Product Review – Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color Longwearing Lip Color

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Thanks to our friends over at Influenster I got another VoxBox. This time it was a much coveted makeup box. I received the Maybeline Super Stay 24 Color Liquid Lipstick in two colors. I was sent Constant Toast 136 and Keep Up The Flame 025. These lipsticks are available in 30 different shades. You can see a full list of colors available here.

Maybelline Super Stay 24 Liquid Lipstick

Constant Toast looks a little like a light brown nude in the package, but on the lips it looks more like a pinky peach nude. And Keep Up The Flame is a brick red color, though I thought the it looked slightly more like a true red on the lips but not by much.

In my voxbox it came with a card that had instructions for application and a list of product claims. I would like to note that there were no instructions on the actual products on their boxes. I think that without the instructions, this could be a product that could go terribly wrong.

So first lets talk about what the product claims to do. Here is what is says:

Meet the wonder that stretches the limits of longwear lip color, SuperStay 24 Lip color. This longwear lip color won’t cake, dry, flake, or fade thanks to our unique Microflex technology that leaves lips feeling fresh through 24 hours of wear.Sounded great to me, but I was more than a bit dubious. It’s hard to not be doubtful. I have tried so many liquid lipsticks and it seem like you have two option. You can either have the super matte liquid lipsticks that last a long time, but not a full 24 hours. And you still can’t really eat and drink what you want with them on without them wearing off, and usually in a really unflattering way. But with these you have to worry about them being painfully drying, or if your like me and have natural lip creases from birth and dry lips they look horrible on most of the time. Or you can choose the non matte ones, and they will last a little longer than a traditional lipstick and wear away gracefully, but the extra time they last is just not that much. And at least they aren’t painful on the lips. But to find a color that will last through anything and not be drying? Really.

So to give it the best chance of working the way it says it would I also wanted to follow their instruction. Here is what it says to do:

Apply liquid lip color to clean, bare lips. (Helpful tip: if you have dry and/or peeling lips it is best to use a lip scrub and balm prior to application, just make sure to wipe it off prior to use.) Allow two minutes to dry, then apply the ultra conditioning balm to seal in moisture. (Helpful tip: don’t allow your lips to touch during the dry down time.)

Reapply balm as needed. (I found for me personally it was mainly necessary after eating and drinking.)

Remove with an oil-based makeup remover.

The helpful tips parts are my own notes I wanted to share after some trial and error. The rest was what was on the notecard.

I wanted to really test these out fully. It said it would last 24 hours so I decided I was going to wear one of them a full 24 hours even if that meant sleeping in it. So I tested out Constant Toast first because it was the lighter color and I didn’t want to end up with red all over my sheets just in case it did have transfer. I used my cell phone to take these pictures so I would be sure to have a time stamp. So let’s go over how each of these lasted through the day, and then I will give you my thoughts on the product.

Maybelline Super Stay 24 in Constant Toast

Here is a closer look at what Constant Toast looks like. It’s very obviously a nude color. I wasn’t really planning on going anywhere the first couple of days that I tested these lipsticks out, I decided not to bother with any other makeup. I only concentrated on the application of the lipstick and checking in often to see how it was wearing.

Applying Constant Toast

Here I am applying Constant Toast at 5:16 A.M. in the morning. You can see constant toast is pretty close to my own lip color. It’s probably what some people would call a better than my lip color, but I don’t know that I think that.

After applying I had my morning coffee like I do every morning when I first get up.

First check in with constant toast.

And this is my first check in at 5:43 A.M. and everything still looks good.

First time adding lip balm to constant toast

At 8:39 A.M. is the first time I feel compelled to use the lip balm again. I wasn’t to the point where my lips felt painful, but its like it would be on the average day when I would use a regular lip balm.

Seond Check in with Constant Toast

I had to run to my mail box and decided to do a check in while I was in the sunshine. This was at 12:32 P.M. As you can see it still looks fully in tact.

2nd application of balm

When I got back from running my errands I had a light snack and this left me needing to apply the balm again at 1:39 P.M.

Check in after dinner with constant toast

And here is my last check in for the day at 5:37 P.M. after dinner. I did reapply the balm one more time before going to bed.

