Its that time of year here in Kentucky where Mother Nature can’t decide if we should wear shorts or a fur coat. And as the temperature changes, for me and many people like me with fibromyalgia, it means we hurt. And its hard to get motivated to do much when your hurting. So please forgive my absence over the last few weeks, but between just the business of life and dealing with pain I have not been motivated to blog much. But because this is normal thing for me in the fall it also seems to be a bit of a normal thing for me to mourn the loss of summer.
So to say goodbye to what has been a really beautiful summer filled with friends and laughter, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite dresses I wore this year. It is from a brand I had not tried before this. One of my best friends threw a minion luau themed birthday party for another friends kid. So I decided to go more with the luau theme in my dress, as most of the adults did.
My dress was the Tropical Print Dress from Voodoo Vixen.
And here it is on me – Excuse the awkward angle. I am still trying to get the hang of using the selfie stick.
The dress is no longer available on Voodoo Vixens website, but you can do as I did and purchase it from Simply Be. The only sizing that Simply has listed for Voodoo Vixen is size equivalents. For me this worked out as it says their 3XL is equal to a 20. I do typically wear a 20 in most plus size brands. The 3XL fit me quite well, but there was enough give in the fabric I think a small 22 could have fit it. So if you prefer the assistance of a size chart before buying this one or any of the other Voodoo Vixen dresses, you can find it here on Voodoo Vixens Website.
I was very happy with both the fit and the quality of the dress. I did get quite a few compliments from random people, which I always think of as a good thing, unless its creepy. On Simply Be’s site, it seems to be available in a size L to a 4XL, with the equivalent being 8 to a 22. If I am not mistaken I read somewhere the plus sizes are a new thing for this company. Not sure how new, but hopefully over time they will expand their size range in the plus sizes.
I was also really happy with how my makeup turned out that day.
If you follow me on twitter or happen to be friends with me on my private Facebook account then you will have already have seen the pictures of the makeup. I was really inspired by a couple of pictures I saw on Pinterest, and I just tweaked it to fit my own color scheme and ability level with makeup. You can see the pictures that inspired me here and here.
If you are interested in doing a similar eyeshadow look, All colors were from ColourPop except the orange, and it was from NYX.
As usual, I want to hear from all of you. Have you tried Voodoo Vixen before? What was your verdict? What about makeup. Have you ever tried a look you saw on Pinterest?
