Inside The Dressing Room – City Chic And Forever 21 Fall 2017

Inside the dressing room with My Plus Size Life

Inside the dressing room with My Plus Size Life

Its been a while since I have taken you inside the dressing room with me. But I had to run into the mall to take something back the other day and I noticed that my local Macy’s is finally carrying a few City Chic items. I had a little time to spare, so I thought I would try on some things I had my eye on and take some pictures to share with all of you. I visited Macy’s and Forever 21, so there will be some variety in styles.

Now I did try the City Chic items on at Macy’s (there is no local City Chic store where I live), however I will be linking directly to City Chic. Based on what I have seen City Chic has better sales on items than what Macy’s can offer you. Plus shipping is free with City Chic even for returns. You only get free shipping at Macy’s if your purchase is high enough or if they have the item you were looking for in store and you can pick it up there.

Just like any other fashion post I do, I will share what size I tried on as well as any relevant information on fit or quality. For reference I typically wear a size 20W or 2X at most plus size stores like Torrid or Lane Bryant. My measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 43″ Hips: 54″ And I wear 40DDD bra.

So lets start with the City Chic items I tried on at Macy’s. They didn’t have a lot of items available, so I only tried on two here.

City Chic plus size So Fancy Fit And Flare Dress

So Fancy Crochet Fit & Flare Dress

I am in a L or 20 here. It has spaghetti straps, so I obviously do not have on the right bra for this dress, but besides that it fit well in the bust. In general I find the sizing and fit to be essentially the same as Torrid’s. And just like Torrid’s they do occasionally have items that are exceptions to this rule. I probably won’t buy this for me because of the pleats. I don’t really like how this type of pleating lies on me. I think this dress would look best on someone that’s body shape is an inverted triangle.

At first I thought this was going to be a bad choice for fall/winter. However after trying it on, it is way warmer than expected. There seems to be almost a double lining. So add a shrug and it should be fine.

Lady Victoria Lace Top from City Chic

Lady Victoria Lace Top

Again I am showing this in a size L or 20. I thought the fit on this one was perfect for me. There was enough extra room at the bottom that this could also work for someone who is more of a pear shape. It does have a built-in cami that is black, but it could easily be removed if you needed or wanted to. I really loved the details on this top, from the collar to the little flutter sleeves. I could easily see this being styled several different ways. And I will most likely purchase this sometime in the near future.

Now lets take a look at what I tried over at Forever 21. Since Forever 21 is a juniors store, that means their plus section is junior plus. I usually have to size up to a 3X, but because of variances in items there are some items I need a 2X. Occasionally I would need larger, but 3X is currently where their sizing starts. (Side note, if you see something blurry and white on some of the pictures, it’s not the clothing. Forever 21 just has dim lighting and really smudged mirrors.)

Plus Size Lace Up Sleeve Dress

I tried this on in a 3X. I thought this dress fit okay. The sleeves fit really well, and I liked the lace up detail. The body fit a little snugger than I personally would like. I might have been okay with the tightness if it were done in a different material. But at $23.00 there is an element of “you get what you pay for”.

I tried on with it this Sequin Hooded Bomber Jacket. I can not find this on their site, but if you like it, its worth looking in your local store. Mine had lots of these. These jackets should work for any body type.

Plus Size Lace-Up Tube Dress from Forever 21

Plus Size Lace-Up Tube Dress

I also tried this on in a 3X. I actually picked this up initially to try on because I thought it was a skirt. They had it hung oddly. But I decided to go ahead and try it on to share. Again I thought the fit was okay, but in a different way than the previous dress. The top looked and felt like the right tightness, but I didn’t feel like it was secure at the very top. I thought the bottom also looked fine, but it felt very tight across the hips. And the length was indecent in the back. I feel like this would fit someone who is a perfect hourglass the best, and it probably would look good on someone who is an inverted triangle as well.

Plus Size Fuzzy Sweater and Plus Size Lace-Up Mini Skirt

Plus Size Fuzzy Sweater

and

Plus Size Lace-Up Mini Skirt

I have on a size 3X in both pieces here.

The skirt I thought fit well and was made out of a great fabric. I liked the lace up detail, but I didn’t think they stood out as much once it was put on. I also think it would be better paired with something different from this sweater.