Last check in for 24 hours of the Maybelline Super Stay 24 Lip Color

And after sleeping in the lipstick all night long here is my last check in after waking up at 5:00 A.M. You can see that it is still there, however some of it has worn off in spots. And of course my lips are a little dry looking. I of course have no way of knowing at what time it started to wear off since I was asleep.

Up next was the color Keep Up The Flame. I felt like I had already tested the formula well, so I didn’t really need to test it to that extent, but I did still do some check ins during the day.

Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color in Keep Up The Flame

It is obviously a brick red color. A little on the dark side, but not super dark.

Wearing Keep Up The Flame

This was not long after I applied the lipstick. It actually looks okay in the picture, but this color was very hard to apply. It kept wanting to slip outside the lip line. Once the dry down happened there were no more problems, it was only while trying to apply it. I wore it a second time and had the same issue, but it was some easier if I wiped a lot of the product off of the applicator.

End of the day wearing Keep Up The Flame

This was more to the end of the day. It was close to twelve hours of wear. I think it help up well considering I had a pretty oily pizza for dinner. There is a little bit of color loss towards the center of my mouth, but that is it. It also looks overly glossy, not really sure what caused that.

My thoughts about this product are this. First let me say, I really would not have ever chosen the colors that I was sent. I did end up liking Constant Toast, but Keep Up The Flame is not a color I would wear again. But I did absolutely love the formula. I think it put every other liquid lipstick I have ever tried to shame. There should be no reason that if this $10 lipstick can make a moisturizing long-wearing lipstick, then the $20 and and $30 ones I have tried can do the same. The one drawback is the selection of colors. They do have 30 different shades to choose from, but most don’t seem to be that different from each other. And there are definitely no fun shades.

I actually loved the formula so much I had to run out and buy some other colors. I haven’t gotten to wear all the colors I purchased, but I wanted to share some of the makeup looks I created both from the two I was sent, and from ones I purchased.

Halloween Themed Wedding Guest Look With Lindybop

main

This past weekend I attended a Wedding of two friends that was Halloween themed. They told the guests that they could choose to come either dressed up or dressed in costume. I enjoy costumes, but I also love dressing up, so I opted for the in-between option of what I have often referred to as costume light.

I decided to go with a vintage inspired look, but with a kitchy costume like twist.

Plus Size Lindy Bop Dress

I am wearing the ‘Audrey’ Midnight Blue Cat Print Swing Dress from Lindy Bop. Now I have linked you to their UK site instead of the US site. You can absolutely purchase from either if you are in the US, and I personally prefer the UK site because the sizing make more sense. I wear a US 20 in most brands and styles, and in most styles on Lindy Bop I wear their UK size 24. But the reason I linked you to the UK site is because they are sold out completely of the plus sizes, but the UK site still has some. Also please note that the pattern is slightly different. I am wearing the old pattern from a couple of years ago, the new pattern does not seem to have the subtle circles in it.

Upclose look at the pattern of the black cat Audrey dress

Here is a closer look at the pattern. You know I am a sucker for a cute cat print. If for some reason they don’t have your size left in this particular dress they do have a selection of other cat print clothing and accessories on their website.

Now lets talk accessories, because when you are doing anything in the realm of costume light or vintage, you have to have accessories.

2016-10-22-17-53-55

Obviously I went with a classic red lip and a winged cat eye liner. I found a great easy vintage hairstyle tutorial that just about anyone can do. No special tools needed. I then topped it off with a Black Lace Cat Ears Headband. You can sort of see it behind my hair. It was definitely more visible in person.
Here is a closer look at the headband. The ears are bendable, so you can shape them how you like but you also need to be careful with them.

I also made sure to grab the perfect bag, or at least it was perfect in my eyes. I carried the My Wonderful World Black Cat Ear Cross Body Bag. It is also convertible into a clutch if you wish to use it that way.

Here is a closer look at the bag. You can see that the straps are removable. I was quite surprised at the amount of room available in it. I have a quite large phone case at it was able to fit in the purse and close. Plenty of room for my lipstick, eye drops, keys, and I.D.s.

