye on a couple of other head bands, and I thought I would share those as well so you can see more options.

51UXHzpM-3L

Women Cute Yellow Polka Dot Bowknot Elastic Headband
Price: $10.25 & FREE Shipping – Comes in 12 color and pattern option.

71qJYExvhWL__SX522_

BMC 3pc Ultra Soft Face Washing Elastic Bow Towel Headbands – Blue Cameo, Pink Stripes, and Red White Polka Dots
Price: $10.25 & FREE Shipping – Second color pack available.

Do you have any of these headbands? Planning on getting some? If you have a different one that you love, I would love to see what you have. Recommendations are welcome.

Caring For My Sensitive Organ – Of Course I Am Talking About My Skin

No matter what your age is, one of the most important things you can do for yourself is take care of your skin. It is after all your bodies biggest organ. Skin care has always been one of my biggest challenges. Earlier this month I shared with you my Contact Allergy To Balsam of Peru, and some of the ways it effects me.

Sensitive-Skin1

While my allergy affects almost every aspect of my life, it truly makes skincare the hardest. It is so hard to find things that are both for sensitive skin and fragrance free. Over the years I have come to find a routine that works for me. I do occasionally try new products, but most don’t make the cut. However I will be reviewing some thing I tried this recently towards the end of the month. But for now, here are the things I use on the regular that I feel really work for me, and I would fully recommend to anyone else.

Exfoliation

453b4f458868fa831043a15ae5acb66d

With my allergic contact dermatitis, one of the biggest symptoms that happens is I have an over abundance of scaly plaque that build up on certain areas of my face, so exfoliation is extremely important. One of the best daily use face scrubs I have found is Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Pore Scrub. It has a nice amount of the fine beads in it to give a full on scrub, but not so much that it is harsh or irritating.

And when I am looking for a more intense exfoliation, which is usually a couple times a week, I incorporate my Clarasonic Mia 2.

ClarisonicMia2-5

Cleansing

0038137001424_500X500

I have for a long time preferred a foaming cleanser. And for quite a few years now my cleanser of choice has been AVEENO ULTRA-CALMING Foaming Cleanser. I will occasionally try something else, sometimes because I want to and sometimes from necessity, but none have been able to compete yet.

Moisturing

07743680401-700I put this as a moisturizer, because it is and that is how its used, but it so much more that that. In addition to moisturizing it also has a cooling sensation and it has a slight green tint to it to help with hiding any redness that you may not want seen. It is really great for that. I have been using Clinique’s Redness Solutions Daily Relief Cream for a few years now, and its a little miracle in a jar for me.

capriclear

In addition to redness I sometimes develop a buildup of plaque on my skin. What I have found most helpful to rid myself of this is using Capri Clear Coconut Oil Spray. (if you visit the link the bottle will look different as they have recently changed designs) I like this one in particular because it comes in an easy to use spray bottle and there is no added fragrances. When I feel I need to use it, I just put some on my face before bed. I make sure to concentrate on the areas where the plaque is the worst, and I just sleep with it on. Of course there many other uses for coconut oil, one look at Pinterest and you could find hundreds, but this is the main way I use it.

Sunscreen

bca77732cf03839cd13d7e2d41e6031a

Sun protection is so important. I think this is probably one of the easiest things for everyone to forget or even think that you don’t need because its cloudy. Because of my mixed heritage I use to be one of those people that never burned, so I never much thought about sunscreen. I use to stay out in the sun a lot, and unlike now my skin use to stay a lot darker. People that didn’t know me back then probably would not recognize me because of how dark I was. After I had to start being on a lot of medication I learned the hard way they came with some nasty side effects centered around the sun. One of which led me to getting First Degree burns from the sun on a cloudy day. If you are going to be out in the sun put your sunscreen on. My favorite by far is AVEENO HYDROSPORT Wet Skin Spray Sunscreen with Broad Spectrum SPF 30. The spray bottle makes it easy to use even for those times when you are alone. So no need to ask a stranger to rub sunscreen on you. And it still works if you spray it on when you are already wet.

Makeup Removal

41aXH91FsFL

Lets admit it, at some point or another we have all done it, we have went to bed with our makeup on. But its one of the worst things you can do to your skin. So I always try to keep on hand some makeup remover wipes. I love these Almay oil free gentle eye makeup remover pads. They are small and fit perfectly over your eye, and even with my sensitive skin has never irritated it.

So what are your favorite skin care products? Is there something you think I should try? If you have a recommendation for me, please keep in mind I can not use scented items. I would love to hear what works for all of you. Have your tried what I use? if so, what do you think of them?

What I Used For Stempunk Costume Makeup

So if you caught my recent post Plus Size Steampunk Fashion – Or How I Became A Unicorn Queen you know the pictures unfortunately didn’t turn out the best. (I most likely will at some point be getting a better camera). However I did take a few face close ups, and I did crop one picture for a better view, so that hopefully you guys can see at least some of the makeup I will be describing. I will be doing some more makeup looks using some of these products during this month so this won’t be your only chance to see them. And as a bit of a teaser/something to look forward to, some of the items I talk about in this post will be in the upcoming giveaway at the end of this month.

I think the biggest challenges of capturing this look with my camera was the bright lighting against the very light colors. So I am also going to show you color swatches from the makeup companies as well. I will only be covering the actual makeup and application in this post and not the skin prep, as that will be covered in a different post.

