Why Don’t They Make That In My Size?!!!

A constant for me, when walking through a department store, is I always see these cute clothes in the misses and juniors section. My first thought is always, “Why don’t they make that in my size. Even though things are starting to change, there are still lots of designers that haven’t got with the program yet. I am sure each of us have a list of dream designers we want to offer plus size apparel. I thought I would share a few of my top choices.

Betsy Johnson

Designer Betsy Johnson

Designer Betsy Johnson

My number one choice would have to be Betsy Johnson. I love her youthful whimsy and frilly feminine looks with a touch of edge. Known for her celebration of the exuberant, the embellished and the over the top, Betsey has been rocking the fashion industry with her unique and original designs since the 1960’s. That is about 50 years in the fashion design industry. Don’t you think for such a forward thinking designer, its time to get with the times and offer people of all sizes your fashions?

Here are some of my favorite pieces Betsy Johnson is offering:

Andrea Lieberman

Designer Andrea Lieberman

Designer Andrea Lieberman

The fashion designer behind A.L.C. She is known for her contemporary designs. Andrea Lieberman takes all of your closet essentials to the next level. I love all those basic pieces that have little details that make them spectacular standouts in your wardrobe. Its time to take your designs to the next level, and start offering to us curvy ladies.

Here are a few od my favorite pieces from the A.L.C. line:

Tracy Reese

Tracy Reese has two different lines, the eponymous line and plenty by Tracy Reese. Both lines are very different from each other, but the one thing they have in common is they are ultra feminine. Before starting her own lines she had worked with other designers like Perry Ellis. I love her use of color and print. And since most of her designs already lend themselves to the shape of a curvy woman, why isn’t she offering plus sizes?

Here are some of my favorite items she is currently offering:

Maybe if enough of us speak up and let these designers  know we want their designs in our sizes they will finally start listening. I want to know what you think about my favorite designers. Who is on the top of your list?

The Plus Size Brands That You May Not Have Heard Of, But Should Have

In the online plus size community it seems like we constantly hear about the same brands over and over again, but there is so much more out there. I wanted to share with you some of my favorite brands that I never hear about, or at least rarely, and some of my favorite things they offer.

Love Your Peaches

Do you dream of the days you can afford custom made clothing where you pick your own style and fabric. Then that day has arrived. Love Your Peaches does just this. Owner Janelle Lowe started the company based on the need she saw. She offers all types of clothing including a large selection of bikinis, and everything is made to order. And best of all, she uses real plus size women, of all shapes, to model her wears. With regular priced items starting at just $31.00 you can have that dream wardrobe. Here are a couple of things I have had my eye on. Click on the pictures to be taken to the items page.

Dream of having that cute retro looking dress or skirt, but they never fit you right? Your always thinking if they would just make these to fit my shape. Well that is exactly what eShakti does. They have a large selection of clothing. You can either buy from their size chart, or for a small fee extra they will make the item to your measurement specifications. Tailored clothing at a very reasonable price. Regular priced items start at $39.95. Sizes range from size 0 in misses and go to 36W. Best of all everything is available in all sizes. Here is a tip, first time buyers get free shipping and if you register before ordering they will send you a $25 gift certificate to use on your order. Here are some of my favorites.

Pinup Girl Clothing

Also specializing in retro style clothing. Pinup Girl Clothing offers many of the same styles in their plus size line as what is in their straight size line. They often use luxurious fabrics, but their designs are always traditional styles from the 40’s and 50’s. Yet another company that uses real plus size women to model. With prices starting at just $38.00 anyone can afford to add a piece to their wardrobe. Here are some of the pieces that I love.

Zulily On The Brain

I am totally obsessed with Zulily. In case you aren’t familiar with Zulily, here is how they work. In their words

We strike deals with top brands you already adore, and we introduce you to new brands you might not find anywhere else. You get a hand-picked selection of high-quality goods.

One day, you’ll find an adorable dress for your little girl. The next day, that dress will be gone, but you’ll spot the perfect new yoga pants for yourself. Then you’ll notice a baby sling or a diaper bag that would make a fabulous shower gift. Finding out what’s new each day is part of the fun.

But let me break it down for you more. Zulily curates collections that are put up on flash sales that last 3 days. New sales are added daily at 9 a.m. EST. Each item is sold at a steep discount, some items as much as 70% off the normal retail. They have many new collections each day. They are then put into one of three different categories Home, Kids, and Women & Maternity. Sometimes a collection will be items that are themed, and other times a collection will be all from one brand.