My shoes are a pair of Steve Maddens that I have had for years. I wish more companies would go back to selling these round toe styles. Anyway, this style has been sold out for years, but I found this CHFSO Women’s Round Toe Ankle Strap Buckle Chunky Heel Low Cut Pumps Shoes in Black. It is a similar style and would look great with vintage style dresses.

cat
These aren’t quite as rounded in the toe, but its close. And the heel is chunkier than mine, but this would be great for anyone that is beginning to walk in heels.

Let me know in the comments below what you would have paired with this dress?

7 Places To Find Wide Calf Boots

Wide calf faux fur trimmed boot from Lane Bryant

Finding shoes to fit wide feet can be a hard task to accomplish. And when you add in looking for boots that also need to fit a wide calf, call it mission impossible. And when you do find a pair they are usually so expensive you need a second mortgage on your home to afford them. Okay that is a slight exaggeration, but that is how it feels at times. Thankfully in the last few years more and more options have started to pop up, and some of them are even quite affordable.

In addition to knowing where to find wide calf boots, one thing that will make your shopping for them easier is knowing your calf measurement. Just like any other measurement for clothing your calf measurement is important because wide calf boots come in all sorts of measurements.

But lets get to what you really came for, the best places to find wide calf boots.

1. Torrid

Torrid offers a selection of both practical to the not so practical. From stylish to edgy. No matter which boots you find at Torrid they will always be what is on trend. Here are a couple of my favorite that are currently available.

Available in sizes 6 to 13. Half sizes available. Originally $79.90 now $47.94

2. Lovesick

At the moment I am writing this, they don’t actually have any tall boots that cover your calf. But let’s be honest, sometimes you need ankle boots that fit a wide ankle. And they have that. Here is a pair I really think is so cute.

Lovesick wide ankle bootsMulti Buckle Flat Booties (Wide Width)

Available in sizes 7 to 12. Was $58.90 Now on sale for $47.12

3. Simply Be

Just like clothing sizes, our calves come in different sizes too. So some people need more than the average wide calf boot has to offer. Simply Be is one of the few places that accommodates that. With shoe widths from D to EEEEE, they also offer calf sizes from standard to super curvy. Just grab your tape measure to see which one fits you best. Here are a couple of my favorites.

7. Lane Bryant

If you want to actually be able to try on the boots, Lane Bryant is probably the best bet for most people. While some of the other companies might be near you, almost everyone has a Lane Bryant near by. Here re some of my favorites from them.

Goth And Grunge Goes Soft And Romantic For Fall

Plus size ootd soft goth and grunge mix look.

If you always been that girl who always wanted to try a goth or grunge look but were afraid it would just be too much for you, then your time has arrived. The 90’s are back in a big way. Soft goth and soft grunge are two of the biggest looks for fall. It’s still goth and/or grunge, but its a little softer, a little more feminine, and a lot more romantic looking.

Take all those elements you associate with either of those looks and add some lace, some soft edges, and add in a sprinkling of color.

For me one of the great things about fashion, and makeup, is there are no real rules. Why not take small elements of those things you like and incorporate it into your everyday wear. Or mix grunge with goth. The only limits you really have are your own imagination and of course any work week rules that may be enforced at your job. Don’t be afraid to experiment.

As we move through the next couple of months, maybe longer, I think you will find me playing around with mixing in a lot of these pieces in my wardrobe. I really loved a lot of edgier pieces when I was younger, and I really am happy to have some of it back.

Just a quick reminder my typical size at most true plus size brands is 20W or 2X. And my bra size is 40DDD verging on a G cup depending on the brand.

plus size Soft grunge and soft goth

You can’t really tell from the picture, but I am wearing the Torrid Multi Zip Jeggings in the Dark Wash. Since the top covers the zipper detail, here is what they look like.
In most Torrid Jeggings I can size down to an 18W, but these seem to fit more true to size and I need the 20W. However I feel like these fit me the best out of any jeans I currently own. Most of the Jeggings line fits me well, but I like the way these actually taper close to my ankle. If you have a really thick ankle, this may not be a good fit for you.

In addition to the great fit I love the zipper detail. It gives them a bit of an edgier look than your average jean. Sometimes it’s just about those little details.

Plus size outfit from Lovesick, Torrid, and the Avenue.

The plaid top I have paired with it was purchased last year from Torrid. They don’t seem to have any of them this year or anything similar. But I did find this Plaid Lace Up Back Bustier which could go towards creating the same sort of look.
Over that I have on the Hacci Open Cardigan from Lovesick. Mine is in a rich berry color, but they sold out of that color almost immediately. But I have linked you to the black one.