The sweater also fit great, and it felt great on. I think it will work for many body types but will probably look best on someone with and apple shape. This is supposed to be a crop sweater, and since its not a form-fitting one, I was glad it was on the longer side. However since its barely crop length, if you are on the short side it may not read as crop on you. I really loved this sweater, and I would have purchased it, however I noticed it sheds horribly. So be aware of that.

Plus Size Mesh Trim Bralette and Plus Size Sheer Mesh Tee from Forever 21

Plus Size Lace-Up Mini Skirt,
Plus Size Mesh Trim Bralette,

and

Plus Size Sheer Mesh Tee

The skirt is the same one from the previous outfit.

The bralette is a size 3X. It fit perfectly and I did buy it. It is padded, but removable padding. Honestly the way it is made makes it look more like a crop top rather than a bralette.

The top is in a 2X. I also tried a 3X, but it was really loose on me. I thought this fit well in the 2X. It was comfortable, but again I probably would not pair these tops with this skirt.

Plus Size Stripe Lettuce-Edge Top

Plus Size Stripe Lettuce-Edge Top

This is a 3X. The fit was again perfect in this item. I thought they worked well with the Dark Wash Jeggings from Torrid I had on. It does not call this a crop top on Forever 21’s website, but it definitely fits me the same as the crop sweater I tried on. I did end up purchasing this for myself.

I also wanted to take a minute and give a shout out for Forever 21’s bralettes. In addition to the one I showed here in the post I also tried on and bought their Plus Size Lace Bralette in a size 2X. If I had wanted a tighter fit I probably could have worn a 1X in this one. Probably the most comfortable yet supportive bralette I have tried yet. Looks like they are almost sold out online. I really hope they will consider making them a permanent part of their collection.

As always I want to hear from you. Tell me in the comments below if there is a store you want me to order from or go take you in the dressing rooms with me. I know the frustration of trying to figure out what your size is in a brand. I want to help make that easier for all of you.

How Art Has Been Ahead On The Body Positivity Game

Art Loves Your Body

Art Loves Your Body

I have talked a few times about my love of art here on the blog. In fact one of my very first dates with my husband was going to a valentine’s day event at a local art gallery. We both love and appreciate various types of art. So it’s really not unusual for us to visit an art gallery, or some sort of tourist attraction surrounding art, when we go on vacation. My most recent vacation in September was no exception. We visited The Ringling while we were in staying in Sarasota County.

In addition to having a lot of fun and relaxation on our vacation, I also found a lot of inspiration. One of the things that inspired me, as you might have guessed, was walking around the Ringling Fine Art Museum. This is just one of four museums you can visit at the Ringling. I found as I was walking around their Fine Art Museum I was really thinking about how body positive art is and has been since the beginning of art. I was especially struck by this thought when I came upon this statue. (I apologize for the quality of any of the pictures I am sharing from my trip, but there was a lot of odd lighting and you can not use flash photography in an art museum)

In the museum I couldn’t find the usual tag that tells the name of the artist or piece. I didn’t see anything other than the signature at the base of the statue. You can see the signature says G. Lachaise. After a tiny bit of research I found this piece was done by Gaston Lachaise, a sculptor of the early 20th century. I couldn’t find the actual name of this piece, but I found that he was known for his sculptures of women, most of who were voluptuous in form.

Every day in our media we are inundated with messages that women are only supposed to look one way. And while that look has changed from time to time over the years, it is still only the look that is popular at the time. But when you walk through an art gallery, it is much more like a celebration of all body types and is representative of real women through time.

Here are just a couple of the pieces I found that I loved during my walk through the museum (paintings will be on the left, and their information tags will be on the right.)

Don’t get me wrong, I am not suggesting that a walk through your local art museum is going to suddenly make everyone love their body as is. What I am suggesting is it is a healthier representations of women’s bodies than what is offered in the media currently because there are so many types of bodies represented in art. And I think having those representations of all bodies is the first step in accepting your own body.

There are also these false ideas we get sold about fat bodies through watching TV and movies. And, unfortunately, those ideas sometimes come from health professionals that should know better. We have this idea that there were no fat bodies until the last thirty or forty years. Or sometimes you are told there were exception during a short period of time that being fat was a symbol or your status and money. And while there is truth in that last statement, the first time you walk through an art gallery of any size and really think about what you are seeing you realize what bull shit the rest of it is.

We might have more fat bodies walking around today than in previous times, but there are many reasons for that. Those reasons are really a topic for another time.

It’s important for future generations that we continue to have those artistic representations of fat bodies. Thankfully there are already artists out there doing just that today. Here is a short list of some of the artist I personally love, please go show them some love.

  • Butter n’ Honey – An artist local to me located in Lexington, Ky. Amongst other things, her art includes curvy mermaids, fairies, and other cuties.
  • Joanna Thangiah – An artist based in Sydney, Australia. Her art is mainly focused on feminism and quite often features fat bodies.
  • The Tiny Hobo – I have talked about this artist on the blog before, her art is pop culture and icons shown with fat bodies. I am linking to her website. She did have an Etsy shop previously, but it seems to be gone now.

Tell me in the comments below who your favorite artist is that includes fat bodies in their work. Who should we be following and supporting?

Must Have Wide Width and Wide Calf Boots Of Fall/Winter 2017

Shirleen Color-Block Ankle Booties from Fashion To Figure

In the past I have shared with you the best place to find wide calf boots of various widths. But today I want to share with you what is hot right now, and the must have boots for this season that are available in wide widths and/or wide calf. Whether you’re looking for a casual pair of everyday boots or something to make you feel super sexy, this season has it all. With each pair I am sharing I will post the brands description as well as any comments I have and size information.

Right now some of the hottest boots (and clothes) are in lush fabrics like velvet and suede. This is a total trend alert, and I suspect this one will go well on in through the winter. Hope you live in an area that gets cool enough to take part in this one. If you haven’t worn these fabrics before be aware they can get very hot. Here are my top picks for this trend.

Kimberly Velvet Over The Knee Boot

Kimberly Velvet Over The Knee Boot

Looking for the wow factor? Try these lush, velvet wide width over the knee boots. The almond toe and chunky heel add a little something extra to this stylish boot.

This is from Avenue’s Cloudwalker collection, so they are comfortable as well as stylish. Available in two colors, black and burgundy. Sizes 7 to 13 in wide width. It has approximately a 17 inch circumference along with a lace-up calf and a stretch goring panel for comfort.

Lace up back of the stretch velvet wide calf boots from the AvenueI just got a pair of these myself in black, so expect to see these show up in a few of my styled post this winter. I have to say I was a bit surprised when I received them. It calls them velvet, but in person it feels more like what I would call satin. They went on easier than I expected, and are probably some of the sexiest boots I have ever owned.

Circus by Sam Edelman Velvet Rhinestone Combat Boots

Circus by Sam Edelman Velvet Rhinestone Combat Boots from Torrid

An amazing, exclusive collection at Torrid presented by Circus by Sam Edelman. Rich and sumptuous wine red velvet lends a nostalgic, 90’s twist to these comfortable combat boots. The lace up front features sparkly, shiny rhinestone on the tongue.

I suspect these won’t last long, so if you want them get them soon. They come in sizes 6 to 13 wide width. They do come in half sizes, which don’t see very often. And they are made exclusively for Torrid.

Heavenly Soles Embroidered Ankle Boots

Heavenly Soles Embroidered Ankle Boots from Simply Be

The embroidery trend reaches from head to toe and these soft suede boots from Heavenly Soles are sure to make a statement. All-over embroidery detail, block heel and inside zip. Wear with your favorite denim. Find them at Simply Be.

If you want to hit multiple trends, these are the definite ones for you. They are available in sizes 6 to 11 and widths E and EEE.

Another trend we are seeing this year in boots, and somewhat in clothing just not as much, is bright and bold colors. I am a big fan of bright and bold colors from neon to jewel tones, but we usually just don’t see those sort of tones for fall and winter. So I personally think its great to be able to play with these colors all year round. Here are my favorites for this trend.

Faux Suede Ankle Boot with Block Heel

Faux Suede Ankle Boot with Block Heel from Lane Bryant

A pointed-toe ankle boot from Lane Bryant. It has a faux suede upper and block heel. Elastic goring. Back-zip closure. Padded footbed.

Add a pop of blue to your outfits this season with these fantastic ankle boots. They would look fantastic with everything from jeans to dresses. Available in sizes 7 to 12 wide width.

Shirleen Color-Block Ankle Booties

Shirleen Color-Block Ankle Booties from Fashion To Figure

The Shirleen ankle booties  from Fashion To Figure give a nod to mod with color-blocked faux suede and a marbleized block heel. Rock this playful statement pair with everything from mini dresses to skinny jeans.

Available in size 7 to 10 wide width. The heel on this one is probably the highest one so far at 3.5 inches, so if that isn’t your thing, this might not be the one to choose.

Heavenly Soles Pointed Ankle Boots

Heavenly Soles Pointed Ankle Boots from Simply Be

Slip into these pointed toe ankle boots from Heavenly Soles and make a statement this season. Soft uppers with v shape detail and finished on a slim heel.

Find these at Simply Be. They are available in sizes 6 to 11 and widths E and EEE.

There are actually a lot of trends hitting at once this season, and I don’t want to end up listing every shoe on the market. So for this last category I want to include some things from various trends, but I think they group well. I think it comes down to the details. Small details, whether it be corset like lacing or embroidery, are a huge thing this season. Here are my picks.

Tall Lace-Up Boot

Tall Lace-Up Boot from Lane Bryant

From Lane Bryant its their tall lace-up boot with a medium block heel. Faux suede. Elastic goring at back stretches for the perfect fit. Side-zip closure.

Available in sizes 7 to 12 in wide widths. While this one is wide widths, I would not recommend this one for someone who needs a wide calf. Lane Bryant’s website says it is a Calf: 13 1/2″ Shaft: 14 5/8″. It is always helpful to know your calf measurement when boot shopping. It will save you a lot of time and frustration.

Lace Up Lace Heel Boots

Lace Up Lace Heel Boots from Torrid

Pick up the call, girl. These boots from Torrid are taking you out for one wild night. The peep-toe, high-heeled, knee-high style gets lucky in sultry black lace and is naughty by nature with a lace up front.

Coming in at 4.75″ high, these heels are definitely the highest on the list. These go beyond just needing to being comfortable walking in heels like the last pair I mentioned being high. You must be experienced with heels to walk in these. But if you can, wow these are hot! They come in both wide widths and wide calf. It comes in 6 to 13. It is available in half sizes as well.

Hamilton Soutache Trim Tall Boot

Hamilton Soutache Trim Tall Boot from the Avenue

From the Avenue’s Cloudwalkers line. Step into luxury with a tall, faux suede wide width boot featuring delicate soutache trim. These boots will be the centerpiece of any outfit.

If you want a boot with some drama but can’t do a heel, then consider these. They don’t specifically say they are made for a wide calf, but the measurement listed is Approx. 17 inch circumference. And boots can typically start to be called wide calf at around 15.5″.

Tell me in the comments below what your favorite trend for boots are this season. Do you have your eye on a special pair?

A Look At Multi-Sac Handbags & A Giveaway

Giveaway with Multi-Sac Handbags

Giveaway with Multi-Sac Handbags

So if you caught my blog post from a couple of weeks ago featuring the Joe Browns Stunning Maxi Dress from Simply Be, then you saw that I styled the dress a couple of different ways. In one of those looks I showed off my purse from Multi-Sac.

After sharing those pictures on my Instagram feed Multi-Sac contacted me and asked if they could send me some things to share with all of my readers. Not only that, but as you might have gathered from the title, I’m not just showing you the purses. That’s right, one lucky reader will win a handbag from Multi-Sac.

But before we get to the actual giveaway I want to talk a little bit about why I like Multi-Sac handbags as well as how to choose the best one for you.

I got my first Multi-Sac a little over a year and a half ago. The first one I bought was the Multi Flare Crossbody Bag in Cognac. I initially chose this bag because I was looking for a bag to use on a trip I was going on. I wanted something that was both functional but that also still looked stylish. When I cam across the Multi-Sac handbags I was instantly drawn in by the way it looked, but I also loved how many compartments this bag had. I really like a crossbody style when traveling as well. I think it gives you the ability to really control access to your belongings if you wear them correctly. And with the Multi Flare Crossbody Bag it is also big enough to hold a Ipad or whatever tablet you use. For me this is a big selling point in a bag, especially for one I want for air travel. I found myself using the bag not only for when I traveled but for a lot of my everyday life. I ended up using my first bag so much it started to fall apart.  The bag I showed in my recent post is my second one, and it was bought just before vacation.

Multi-Sac Handbag , Multi Flare Syle in Cognac

Multi Flare Handbag in Cognac

There are some things to consider, other than just what aesthetics you like, when it comes to choosing which Multi-Sac Handbag is right for you. Do you want it strictly for travel/to use when going to work/going to festivals? What will you be using it for? How much do you need to carry with you? How heavy are the items you are going to be carrying with you? Do you need to be able to carry your tablet in it?

Multi-Sac Handbags come in several styles, fabric selection, sizes, and handle styles that will all play a part in your selection. Anything large enough to carry a tablet will be marked on their website in the description of each handbag. They are available in styles from mini bags to backpacks.

Look at handle style and placement for how much weight each handbag can carry. Multi-Sac makes handbags with a variety of strap styles. The two bags I have purchase from them for myself are at the opposite ends of the spectrum. Starting with bags like the Multi Flare Handbag, they have one thin strap sewn on the interior lining, they will have a lighter weight limit. Styles go all the way up to bags like the Reflex Tote, where they have two very thick handle straps sewn onto the exterior material. This will make it capable of carrying a much heavier weight. But Multi-Sac offers handbags in all sorts of strap types that are in between these two. At the end of the day no matter which handbag you pick from Multi-Sac, I am sure you will love it as much as I do mine.

And now I am sure you all anxious to hear about the bag that is actually being given away. One person will win this brand new three tone Multi Flare Handbag. In fact it is so new it’s not even out in stores yet, at least this color combo isn’t. If I understood the note attached correctly it is due out sometime next month. And I believe this color combo is  Warm Taupe, Chino, and Sand.

So if you win this bag, you will be one of the first people to have it. You can visit Multi-Sac’s website for the specs on the Multi Flare Handbag, you just won’t see this exact color since it isn’t available yet.

A Few Notes About Entering The Giveaway:
Please note that the giveaway is open to US residents only.

The first three entries are required, if you do not complete all of the first three entries (and they must be done correctly) you will not be entered in the giveaway. They aren’t anything difficult or time-consuming. I only ask that you leave a comment on this blog post and follow both me and Multi-Sac on Instagram. All other possible entries are optional but will give you extra chances to win if you choose to do them. And one option can be done daily for extra entries into the giveaway.

In the past people have been confused about where to leave the blog comment. You must leave it in the comment section on the actual blog post (not one of the pages the blog feed appears on). Also the Rafflecopter box is not where you comment, you must scroll to the bottom of the blog post to find the comment section. In the Rafflecopter box you only need to post done or your name or something so that it counts you as posting a comment. If you are not seeing a comment box when you scroll down but instead see other blog post, you are on one of my web pages and not the actual post. Try clicking on the title of the post and it will take you to the right place to comment.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Last day to enter will be 10/25/17. Winners will be announced on various social media accounts as well as here on the Rafflecopter box by 10/27/17. Winners will have 48 hours to claim their prize. If winners do not claim their prizes within 48 hours a new winner will be drawn.

Hidden Gems Of Amazon – Afibi Women Full Length Blending Chiffon Maxi Beach Skirt

Hidden Gems of Amazon

Hidden Gems of Amazon
I actually purchased this skirt much earlier in the year intending to share it with you all when most people would buy warm weather clothing. But as many of you know life and health has hit me hard this year. I considered just not posting since it is so late in the year, but I thought “ya know there are people who live in warmer areas and vacation to warm climates can happen at anytime”. So we proceed with this Amazon hidden gem.

For reference I typically wear a size 20W or 2X at most plus size stores like Torrid or Lane Bryant. I am in a 40 DDD bra. My measurements are Bust: 49″ Waist: 43″ Hips: 54″ And I am 5′ 8″

Chiffon Maxi Skirt bought on Amazon

This is the Afibi Women Full Length Blending Chiffon Maxi Beach Skirt. It is available in 27 different designs and sizes Small to 3X. I am wearing here design N7 in size 3X.

I ordered the size 3X because they did not have a size chart available, and no one wearing plus sizes had reviewed the skirt at the time I ordered. I thought it was better to play it safe and order the 3X. I felt this fit okay since it had an elastic waist, but I definitely had a few inches of stretch unused. I could have easily went with the 2X. I think you really should be safe ordering whatever your typical size is.

Afibi Women Full Length Blending Chiffon Maxi Beach Skirt

The waist is elastic with a decorative tie. This particular design has peacock feathers at the end of the tie. As the name of the item says, the skirt is made out of chiffon. The chiffon layer is quite thin and delicate. There is a built-in slip, but the slip only comes to about the top of the knees.

Plus size maxi skirt

I decided to pare this with a different top to show you as well. I think that because of the pattern and colors in the skirt you have a lot of options for what you can pair it with.

Typically now is when I would be sharing what I paired with the skirt. But honestly everything I have with it in both looks was either bought at an outlet and no longer available, or it was in my closet for years already. So unfortunately I have no way to direct you to any of those other items.

, Chiffon maxi skirt available in plus sizes on Amazon

This is really one of those skirts that is great to have on hand for summer for those really hot days when you just can’t even. You know the ones I am talking about right? But it would work equally well to take and wear over a bathing suit on the beach for when you need something to wear when you want to walk right off the beach to restaurant.

Tell me in the comments below what color you would pair this skirt with.

How To Do Travel Skincare And Beauty When Your Allergic To Everything

Travel size skin care products

Okay, so I’m not literally allergic to everything. I’m not even sure that is possible, but I’m not a doctor either. However, if you have read any of my past posts about my allergy to Balsam of Peru, then you know I actually only have one allergy but I react to tons of things. So when I travel, or anyone else that may have a contact allergy, I have to think of lots of little extra things to pack that maybe the average person doesn’t. I can’t just go into a hotel and use the soap, shampoo, etc… that they leave out.

So when you have to pack all these extras they can really start to take up a lot of space or you have to go buy a gazillion travel sized containers to put your stuff in. Over time you start to develop new tricks to make the load lighter, especially when you get into air travel and want to make sure you don’t have to check your baggage.

If you have been following me over on Instagram or Twitter, then you probably know I just recently went on vacation. It was during this time that I thought, why not do a blog post about the kinds of things you pack and why. So I snapped a few pictures of various things I took with me while on my trip. Let’s start from there.

Travel size skin care productsFrom left to right Earth’s Recipe Moisture Bound Cream, Iceland Micro Hydrating Eye Stick from The Saem, Baviphat Urban Dollkiss Secret Recipe Rice Sheet Mask, and Hera Purifying Cleansing Foam.

Products I took with me on vaccation

Going clockwise from bottom left. Neogen Code 9 Gold Black Caviar Essence & Gold Tox Tightening Pack, Goodal Waterest Lotus Water Cleansing Tissue, and the Luseta Coconut Milk Shampoo & Conditioner Set.

This particular trip was a road trip so I had slightly more freedom in how much I packed, but I still didn’t want to let it get out of hand. In order to save space I have taken to packing sample and travel sizes as much as possible. And of course sheet masks are always convenient to pack, and so much lighter than a bunch of bottles of essence.

If I can get my usual products in a travel size, I definitely hold on to them. Your probably thinking, but buying travel sizes is more expensive. And they would be if I were buying them purposely, but I have several ways that I have started acquiring these smaller sized products without spending extra money over what I normally would.

So here are some of the ways I started getting convenient sizes to travel with.

  • First anytime you make a purchase online from a beauty store like Sephora or Ulta, they always give you samples. If the samples I am given are my choice, then I try to pick anything I know works for my skin first.
  • If I can’t find a discount code when shopping at those places, then I always scan for codes that give me travel size products or deluxe samples as a bonus. Sephora is especially great for this option.
  • The various subscription boxes I get almost always include some sort of sample size or travel size products in them each month. The ones I recommend the most for this is the Sephora Play Box, Glossybox, and BomiBox. They all usually include at least a couple of either samples or travel sizes and they are all on the more affordable side of beauty subscription services. BombiBox is a Korean beauty subscription and always is a safe bet for me to find something that is safe for my skin.
  • If you shop at Walgreen’s and are a rewards member, try checking out at the beauty counter or shopping online and many times you will find sample sizes in your bag/order. Now if you have sensitive skin like me, this option is probably the least likely to yield usable skin products, but you might get a cosmetic sample that also work well for travel.

You may not always be able to get free samples or have things save up like I talked about. I get that these may not be feasible for everyone. But if you find yourself in a bind and you need to purchase some smaller sized items for an upcoming trip, here are the easiest places to get them.