Within the Women & Maternity category there is always at least one Plus Size collection, but most days there are three to four. Now, I know you might be thinking they probably won’t have anything you like, but you would be wrong. They have had some of the most coveted Plus Size brands on the market. Brands that have been featured have included Kiyonna, SWAK, Sorella Swim, and many more.

If you go and check them out one day and don’t see anything you like, don’t give up. Check back daily to look for new fashions. And don’t forget to look at the shoes, jewelry, and home goods while you are there. And if this hasn’t been enough to convince you, here are some of my favorite items from today.

Of Course I Am Obsessing Over My Blog!

I have been working hard to get my blog up and going, so it only seems natural that I am obsessing over it. Even more than that, I am obsessing over my fab logo. It was made by one of my besties Jennifer Noran. She is the brilliant artistic mind behind JennyKat Productions. I think she did an amazing job on my logo. And in case you didn’t get the connection that’s me all animated and everything on the logo.

She isn’t just a graphic artist, she does all sorts of art. If you want to check out her art you can find her at JennyKat Productions. And don’t forget to follow her on Make sure to tell her I sent you.

Spring trends I love!

Each season I see one or two trends that I love, but this spring/summer is full of things I am stuck on. Once warm weather hits I practically live in dresses. So I thought I would share a couple of my favorites in each trend. And I am hoping that at least one or two of these items end up in my closet.

Bright Bold Colors

I am all about color. I have never been one to have a closet full of neutrals. So the fact that this spring and summers fashions are filled with bright bold colors makes me so happy.

The Avenue’s Abstract Stripe Maxi Dress

I love this abstract print and the addition of the bold colors. You can find it at the Avenue in sizes 14W – 32W.

Simply Be’s Rippled Textured T Shirt Dress

In one of my favorite colors, I absolutely love this t shirt dress. The design is simplistic enough to let the color be the statement. You can find it at Simply Be in sizes 8 to 28.

Soft Muted Colors

On the almost opposite end of the spectrum this spring is bringing soft muted colors as one of the trends.  While this isn’t my usual taste I have seen some absolutely gorgeous items that I would love to give a try. Unfortunately there isn’t as many choices in plus sizes as there are in misses, but the few choices we do have lovely.

Mod Cloth's White Haute Cocoa Dress

Mod Cloth’s White Haute Cocoa Dress

I can’t help but love this ultra feminine dress. It makes me dream of days with the girls having tea at our favorite tea house. You can find it at Mod Cloth. It is currently available in sizes 2X – 4X.

Forever 21's Romantic Lace-Trimmed Dress

Forever 21’s Romantic Lace-Trimmed Dress

Another super feminine dress, and this one won’t break the bank. I love the lace ruffle at the hem. Sometimes it just the small details that make an item. You can find it at Forever 21 in sizes XL – 3X.

Black & White Contrast

It has been in style for the last couple of years. And in my opinion the selection and print choices are just getting better and better. I have to add at least one more piece to my wardrobe.

City Chic's Lace-Up Stripe Sleeveless Dress

City Chic’s Lace-Up Stripe Sleeveless Dress

This is probably one of the most unique pieces I have seen in a black and white print. I love the solid at the waist, and the way its made to look like it almost fades into the stripes. You can find this City Chic dress at Nordstrom in sizes 14W – 24W

So what do you think of my picks for spring and summer’s trends? Did I miss your favorite? I want to hear from you.

The Sexiest of Lingerie

From time to time while working on an article for Pretty Pear Bride companies will send me clothing of various types to use in a photo shoot. This past fall I had the privelage of doing an article about honeymoons, and I was sent several items from Hips & Curves to use. After, the model took some home and I kept some to review. One of the pieces I kept was the Halter Babydoll with Tie Cups in black.

Now I wear a DDD or E cup bra (depending on brand and style), and like a lot of women with larger breasts I don’t feel like my chest is supported without underwire. But my honeymoon was coming up and I figured why not give it a try, I mean it was pretty and sexy looking. I have to say I was so pleasantly surprised, the stretch band under the bust actually held my breast up and in place. My husband loved it. It was a huge success. And it was also surprisingly comfortable.

I have been a customer of Hips & Curves for quite some time. I had not ever tried any of their pieces like this before though. This has definitely encouraged me to try some of the other pieces I wouldn’t normally wear.

Enjoy this blog? Please spread the word :)