Mixing styles for fall to acheive a soft grunge and soft punk look.

My shoes are a pair of Cloud Walkers from the Avenue that I bought two or three years ago. However if you would like something that gives you a similar look you could try the Easy Street Women’s Arlene Boot. It’s available in multiple colors and it comes in wide width.

You can easily accessorize with a choker or half gloves. Play around with what makes you happy.

So tell me in the comments below if you plan on incorporating these types of pieces into your wardrobe or do you feel intimidated by these styles? Were you around in the 90’s when these styles were at their height before? And if so did you try them then?

Subscription Service Review – So Choix

2016-10-08-04-53-03

As we move into the middle of October I catch myself thinking over and over about how fast the year has flown by. The older we get the quicker the years move by. And before you know it the year will be over. So something I wanted to do before the year ends is start sharing with you all some reviews/an overall look at the subscription services and products that I have really enjoyed over the last year. And who I think they may make a good gift for. Yes, I am already thinking of Christmas gifts.

Many of you have probably not heard of a company called So Choix. First your probably wondering how to say the name. According to their website Choix is pronounced “SHWAA”, and is French for “choice”. This kind of plays into how their service works, but we will get into that in a moment.

So Choix is a beauty subscription service with essentially an online store attached. So anything you try you can also buy. Of course you can also buy things from them without trying, but I wanted to focus on the subscription service today. Now this service works different than most beauty subscriptions. With So Choix nothing is a surprise, unless you want it to be.

The company was started with people in mind who aren’t able to get into their local beauty counter to try samples for one reason or another. Maybe you live too far away, your too busy, or you just don’t like the experience of going to beauty stores. Or if you are like me, some of the things you want to try are just not available at your local stores or they are items you would not normally be allowed to sample. Of course if you are somewhere like Sephora they will always let you swatch just about anything, but swatching something is not the same as really trying it. And don’t even get me started on Sephora’s lighting. I can’t tell you how many times I put something on my skin and thought it was a great match there, but as soon as I got the item home and looked at it in sunlight or normal lighting it looks like it belongs on someone else.

So if you don’t buy in store what do you do? You buy online of course. But that leaves you unable to try anything before buying. So with all those issues in mind So Choix created their subscription service. They allow you to pick the samples you want to try, and each month you pick five high end products to receive. You are allowed up to two of the same item if you feel you need more of something. You are also of course allowed as many options as they have in color options. They do have things in just about every category you would find in Sephora.

If you choose to pay monthly for your subscription it cost $15 a month, but you can get it for as little as $12.50 a month if you pay for the full year in advance. You can also buy extra samples if you wish, but that is not part of the subscription.

When you get your items in the mail they come in a bubble mailer (this is a recent change, but a welcome one). Inside the bubble mailer you will find a box that looks like this:

So Choix Subscription ServiceIts roughly the size of a jewelry box you get when you make a purchase at a department store. And then when you open it, this is what you see:

Beauty subscription service So ChoixYou have all your samples inside, there is also usually cotton tucked in there during the shipping. I took this out before I snapped this picture. And in the lid is a list of all of the things you received. Your samples are all labeled as well.

In this particular order I received a Gucci Nail Bold High Gloss Lacquer, a sample of Guerlain Meterites Pearl Base, Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer Concealer, and two shades of Smashbox BB Cream.

When you choose your items they go into a Queue. You can organize them how you like, or if you prefer to get surprises I believe you can set it up so that they send you random items instead. Each sample you get is a generous portion that should be enough to get at least two to three uses out of, and in some rare cases more.

For every month that you get your subscription and for every purchase you earn points. Those points can be used for coupons to save on future purchases or redeemed for premium sample sizes of products.

I have found this subscription most useful for several things. First, as I said earlier those items you typically can’t just walk into Sephora or any other makeup counter to get a sample of. So things like nail polish, lip liners, and solid powders. Second has been items I can’t get locally and am considering purchasing online. Its nice to be able to decide if the product works for me and what color I should use. And last but not least, it makes a great way to get travel friendly sizes of products I already use. I don’t like taking my high end products with me on trips, especially on a plane. These are perfect sizes to throw in a carry on bag.

They have been sending disposable applicators, which I never use. But I believe they are switching to those being upon request. I think that the majority of people have said that they have their own tools to use if they are at the level of buying high end products.

So who do I think that this would make a great gift for. I think anyone who is a makeup lover, anyone who likes to experiment with new makeup, and anyone who love beauty subscriptions and is looking for something different to try.

So let me know if you have tried So Choix, and did you enjoy it? What did you find the best use for the samples?

This OOTD Goes BOHO With Lovesick

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

BOHO or bohemian, whichever you prefer to call it, has been one of the hottest trends this summer and is continuing into the fall. So back when I took you Inside The Dressing Room at Lovesick with me this summer, I picked up a outfit that is perfect for this fall.

Plus Size Boho outfit of the dayI have on the Welt Pocket Flare Jeans. They do have a couple of sizes left in these. If you want them, get them while you can because they are marked down on clearance for $14.98. And their Lovenotes sale is going on right now, so you could potentially get this for as little as $7.50. For those of you not aware, Lovenotes at Lovesick are just like Hautecash at Torrid.

Paired with the jeans I have on the Paisley Print Swing Tank Top. It is also on clearance for $14.98. And on top of that I have on the Fringe Trim Vest, also on clearance for $14.98.

Lovesick jeans, tank and vest paired with Avenue boots and Cato accessories

I also have on a pair of booties from the Avenue that I bought on Amazon. They are the Avenue Women’s Rina Wide Buckle Bootie. And the necklace and earing set I have on is from Cato’s Fashions. They are long sold out of it, but I found this Layered Faux Suede Charm Necklace that has the same sort of feel to it.

Plus Size outfit of the day featuring Lovesick, Cato Fashions, and Avenue

Let me know in the comments below if you have tied out Lovesick yet. And are you feeling the BOHO look? What look would you like to come back into style?

Read With Me – Pierced by the Sun by Laura Esquivel

51dtb6virwl__sy445_ql70_small

I was thinking I would try something new here on the blog. You see, I and the majority of my love to read. And about this time last year I started a ladies book club. We get together every two months and discuss a new book. Each time someone in the group takes a turn choosing the book and place where we meet.

We are all pretty busy and some of the members are pretty voracious readers, so we have a handful of guidelines. Books must be written within the last five years. Nothing with more than five hundred pages. And it can’t be a book you have read before.

Since everyone has different tastes in books we have been all over the map in genres. And because these are books none of us have read before we have no way of knowing if we will like them or not. Some have been flops and some have been great successes. But we always have great discussions and enjoy the time with other intelligent women. We try not to be rigid or uptight about things. If someone doesn’t finish the book its not a big deal, life happen.

So that leads me to what I thought I would do. I want to share with all of you what we are currently reading, and perhaps come back and give you some of our thoughts on it. Maybe even hears some of yours. I want to try it out a few times. If it goes well I will keep doing it, if not it may just fade out.

But lets get started. We are currently reading, like the title says, Pierced by the Sun by Laura Esquivel. You can follow the Amazon link to find out more info on the book or to purchase it. I do believe it was a free Prime First book a couple of months ago, so its also possible some of you already have this book. And I am sure almost everyone knows this already, but for anyone who doesn’t, from the Amazon link you can find it not only in paperback but also for audible, on kindle, mp3, and several other formats.

The next time we meet is mid to late November. So look for a post in early December discussing the book a bit and announcing what the next book will be.

I would love to hear from you all. So leave me comments here or on my social media and let me know if you like this being here on the blog, or if you would rather I skipped it. Also do you participate in any book groups?

Transitioning Your Wardrobe From Summer To Fall

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Society Plus Flash Sale on Cardigans. One day only for 10-6-16

You spend a lot of money on your wardrobe. Or maybe you’re struggling just to buy one or two new pieces of clothing a year. No matter what your budget, finding a way to make your clothing wearable for a longer period of time is something we all want. If you saw my latest Inside The Dressing Room post a few weeks ago, you have already seen the inspiration and basics of this piece. But I still wanted to share this look fully styled.

First lets talk about the dress that we are transitioning into a fall look.

Lace Sundress from Torrid

This is Torrid’s Floral Lace Sundress. Chance’s are some of you may already have this dress or one similar. Or if you are interested in it they still have limited sizes available. You can actually purchase it both on Torrid’s Website or on Amazon.

This is pretty much how I wore it this summer. By itself, just paired with some shoes like these LifeStride Women’s Persephone Wedge Sandal that I am wearing. Sorry you can’t see them super well, my camera got moved a bit while I was taking the pictures.

To transition this dress into fall we just need to add some things.

Plus Size Sundress and Cardigan paired with booties

I paired with it the Plus Size Open Front Cardigan in Cocoa that I picked up in Forever 21. I also changed from the shoes to boots. These are the Avenue’s Rina Wide Buckle Bootie in Tan. You can purchase them on the Avenue’s Website or on Avenue Women’s Rina Wide Buckle Bootie. (Just a note for anyone looking to save some money. I personally bought my boots on Amazon. I was buying the boots only. The actual price is a couple of dollars more on Amazon, but shipping is free. On the Avenue’s website you have to spend $150 to get free shipping, so when I added it up it was cheaper to buy on Amazon.)

Now to add the finishing touch.

Transitioning a Torrid sundress to fall with a pair of boots, a sweater, and a purse

I added one of my favorite Jessica Simpson Bags to finish the look. The bag I have is from a couple of years ago, so I don’t think it’s still available. However I think the Jessica Simpson Neilson Fringe Trim Hobo Bag would be equally amazing with this look.

Thanks to the colors in this dress it could be changed up in many ways, not just for fall, but spring as well. You could easily change the cardigan to a bright coral and a put on a pair of closed toed pumps to be spring ready.

I would love to see how some of you have transitioned your outfits for fall. You can post them in the comments here or tag me on social media. If you tag me on Instagram I may even repost some of your beautiful pictures.

Where To Shop Plus Size Halloween Costumes In 2016

197779

Its that time of year again where there is starting to be a chill in the air and everything has turned pumpkin. And yes it is already October, unbelievable am I right? If you are a Halloween fiend you probably already have your costume all planned out or purchase. But I know there are a lot of people who love it but just don’t plan ahead like that. Where my procrastinators at? Don’t worry, I am a chronic procrastinator when it comes to most things, so I have your back.

Today I wanted to share some places you can find plus size costumes and accessories, and some of my favorite option that they have. I will try and share any coupon codes available for the individual stores. I will link to both the websites main pages and the recommended product pages.

3. Amazon’s Halloween Shop

Amazon’s Halloween shop has a pretty decent selection of plus size costumes that come from a lot of different stores and brands. The link above should take you directly to the plus size listings. There are no coupon codes that I am aware of, but here are some f my favorite costumes available.

Leg Avenue Disney Plus-Size 2Pc. Classic Snow White Costume Dress and Bow Head Piece

California Costumes Women’s Plus Size Olympic Goddess Costume

Elope Womens Storybook Waldo Where’S Wenda Kit Theme Party Halloween Costume

NonEcho Women’s Halloween Novelty Costume Miss Edward Scissorhands Adult

Each of these places also have way more options from so many more stores. Of course when it comes to costumes sizing can be difficult. Sizes don’t always accommodate everyone either. If you find this is the case for you or you find it hard to bite the bullet on paying for something you will only wear once, you might consider going a different direction. No, I am not going to suggest you sew your costume. Something I have done many times is invest in items, real clothing items that is, that I love but you can work into a costume.

Just to give you a quick idea, I really put very little thought in this, just to show you how easy it can be. Say you wanted to be a ballerina. Try these:

Society Plus 5 Layer Tutu

A Five Layer Tutu from Society Plus like this one in blush is perfect. The Champagne or the White color would work equally as well.

Pair it with this WearAll Women’s Plus Size Plain Stretch Bodysuit in white.

Just add a tiara and a pair of ballet slippers and your all done. Want to make it a more intricate, or soft colors aren’t your thing. Turn it into either the black or white swan from swan lake with just a few different accessories. Your imagination is the limit and you don’t have to be tied to the “costume” section just because you can’t sew.

Let me know in comments below what you plan to be this Halloween or if you want to suggest additional places for ladies to shop. I will try and update this over the next couple of weeks as I find new places to buy costumes.