Tell me in the comments below if you have any tips on how or where to get sample and travel sized items at little to no cost.

Plus Size OOTD: How Do You BOHO?

So the wonderful people over at Simply Be contacted me and asked if I would like to help show some of their clothes to my readers, and I gladly said yes. The great thing about the clothing at Simply Be is that they have something for every style. Whether you go for the most casual of look or you want something more fashion forward Simply Be has it.

They told me to pick something myself from several different categories. Dresses was one of the categories, and since I am a dress girl I concentrated my search there. I had a hard time making a decision because they have so many styles I love. I ultimately wanted to make sure I showed something that a little different from anything I had shown previously, and that they still had fully in stock all sizes. This ultimately led me to this Joe Browns Stunning Maxi Dress .

For reference on sizing, my measurements are bust 49″ waist 42″ hips 54″. I typically wear a size 20 or 2X in most plus size brands. I have made almost all of the pictures clickable in this post so you can see details of the dress or fit more close up.

Joe Browns Plus Size Maxi Dress available at Simply Be

This dress is available in US sizes 8 to 28. I had a hard time deciding on a size because I had heard that this brand runs small. However, this is my usual size 20 that I am showing here, and this is what I thought:

The fit was great, especially in the waist and hips. And if you are on the bustier side, this might be a great dress option for you. I had plenty of extra room there both on the sides and with the adjustable straps. The length was great for me at 5’8″. I think the length is going to work best for anyone 5’6″ to 5’10” (this is just my opinion and may differ based on where you like for your dress to hit), however if you are shorter I really don’t see anything that would prevent you from having this one hemmed.

This does have an interior lining that hits just above the knee on me. There isn’t really any stretch to the fabric, so make sure that you order the size that you need, and not something your counting on stretching to fit. The straps are wide, yes wide enough to wear with a bra.

The pictures do not do this one justice, it is even prettier in person. I love the BOHO style and all the little unique details this dress has. There is a tasseled tie cord at the bust. And embroidery abounds. You have an embroidered bib and two stripes that run parallel down the front of the dress. And in the embroidery there are tiny yellow gold sequins dispersed throughout.

I think one of the great things about the BOHO style, especially with more minimalistic looks like this, you can really accessorize in a lot of different ways. While you might think of boho as being very plain, at the heart of it the boho lifestyle is all about being a free spirit. So why shouldn’t you be free to do what you want and wear what you want with a look like this. So I actually decided to style this dress a couple of different ways.

Joe Brown Stunning Maxi Dress paired with Bear Claws and a Multi-Sac

I kept the same minimalistic makeup for both looks. I also have curls in my hair for both looks, but with this one I kept my hair like I normally wear it with no accoutrement. I paired it with the BareTraps Jeeny sandals, the Reflex Tote from Multi-Sac in the color Hazel, and Flip-up Round Lens Metal Frame Sunglasses. Check out each of the accessories closer up below.

With the second look I still wanted to stay kind of simple, because that is more true to who I am and what I like 80% of the time when it comes to accessories, but I also wanted to do something that read as being a little more glam to me.

BOHO GLAM look with Joe Browns and Simply Be

For this look I stuck with all black and gold accessories. I really wanted to play up the accents of gold from the sequins on the dress. I changed up my hair just a tad. And the only thing I changed about my makeup was the color of lip gloss I had on.

Joe Brown Dress from Simply Be Styled with Urban Expression, Avenue Sandals, and other accessories

For my accessories I added a gold chain headband that came from a three-piece set I got on Amazon just recently. It’s really thin, and you can just barely see it in the picture. But in person it looked great with the dress and gave it a slight 70’s flare. I have on a lace butterfly choker that I have had for a while. The purse is a fold over crossbody bag from Urban Expressions. The shoes are the Sybil sandal from the Avenue’s Cloud Walker line. Check out the close-ups below.

I really think this is a dress that you will not regret adding to your wardrobe. There are so many more ways you could style this dress. And what a great dress for festival wear. And don’t forget to check out all the other great clothes from the Joe Browns line at Simply Be, as well as all the other wonderful brands of dresses. They really do have something for everyone.

Tell me in the comments below how you BOHO. How would you style this dress? Do you prefer a more minimalistic boho, boho glam, boho chic, etc..?