2015-04-25 13.40.59

If you remember this is how I looked at the con. Lets just start with the general face makeup and I will put up a more close up pictures when we are ready to cover the eye makeup.

I already normally stay pretty pale, but since this was for a steampunk look I wanted to go slightly paler. I took my normal foundation Physician’s Formula Super CC Cream in Light

06234-SuperCC

I mixed with it Manic Panic’s Dreamtone® Liquid Flawless Foundation™/Skin Toner.

MP-Dreamtone-VampireWhite

The link I included above takes you directly to Manic Panic’s website, but if you wish to purchase their items and find it easier, they also sell their items on Amazon.

Once I thoroughly mixed the two, I then applied it with my hands. I do sometimes use brushes to apply my foundation, I do that to get a different effect, but I will cover that in a different post.

I then took Doll Cheeks Blush from Geek Chic Cosmetics

doll-cheeks-3

I really love the color of this blush, but in this particular case I did not use it as I typically would blush. Instead I used it more like you would a contour powder on the cheek area, simply by placing it a little lower than where you would normally for a blush. Now I know you are probably thinking this isn’t really the right color for a contour powder. And that’s where things get a little more complicated. First of all, the color in person is a little darker than it reads in the picture. Second, the undertones in my skin makes it really hard for me to use 90% of most contouring products or even bronzers. Instead of having the desired effects with those products I usually end up looking dirty instead. Where the majority of people seem to have red or blue undertones in their skin, I have yellow to olive. And perhaps if I lived in a larger city where they carried more options for me to experiment with I would find the right thing, but until then I find that blushes like these can work for me. (Though there are some new things you may see some posts about soon.) And third, I blended something over the blush.

Once the contour line was applied pretty heavily, I then took another Manic Panic product called Goth White™ Cream/Powder Foundation.

MP-CreamPowder-GothWhiteI just gently dabbed it on all over the face with the sponge applicator that came with it. It is semi sheer, but can be layered on for a thicker full white look if that is what you want. That was not the effect I was going for though, so I just did one light layer.

Then I applied Slice Of The Moon’s Shimmer Pearl Mica Powder High Shimmer Effect

b007f53fca3abe1a1c87ca0ac0194ec1

Just like with Manic Panic, this company also sells through Amazon if its more convenient for you. I applied this with a small blush brush to the center of my forehead, right above my cheek bones, the tip of my nose, and the center of my chin.

I then began working on my eyes. Now if you happen to be a beginner or have an unsteady hand or just in general worry about fallout, you may want to do this in reverse order. Here is a more close up look at my eyes

2015-04-25 13.39.59

Again, unfortunately not the best picture, but you can at least see the color in this one.

First thing I did was use Geek Chic’s Power Up Primer all over my lids.

untitled

If you haven’t had a chance to use their primer its a little different than most eye primers. It is very thick and verges on being solid till your body heat warms it up a bit. It kind of reminds me of a solid perfume in the way that its made, but its not scented.  I will be honest here and say the this is not my favorite type of primer. That being said, it is a good primer and is perfect for using with loose pigments, anything with heavy glitter or sparkles.

Next I used Ulta’s Eye Crayon in Gold Coast.

Ulta-EyeCrayon-GoldCoast

I used this almost like a second primer. It is very close to my skin tone, and I wanted to make sure I had something under the loose pigment shadow I was going to use to help with smoothing and blending.

Next I used Geek Chic’s Bigger On The Inside, from the Timey Wimey Collection.

bigger-on-the-inside-5

This is a loose pigment that comes in a sifter cup. Using a domed eye shadow brush I applied this color to the crease  and corner of my eyes.

Then I used Geek Chic’s Don’t Blink, also from the Timey Wimey Collection.

don-t-blink-5

Using a small angled eye shadow brush I applied this to my lid and a small thin line just above the crease of my eye. I then took a soft blending brush and gently swept it across my eye.

And then I used Manic Panic’s Glam Dust in Nymph.

$_57

This product was applied to the brow bone using a small eye shadow brush and Manic Panic’s Glam Glue. Now if you go to their website, you will see a product that looks a little different. That’s because the one I have is an older version of this product and used the picture of the one I have because I think it shows the product better. If for some reason you want the older version, you can still find them on eBay, but probably not for long.

On my lips I used MAC’s Matte Lipstick in Heroine.

M2LP93

One of the things I love about MAC’s Matte Lipsticks is their staying power. I did not use any sort of lip primer or foundation under it. And I only had to reapply my lipstick one time the whole day, and that was right after lunch.

Since my skin is not especially oily, I did not use a finishing spray. My makeup stayed all day.

Let me know what you think either here or on Facebook. Since I will be doing at a least a few more makeup looks this month for the blog, let me know what you want to see. And I promise better pictures next time. But seriously, do you guys want to see everyday looks, more costume looks, etc…? I am up for anything.

What to look for soon on the blog…

I Had My Hair Did

Last week I went to the salon and got my hair changed. Its not the most drastic change in the world, but I just wanted something different. And it will be changing a bit more over the next couple of months. Here is what I did:

2015-04-17 13.42.36

On the left is the before, and the right is after. I went from my natural color (a dark chocolate brown) to black with purple tips. Right now the purple tips are very subtle, but over the next couple of months it will be getting much more vivid. And while you can not see it in this picture, it currently looks like a dip dye but will be transforming into a ombre.

My end goal is for it to look more like this:
